Hi again! My apologies for all the posts, this is fun!
Iām torn again between using Molly or Eliza. Both are names I would use even if they werenāt honors, as I like the fact that they are spunky and sweet, but also timeless and beautiful. When I found Molly and got excited, I thought Iād be able to let Eliza go, but that is not the case. I keep thinking about it! I have a few questions. Please give me your honest opinions on these names. As always, you will not offend me!
**Questions:
1. Which name would you choose and why?
** 2. Which one do you feel is a better fit with some of my other favorites (i.e. Audrey and Sunday)? 3. How do you feel about having multiple honor names within a subset? (i.e. Molly for my mom and Eliza for my late maternal grandmother?) Iām not sure how I feel about the idea yet. I love both names so much that it is an option. I would also be just as happy choosing one and using the other as a middle name. (i.e. Eliza Margot or Josie Elizabethāthis one is an honor for three grandparents.)
**Any other suggestions for sister names that go well with Eliza or Molly? **Some I like are:
Edited to add: Lyla
Lucy
Violet
Nora (unusable because my best friend used a similar name, and put lots of thought into her childrenās names. I want to be respectful of that, and stay away from the name. )
Madeline (not sure if I can use this, but LOVE the name!)
Eleanor (Love, but I would intuitively shorten it to Nora instead of Ellie.**
Any and all feedback that you can can offer would be greatly appreciated!
Oh thatās a hard one, both sound so good together I canāt tear them apart. You said that both names will be used if they werenāt honours and so I think you should use it anyways as it is your choice. Other names that go well with [name_f]Molly[/name_f] and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]:
[name_f]Alayna[/name_f] or [name_f]Alaina[/name_f]
[name_f]Lula[/name_f]
[name_f]Laila[/name_f]
[name_f]Nola[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Belle[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Aleah[/name_f]
[name_f]Verity[/name_f]
[name_f]Pippa[/name_f]
@JessicaDougall Thank you so much!! I really love how they look and sound together! Iām not willing to give one up quite yet because I love how they compliment each other. Of your suggestions, my favorites are:
[name_f]Laila[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f] +
[name_f]Lula[/name_f]
I would definitely go with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]. [name_f]Molly[/name_f] is lovely, but it feels a little less substantial, even ācutesyā - donāt get me wrong, I like it and it might feature on my list if it wasnāt a variant of my own name, but it just doesnāt have the same spunky elegance as [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]. Personally, when I think [name_f]Molly[/name_f] I picture a very specific cottagecore aesthetic; npthing wrong with that but [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] feels more like a ālittle black dressā name that could suit anyone. (Also whilst the drugs thing isnāt a deal breaker woth [name_f]Molly[/name_f], my friend [name_f]Molly[/name_f] does get some occasional teasing and thatās not a problem with Eliza).
I think your style is quite cohesive - Iād be tempted to say [name_f]Molly[/name_f] goes better with [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] (both fun) and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] goes better with [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] (both retro classy) but either works.
I think two honors would be lovely, but only as long as you love both names; that takes priority!
Hm⦠how about [name_f]Opal[/name_f], [name_u]Fern[/name_u], [name_f]Edie[/name_f], [name_f]Nina[/name_f], [name_f]Nell[/name_f], [name_f]Sadie[/name_f], [name_f]Cara[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_u]Ivy[/name_u] or [name_f]Flora[/name_f]?
I would go with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] because of what you said about not being able to let go of it. It feels beautiful, full and complete. I love the three syllable short sweet name.
@Mary_Rose Thank you so much! I agree that [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] has a little black dress quality to it but it also has so much spunk! I absolutely love it. The reference you mentioned with your friend is one of the concerns I have about using [name_f]Molly[/name_f]. As much as I love that one, Iām thinking it may not be the blend of strength, spunk, and sweetness that Iām looking for in the way that [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is. This is a very difficult decision! Of your suggestions, I really like:
[name_f]Nina[/name_f]
[name_f]Edie[/name_f]
[name_u]Ivy[/name_u]
I would choose [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]. Honestly I love [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] sheās spunky, upbeat, has a lovely retro feel and has an attractive sound. [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] feels nostalgic has this summery fun loving feel.
I think [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] works the best with [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] (the name I really champion for you) as they both have a quirky āhipsterā feel to them. [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] + [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] is such a charming pair. I do love [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] but I feel [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] lacks the laid back feel of both [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Molly[/name_f] so doesnāt feel that cohesive with either. But Iām more inclined to prefer [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] + [name_f]Audrey[/name_f].
I actually think itās standard to have multiple honours in one sibling set. [name_f]My[/name_f] partnerās nieces are 0livia R0se and G@brielle Am@nda both girls middle names are honours I do not find that strange at all. [name_f]My[/name_f] daughter is [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f] all three names are honours I do not find it strange. I think having names that you love that are also honours is such a bonus honestly youāre lucky! Looking at the names discussed here [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Margot[/name_f] is incredibly sophisticated but I do have a major soft spot for [name_u]Josie[/name_u]
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] sheās perfect.
Some other ideas that I think work well with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] + Mollyā¦
@isabellesmama22 Thank you so much! I am definitely leaning toward [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] right now because thereās just something so special about it. I feel like [name_f]Molly[/name_f] snuck in, and itās beautiful, I really love it. But itās not doing what [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is doing for me right now. [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is also special because I shared my middle name (Elizabeth) with my grandma. I like [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] for a future daughter because it honors my grandma, but still gives her something that is all her own.
@tori101 Thank you so much! I really love [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and am gravitating back toward it from [name_f]Molly[/name_f]. Your childrenās names are so beautiful, I love them! I do feel incredibly lucky to have so many family members that I want to honor. The ones I discuss most often here are not the only people Iād like to honor in this way. Theyāre the hardest because there are so many options that I love. The name I choose to honor my grandma will be the one that gets the most feedback from family members, so I want to make sure I have some that I love beforehand.
Thank you for how much you love [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] for me! It is my favorite with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] too. And itās one of the reasons Iām hesitant about [name_f]Molly[/name_f], because I donāt think it works as well with [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] as [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] does. I like that [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] is a little mismatched, and Iām not quite ready to give it up in favor of a more cohesive set. I also prefer [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] to [name_f]Molly[/name_f] with that set. To clarify my comments about multiple honor names within a subset , I plan to adopt with or without a partner in the future. Iām sorry if that came off awkwardly.
@Greyblue Thank you so much! I definitely agree that [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is the best fit in this case. You make a great point about having multiple honor names within a subset too! In my family, women have typically chosen not to go by their honor names (with the exception of an aunt, who has two honor names). Others have them as middle names. There are also men who have been named after their fathers, and use nicknames for differentiation. So I was curious about utilizing an honor name as a first name!
Of your suggestions with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], I love:
[name_u]June[/name_u]
[name_f]Nina[/name_f]
[name_f]Heidi[/name_f] (this one is growing on me!)
I would MUCH rather be named [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] than [name_f]Molly[/name_f] if that helps. Most of the Mollys Iāve met have been sweet dogs so nothing bad there, but with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], I would give myself other [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] nicknames which would make me happier (Bess, [name_f]Libby[/name_f], etc.)
@Elizabethann27 Thank you so much! I think I am definitely letting [name_f]Molly[/name_f] go. Thereās just something so special about [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]! [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] as a double name would also be great I think! But I also know [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] doesnāt need another name to be special. But [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] [name_f]Margot[/name_f] or Eliza-Kate [name_f]Margot[/name_f] is so clll to me! I donāt know what Iāll do in terms of using a double name or not, but Iām definitely eliminating [name_f]Molly[/name_f] and sticking with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f].
@Harvest-Endellion Thank you so much! There is absolutely nothing wrong with the name [name_f]Molly[/name_f]. I still love it, but itās just not for me.
@kathleen12345 Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! Thereās just something so special about [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]. I love that it works so well on every age.
I think you should go with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] just because that seems to be the name you are most drawn too.
However, I feel like I have to defend my own name a little lol. Sure Iāve met more dogs than people named [name_f]Molly[/name_f] but I always thought it was funny. I always got compliments on my name because most people hadnāt met someone named [name_f]Molly[/name_f] before. Also I have literally never had anyone bring up the drug to me. [name_f]My[/name_f] name has never felt too cutesy or childish, Iāve never felt the need to have a more āprofessionalā name or anything like that. Iāve worked at a big 4 accounting firm and it literally didnāt hinder me at all.
So just my two cents on the name, I think a lot of the time people put a lot of emphasis on names being only suitable for a certain age, but once itās on a person itās just their name.
All that being said, still go with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] because thats the name you love
