Conservative Unusual -- two diverse styles merging!

Help? My husband and I are having our first baby and we’ve been having the name debate since before we were even pregnant! His style is classic conservative (i.e. common, overused, top 100 names [name_f]IMO[/name_f]) and mine is classic eccentric. We rarely like any names on our respective lists, but tend to overlap in the conservative unusual – though it’s not a sure thing!

We don’t know the gender of our baby yet, but I think we need to get started so that we have a solid list!

What we overlap on so far:

Top —> Bottom is my favorite to least favorites. [name_m]Miles[/name_m] and [name_m]Simon[/name_m] are the only two that I would really consider because of popularity issues. I love [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], but it’s so overdone.

Top —> Bottom is my favorite to least favorites. None of them (with the exception of [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]) are super common and this list feels more ‘doable’ than the boy list? Then again, my gut feeling is that I’m having a boy so I might just be more protective over that list.

Any other suggestions for us? If it’s a lower name on the top 100 I might consider if, IF it’s not on the top 100 in our area ([name_u]Texas[/name_u]). We tend to have a very different set of names than the overall top 100.

Thanks in advance!!

I can totally sympathize, my husband and I are exactly the same! He thinks [name_u]Owen[/name_u] is a weird, unusual baby name - [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] is totally inconceivable, lol! We’re in the pre-pregnancy arguing about names phase - we both know that it will take waaaaaaay more than 9 months for us to agree on names, so we needed to get started!

FWIW, I like your girl names a lot. Maybe you’d like

Boys are definitely harder!
[name_u]Ellis[/name_u] (way less common than [name_u]Elias[/name_u], but an equally ‘normal’ name in my opinion!)
[name_m]Bennett[/name_m] (a far more interesting way of getting to [name_m]Ben[/name_m])
[name_m]Matthias[/name_m] (probably too weird for your husband, but nickname [name_m]Matt[/name_m] is totally normal!)

I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_m]Miles[/name_m]! It’s oddly popular where I live (2 in my daughter’s preschool class!). Plus, I can’t get my husband on board. :frowning:

I really like [name_m]Simon[/name_m] and [name_u]Elias[/name_u] ([name_m]Eli[/name_m]).

For girls, I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]. I have never met an [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] so it must just be popular where you are? [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is a popular nickname but you could always use [name_f]Nell[/name_f], [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] or [name_f]Nora[/name_f].

I also like [name_f]Delia[/name_f], [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] and [name_f]Blythe[/name_f].

If I were perfectly honest, [name_f]Holly[/name_f] and [name_f]Lila[/name_f] are a little boring and underwhelming to me, especially in looking at your overall taste. I think you have better, much more interesting names on your list.

I have a very different style, so I’m not sure if they all match well, but I tried
