[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! I’ve considered my English name for a long time, Because I will study abroad(English-speaking-area).
I’m Japane girl.My Name is Yukino. [name_u]Yuki[/name_u] means snow in English, so simply I consider my English name “[name_f]Snow[/name_f]”.
I have an another idea for English name. That is “Rondo”. That is one of the kind of musics.
There is a name”[name_f]Aria[/name_f]” for girls’, so I think Rondo is not so strange name.
So far, I have some questions.
Is Yukino’s pronounceation difficult?
[name_m]How[/name_m] do you think about name “[name_f]Snow[/name_f]”?
[name_m]How[/name_m] about “Rondo”?
thank you for reading! Please answer my questions!
I don’t think most English speakers will have a problem with Yukino, but they are likely to put emphasis on different syllables than you would have in Japanese.
[name_f]Snow[/name_f] is usually a family name, not a personal name, in English. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_u]Winter[/name_u]?
Rondo sounds like a boy’s name to me, or some sort of tile adhesive. [name_f]Aria[/name_f] works as a girl’s name because it ends in ‘a’, which is a common female name ending, and because people are familiar with the similar sounding but unrelated [name_f]Ariana[/name_f]. Rondo also sounds like a Japanese family name to me–here I’m thinking of [name_f]Marie[/name_f] Kondo. You could use [name_f]Rhonda[/name_f], which is a fairly common name.
[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! Good luck studying abroad, it’s a great experience getting to know a new culture so well!
Yukino is pretty easy to pronounce in English in my opinion, but we’ll probably have a strong accent when we say it so that could bother you. I’d likely pronounce it like “you+key+no” but with the ‘you’ being slow and ‘key+no’ being squished together like the word ‘keno’, until you corrected me with a better pronunciation which most people would likely still get partly wrong (and some people probably won’t care to even try, like older people). [name_u]Yuki[/name_u] is something some people will have even heard (I think they mention a superhero called [name_u]Yuki[/name_u] in the movie [name_f]Juno[/name_f]?) and is super simple so it would be really easy if you wanted to go by that.
That said, if you do change I think both [name_f]Snow[/name_f] and Rondo would be very cute and unique names! I think [name_f]Snow[/name_f] is very acceptable, but it does bring to mind [name_f]Snow[/name_f] White as well as [name_m]Jon[/name_m] [name_f]Snow[/name_f]. I, personally, really like Rondo, but people will definitely think it’s really strange. Lots of people (including me) have strange names though, so if you’re okay with that I think it’s nice!
[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! [name_f]Snow[/name_f] isn’t usually used as a name in English speaking countries. There are some names that would be similar to [name_f]Snow[/name_f]. The name [name_f]Bianca[/name_f] means “white”, for example. I think [name_u]Yuki[/name_u] is definitely usable, and people will be able to pronounce it. Rondo sounds like a boys name in English. Most names ending in “a” here are girls names, and most names ending in “o” are boys names. There are exceptions but that is why [name_f]Aria[/name_f] is used as a girls name here and Rondo is not. Good luck with finding an English name!
Most people in an English-speaking area will be able to say ‘Yukino’, so you don’t need an English name.
But if you would like an English name, that’s also OK.
[name_f]Snow[/name_f] and Rondo are not usually English names, but you can use them as your name if you want to and it won’t cause a problem.
[name_f]Kiki[/name_f] is a nickname that will be easy to say in English and has some sounds from Yukino.
[name_u]Ronnie[/name_u] or [name_u]Ronny[/name_u] is also a name that is used by some girls as a nickname for [name_f]Veronica[/name_f]. [name_u]Ronny[/name_u] is also a nickname for boys.
Here are some more girl’s names in English that are related to music:
[name_f]Melody[/name_f]
[name_f]Viola[/name_f]
[name_f]Cadence[/name_f]
[name_u]Harmony[/name_u]
I know someone named [name_u]Yuki[/name_u], and no one in our area (a major city) has trouble with it. People in big cities and university towns are accustomed to international names. Of the options you listed, I think [name_f]Aria[/name_f] would be the best if you want to choose an English name.
[name_u]Yuki[/name_u] works well, but Yukino is easy to pronounce.
I think [name_f]Snow[/name_f] is very beautiful, but it is not a common English name. You could use it, though.
[name_f]Aria[/name_f] is beautiful, and something that people will definitely recognize (there is a popular TV show that had an [name_f]Aria[/name_f].)
[name_f]Melody[/name_f] is another nice music-related name!
I speak Japanese but I know plenty of people who don’t and they wouldn’t have a problem with the pronunciation of Yukino. It’s very straightforward.
The name [name_f]Snow[/name_f] is beautiful. If you’re unsure about it maybe look at a similar theme. Names like: [name_u]Winter[/name_u], [name_f]Noelle[/name_f], [name_f]Elsa[/name_f], [name_f]Holly[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Neve[/name_f], [name_f]Bianca[/name_f].
I definitely wouldn’t use Rondo. It’s very masculine sounding.
I agree that Yukino isn’t that hard to pronounce and [name_u]Yuki[/name_u] would work great too. I also think that [name_f]Aria[/name_f] is the best if you really want to use another name.
