Help! I really like the name [name]Maverick[/name], but wondered if it is too “out there”, also middles that go with it? He would be [name]Maverick[/name] _____ [name]Hurst[/name]. Thanks for your help!
do you have any family names that you are interested in using?
Oh my goodness, no. I really like the name [name]Maverick[/name].
One thing I will point out though: My s-i-l wanted to name her son [name]Maverick[/name] and my in-laws immediately associated it with politics and the last presidential election, so she didn’t use it.
I hope most people can overlook that, cause [name]Maverick[/name] is a really nice name.
No-we are considering more unique choices, and are bored with all of the common names (no offense to anyone who likes these!) ;O)
I love [name]Maverick[/name]! I would definitely use it.
I actually live in suburban Illinois and work in Iowa, and we’ve had two Mavericks come into the store where I work. So it’s uncommon, but not so out there it’s unheard of.
I have a new baby cousin named [name]Maverick[/name] [name]Malachi[/name].

Sorry I wasn’t thinking in replacement of… was thinking of middle names!!! I think [name]Maverick[/name] will work fine as a first name.
My s-i-l thought [name]Jethro[/name] sounded good with [name]Maverick[/name].
[name]Maverick[/name] [name]Jethro[/name]. Sounds good with our last name, but I’m sure it doesn’t work for everyone.
Well, I would definitely assume you were fans of [name]John[/name] McCain (if you’re living in the US). Besides that, I don’t really consider ‘maverick’ a name. I wouldn’t do it…
I love [name]Maverick[/name]! So cute, original and fun. I know of a young [name]Maverick[/name] with a brother named [name]Memphis[/name]. Pretty cool match IMHO. I think you should pair it with something equally cool and uncommon. [name]How[/name] about:
[name]Maverick[/name] [name]Blaise[/name]
[name]Maverick[/name] [name]Dexter[/name]
[name]Maverick[/name] [name]August[/name]
[name]Maverick[/name] [name]Hugo[/name]
[name]Maverick[/name] [name]Kai[/name]
[name]Maverick[/name] [name]Lennon[/name]
[name]Maverick[/name] [name]Oscar[/name]
[name]Maverick[/name] [name]Theo[/name]
[name]Maverick[/name] [name]Cyrus[/name]
[name]Maverick[/name] [name]Leon[/name]
[name]Maverick[/name] [name]Linus[/name]
[name]Maverick[/name] [name]Otto[/name]
[name]Maverick[/name] [name]Anton[/name]
[name]Maverick[/name] [name]Lyle[/name]
[name]Maverick[/name] [name]Foster[/name]
[name]Maverick[/name] [name]Felix[/name]
[name]Hope[/name] that helps!
I have two strong associations with this name:
- [name]Tom[/name] [name]Cruise[/name] and Top [name]Gun[/name]
- [name]John[/name] McCain and the previous presidential elections.
I’m not saying they are terrible associations, they sure could be worse. I have heard [name]Maverick[/name] used before so its not anything new. Have you considered a similar sounding name like [name]Marek[/name]?
Thanks! These are all good options… Funny you mentioned [name]Memphis[/name], since that is my husbands other favorite name!
I just think of [name]Tom[/name] [name]Cruise[/name] in Top [name]Gun[/name], which is probably the last time he was actually cool, so that doesn’t bother me. It isn’t terrible, but it would be too over the top for me personally.
And [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Palin[/name]. I can understand the name’s likeability, but it really is heavily identified with McCain and [name]Palin[/name] and their brand of Republican politics…and no one’s mentioned the old TV Western! So you need to embrace those associations because I guarantee people will make them for a long long time, just as if you named your baby [name]Kennedy[/name].
I didn’t think of the [name]John[/name] McCain thing at all. [name]Don[/name]'t let that ruin it for you, it’ll be forgotten in time. I DID think of [name]Tom[/name] [name]Cruise[/name] though, the movie Top [name]Gun[/name] is a good association, very cool character. I think you should use it, good unique name with a ton of character.
All I can think of is [name]John[/name] McCain and [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Palin[/name], and I think many Americans would (as this thread is demonstrating). I also wonder about future job applications and interviews. I agree with you that it’s spunky and cute, but I have a hard time picturing a 30-year-old [name]Maverick[/name].
[name]Love[/name] it. I never would have thought of that but it is really a nice name. And in the end who really cares about politics and any other reference? People tend to think what they want to think. It will be your child’s name and he will come to own it for himself. If this is your favorite name I say go for it!!!
I think about:
- Team mascots
- [name]John[/name] McCain and [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Palin[/name]
- Cows
I think your son should have a name all his own, not one that is burdened by associations. Also, give your son a chance to be a maverick on his own. He doesn’t need his name to announce it for him.
As long as you say it with a little [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Palin[/name]/[name]Tina[/name] [name]Fey[/name] wink, “[name]Maverick[/name]…;)”
The name screams [name]John[/name] McCain/[name]Sarah[/name] [name]Palin[/name] to me, so I would say it’s a no go
