Constantine

[name_m]Constantino[/name_m] is a family name - my husband’s uncle and grandfather. We are considering using the slightly-less-daunting [name_u]Constantine[/name_u] as a middle name for [name_m]Solomon[/name_m]. But I have to say, [name_u]Constantine[/name_u] is growing on us as a first name. My concern would be - what do we call this kid day-to-day? I can’t really think of good nicknames. [name_u]Connie[/name_u] - ick. [name_m]Stan[/name_m]? Um. DH’s uncle goes by [name_m]Tino[/name_m]. Again, no thanks. Anyone have thoughts on [name_u]Constantine[/name_u] nicknames? Or do you think we should stick to it as a middle name?

I really love [name_u]Constantine[/name_u] as a first name. [name_f]Constance[/name_f] is the first nickname that popped in my head and [name_u]Gus[/name_u] is actually another nickname for [name_u]Constantine[/name_u]. [name_m]Costa[/name_m] could work as well and I’ve seen [name_u]Dean[/name_u] used as a nickname for [name_u]Constantine[/name_u]. [name_u]Conner[/name_u] or [name_u]Con[/name_u] could work as well as nicknames.

I like [name_u]Constantine[/name_u] a lot-- it’s usable as a fn! [name_u]Con[/name_u] or [name_m]Tino[/name_m] are fine nns.

I really like [name_u]Constantine[/name_u]… I have a positive connotation for it, I knew a cute guy with that last name, lol. I like the suggestion for either [name_u]Con[/name_u] or [name_m]Tino[/name_m] for nns.

I think it is a strong, masculine name and like it in the first name spot. Nicknames, hmm…[name_f]Coe[/name_f], [name_u]Dean[/name_u] (rhymes with [name_f]Tine[/name_f]), Coti. ?

As I already said in some threads, [name_u]Constantine[/name_u] is a feminine spelling (like [name_u]Valentine[/name_u], [name_f]Marine[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], or Augustinefor example). For European/Latin names, the -ine ending is for girls and -in for boys. I would definitely think a [name_u]Constantine[/name_u] is a girl and a boy could get teased in Europe.

Otherwise [name_m]Constantin[/name_m] is fine. I don’t like it but I don’t hate it. I don’t see any problem. If you like it, go for it.

[name_m]Don[/name_m]'t love [name_u]Constantine[/name_u] as a first name; it just makes me think of the emperor. It is a nice middle though, with the family connection. I like [name_m]Tino[/name_m] as a nn, also [name_m]Costa[/name_m].
