Controversial Baby Name

I wish we had never brought up our baby name choice for our daughter who is due in [name]September[/name]. (We are adopting.) The [name]LOVE[/name] and HATE for the name in the extended family was shocking. Who knew the name would bring up such strong feelings for everyone involved. Your thoughts?

[name]Claribelle[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name]

Sounds like a great name to me! Two very pretty names with lots of cute nn options too. [name]Don[/name]'t worry about what other people say, it is your baby. I have noticed that with pregnancy/birth/adoption/names/etc. people (especially family) seem to think it is thier business what you choose to do. In my opinion it is all a very personal and private experience for the couple and no one else’s opinion matters!

Okay, I have an idea for you! Why not split the name up? I tend to think that [name]Claribelle[/name], while beautiful, princess-like, and sweet for a young girl, doesn’t age as well as other names. But, I like it, and I think it would make a fitting nickname for your little princess!

Why not call her [name]Claire[/name] [name]Isabel[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name]? Or, if that doesn’t work for you, try [name]Clara[/name] [name]Bellamy[/name] [name]Violet[/name] or something! That way, you get your [name]Claire[/name] and your [name]Belle[/name] and you can use both for her nickname!

Another though. If you like [name]Claribelle[/name], perhaps you would love [name]Arabella[/name], as it sounds very similar! [name]Arabella[/name] is beautiful, but it doesn’t sound perfect with [name]Evangeline[/name]. You might be attracted to [name]Arabella[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name] or [name]Arabella[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name] as alternatives, though.

What do you think? Good luck and congratulations on your adoption!

I knew a girl named [name]Claribelle[/name] [name]Cruz[/name] i thought she was so lucky to have such a cool name. what doesnt your family ike about the name? They can call her clara if they want.

[name]Clara[/name] [name]Belle[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name] would be the easiest way of quieting those relatives, and yet it is essentially the same name.

I am not to sure on the name perosnally I much prefer [name]Lemon[/name]'s suggestion of [name]Claire[/name] [name]Isabel[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name] sorry

I think Clairabelle / [name]Claribelle[/name] is a lot of name for a little girl, personally. I find the name extremely feminine and some of the connotations for me (personally) aren’t that positive.

[name]Claire[/name], on the other hand, is gorgeous. [name]Belle[/name] as a second name is a good idea. I think that recommendation (by [name]Lemon[/name]) is much more polished.

Thanks for your reactions. I guess no name will please everyone so I have to go with my gut. I do like some of [name]Lemon[/name]'s suggestions, not sure where we will go from here. I still am in love with [name]Claribelle[/name], but some of my family just can’t get over the fact there is some cartoon cow out there named that. I have never even heard of this cow. My favorite name before [name]Claribelle[/name] was [name]Fiona[/name], and they didn’t want me to use it because of that pesky green ogre. I can’t win!

Yes, everyone likes to get into the act, and more so before the baby actually arrives – people in general will be more polite once the name is a fait accompli. That said, it CAN be good to learn a name’s possible downside before you’ve written it on the birth certificate. Your family are not the only people on earth to have heard of [name]Claribelle[/name] the Cow, and it might be better for you to hear about the negative associations now than for your daughter to bear the brunt of them forever after. I do think [name]Lemon[/name] and some of the others have had some good suggestions. And if you absolutely love [name]Claribelle[/name] or [name]Fiona[/name], then full steam ahead!

I like it and you should keep it! Who cares what others think. If we all had the same taste in names the world would be extremely boring - not to mention confusing!

lilibet, was there something besides the cow that is a negative for you? [name]Just[/name] curious.

I love the name! [name]Don[/name]'t worry about other people’s opinions, because you and your husband’s opinions are the only ones that matter when it comes to naming your child. I would spell it [name]Claribel[/name] though, just for the [name]Shakespeare[/name] connection. ([name]Claribel[/name] was a princess in The [name]Tempest[/name].) Also, [name]Claribelle[/name] looks a little too frilly for my tastes, but [name]Claribel[/name] is just fine. I also love [name]Corabelle[/name]. [name]Evangeline[/name] is beautiful! Over all, you have picked a wonderful name. [name]Don[/name]'t change it if you love it!

Well I think it is lovely and if you adore it that is all that matters! It is your baby girl  That said, if you are having any doubts, [name]Lemon[/name] made a lot of great suggestions and I also think the spelling of [name]Claribel[/name] is a fantastic alternative to done down the frilliness (if need be). But if you like the ultra feminine route - go for it! It is a very very pretty name.

 [name]Sheridan[/name] xx

I love [name]Clara[/name] [name]Belle[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name]! I think it is SO hard to find a name that you absolutely love, so if you absolutely love your original name, go for it. Once the baby is here they will come around. My best friend told me early on what her baby’s name was going to be and I was soooo not a fan (I would never, ever say that though). However, now that he’s here I think it is the most perfect name for him in the whole world. Fits him to a t!

While [name]Claribelle[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name] wouldn’t have been my first choice of name I don’t see why your family really has a problem with it. So what if there used to be a cartoon cow called [name]Claribelle[/name]? If they don’t like it they can just call her [name]Clara[/name] or [name]Belle[/name] and then they don’t have to think about it. Really, any name that you pick is going to bother someone. Would you be scared away from [name]Theodora[/name] because of [name]Dora[/name] the [name]Explorer[/name]? No, so why worry about [name]Claribelle[/name]. If you love it then go for it.

If it really bothers you, though there are a lot of other -belle choices out there, like

[name]Mirabel[/name]
[name]Christabel[/name]
[name]Isabel[/name] (very popular, though, of course)
[name]Annabella[/name]
[name]Arabella[/name]

i thought cow before i kept reading… and saw there was a cartoon… for me, just has a cow thing with it… sorry. I like [name]Lemon[/name]'s suggestion best.

Good luck!!

I love the name! Very original but not “out there”. I wouldn’t worry about what your family thinks. All that matters is your giving a beautiful baby a wonderful home full of love! The name should be the farthest thing on these peoples minds.
Good luck to you!

My hubby liked [name]Claribel[/name] better than [name]Claribelle[/name] anyway, so maybe we will go with that spelling.

Because you like [name]Fiona[/name] do you like [name]Fiona[/name] [name]Claire[/name] or [name]Fiona[/name] [name]Belle[/name]?

I love [name]Fiona[/name] and both pairings you suggested are wonderful. However my family has said no to all three top favorites…

No to [name]Fiona[/name] because of Shrek
No to [name]Claribelle[/name] because of the cow
No to [name]Lorelai[/name] because of the mystical evil maiden who lured sailors to their doom.

I have had horrid luck.
