hi berries!
feeling pretty settled with my lists (top 8) at the moment but i’d like a solid top ten because it’s bothering me more than i can admit to be at eight .
i’d love for you to convince me for (or against) some of my other favourites. i’ll put the list and some thoughts about them, as well as my current shortlists, below. feel free to suggest as well!
girls
current shortlist
darcie (darcie joanna)
summer (summer elise)
evie (evie charlotte)
imogen (imogen alice)
bronte (bronte talia)
adeline (adeline matilda)
mia (mia verity)
bridie (bridie madeleine)
contenders:
alice
- love alice, but i think i love imogen alice more and i’m reluctant to change
- unsure if she sounds too prim and proper next to something like darcie?
charlotte
- popularity doesn’t bother me much, but charlotte really is ubiquitous - too much with bronte and bridie?
- also would need to find a new middle for evie and evie charlotte has my heart
- if i did use charlotte as a first i could use charlee as a nickname which i love
lily
- love the sound and associations
- used to be one of my top names but i kind of went off her a bit?
maeve
- one of the first names i loved
- i heard it on one of my mum’s students, but then i worked with her for a few months and now i find it hard to dissociate her from the name
stella
- another which used to be one of my top names
- i love the ‘ella’ sound and star meaning
verity
- i feel like i should love her and while i do like her a lot, something i can’t name puts me off a bit
- would have to find a new middle for mia, and i love mia sophie but sophie is very much a gp - worth it to rearrange?
boys
current shortlist
darcy (darcy matthew)
reuben (reuben elijah)
jasper (jasper finlay)
lewis (lewis jonah)
ashton (ashton fletcher)
oliver (oliver jude)
theo (theo lennox)
charlie (charlie simon)
contenders:
callahan
- too long/much?
- very surnamey and unsure if he sticks out too much
- i don’t think i love him
evan/evander
- evan was my top name for a long while, he feels a little boring but i’m not necessarily sure if that’s a bad thing?
- evander i like more at the moment and seeing him as evan + alexander has brought him more ‘down-to-earth’ but i’m still worried that he’s too out-there and fantastical compared to my other names
fletcher
- feeling really drawn to him right now but i’m not sure if it’s just a phase
- would have to find a new middle for ashton
- lack of nicknames - i don’t love fletch
murphy
- feels kind of different vibe-wise
- too surnamey? less of an issue if i add callahan too?
will
- really like it but don’t love any long forms
- any middle with ‘just will’ feels like the start of a sentence or question - ‘will edmund give me this?’ etc.
thanks in advance,
jemma
