Coolest unintuitive nicknames you’ve come across?

There were two [name_m]German[/name_m] princess named [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] “Sossy” and [name_f]Margarethe[/name_f] “Mossy”, just made me think of that

That’s really cool! Did she have her name as [name_f]Serenity[/name_f] (Wren) so you knew it was a nickname?

Wow - Marinina is really pretty
[name_m]Georges[/name_m] isn’t one I’d think of for [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] but that’s actually a really cool story!

two that come to mind are [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] “Liv” and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] “Pepper”!

It was a birth announcement, with the parents saying they’d call their newborn daughter [name_f]Serenity[/name_f] “Wren”. Which begs the question, why didn’t they just go with [name_u]Wren[/name_u]? But still, I found it pretty cool.

His brother’s name was William I believe, and Claude didn’t like being called Claude, so he sort of borrowed his brother’s name and used a nickname from it :person_facepalming:

possibly! I knew an Elizabeth ‘Billie’ too!

I think it went Elizabeth → Bettie → Nettie!
Not sure about Zoe for Lisa.

another elizabeth, but i went to school with an elizabeth “fizz” !! she went by fizz full time. i also know a katherine “kit” (always kit) and an alexander “xandy”, which are pretty intuitive but definitely not among the most common nicknames,

Off the top of my head,

I grew up with a [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] ‘Cole’ and when I realized his full name was [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] I thought it was such a cool and creative nickname!

I also know an [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] “Eliz” pronounced EE-liz which I always thought was cool, and a [name_f]Naomi[/name_f] ‘Nicki’.

I know a [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m] who goes by [name_f]Joy[/name_f].
I also met an [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] who goes by [name_f]Elona[/name_f].

[name_f]My[/name_f] husband’s cousin [name_m]Mordechai[/name_m] goes by [name_m]Motti[/name_m], which seems perfectly normal to his family but seems a little unintuitive to me. Like in almost every Jewish family there are several men named [name_m]Mordechai[/name_m], and some go by - in my opinion - wild nicknames like [name_m]Motka[/name_m], Morkel and and [name_m]Mottel[/name_m]. Don’t get me wrong, I love the whole (Jewish) nickname culture in their family.

Some more examples:

[name_m]Naftali[/name_m] - [name_u]Tully[/name_u]
[name_m]Yehuda[/name_m] - Yutka
[name_m]Shmuel[/name_m] - Mulka
[name_m]Gershom[/name_m] - Godel
[name_f]Tamar[/name_f] - Temke
[name_u]Yehudit[/name_u] - [name_f]Itta[/name_f]
[name_f]Sarah[/name_f] - Sirki

[name_f]My[/name_f] niece is [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] nn [name_u]Issy[/name_u] (pronounced Izzy). She’s virtually never called [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f].
[name_f]My[/name_f] sister chose to call her [name_u]Issy[/name_u] as she didn’t like any of the other nicknames

I met a girl (I think her name was [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]? Something like it anyway) who went only by [name_m]Bob[/name_m], my age!

When my sister was littler, I called her [name_f]Viv[/name_f] and Vivvy a lot. Her name is [name_f]Violet[/name_f]!

I’ve also seen an [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] who goes by that but she spelt it EB!

And I’ve seen an [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] whose nickname is [name_u]Min[/name_u] and maybe it’s just me but I wouldn’t have thought of that but I do love it tho!!

[name_f]My[/name_f] sister is [name_u]Maria[/name_u] but we call her [name_f]Maya[/name_f].
