I’m suddenly struck by the idea that [name]Copper[/name] could make an adorably quirky, chipper girls name, a la [name]Harper[/name] and [name]Piper[/name]. I’ve never actually met anyone of any age with this name, has anyone else? What do my fellow berries think of [name]Copper[/name]'s name potential? ![]()
I immediately thought of an old fashioned term for a cop. A Chicago gangster in a black and white movie going, “You’ll never catch me, copper!”
I don’t know. I’ll have to think about it. But I don’t think it has instant “drive-up” appeal. At least, not in my opinion. I think if anything it’s going to be an acquired taste sort of a name.
My first thought was the dog in Disney’s [name]Fox[/name] and the Hound. It reads male pet name to me. I’d much rather see [name]Penny[/name].
I immediately thought of the slang for police, too, but that might be from living in the UK. I can’t see it working, somehow.
You’ll never get me, dirty copper!
I also thought of the police term, but regardless I think it would be cute and spunky. It really reminds me of [name]Penny[/name] as a stand alone name. Maybe it would work better as a middle name, though?
I think of the metal… not a fan
Update: I mentioned it to my husband and he liked it.
Hmm, interesting. See, I’m from the states (mid-atlantic) and no one calls police officers “coppers,” I never would have even thought of that!
Hehe, we still call them that ![]()
Police and metal associations aside, it’s not completely horrific. Definitely not my style, but it’s not as bad as some other names I’ve seen on here recently cough [name]Satchel[/name]. Steer clear of pairing [name]Copper[/name] with [name]Piper[/name] though. People will think you’ve got a fetish for plumbing ![]()
It makes me think of copperhead snakes but that is probably due to my region. If it weren’t for that, I’d like it more.
I think I slightly prefer [name]Pepper[/name] to [name]Copper[/name]. Seems in the same genre as [name]Piper[/name], [name]Harper[/name], [name]Ginger[/name], etc. Spunky!
Yeah, the police association kind of ruins it. I have thought about this before, because copper is a pretty material as a metal. But unfortunately it is much better suited as a name for a dog. Sorry!
I think it would make a better nn than a full name. Like a boy named [name]Cooper[/name] with red hair nn’d [name]Copper[/name]. I had all the same associations as pp’s cops, [name]Fox[/name] and the Hound, pennies.
FYI [name_f]Copper[/name_f] is a girl’s name. Or atleast it was in my case. All of the associations you mention and more I’ve heard as jokes around my name my whole life. I can easily separate the men from the boys based upon their reaction to my name. Very useful in the business world.
I’ve been looking my whole life for someone else with my name. I find it taken online quite a bit as a handle or username but no one I’ve met with it on their birth cert. like me. If there is anyone out there feel free to message me, I’d love to trade stories.
Yes sorry for the chuckles but in Australia that’s a big catchphrase too ![]()
I’m in the US, and thought of slang for ‘policeman’. [name_u]Silver[/name_u] could work, though.
To me it sounds like a great name for an Irish Setter.
Possibly a nickname for a very rich woman of the country club set, like [name_f]Tipper[/name_f] or Ladybird or Muffy. I’d really hope it was a nickname though.
I get the cop thing. It’s not my first thought.
As far as adorable nicknames go, my heart belongs to [name_u]Pepper[/name_u]. I wouldn’t put it on the birth certificate though.
Yeah, I immediately thought of the TV show “[name_f]Copper[/name_f]”, about the Irish cop in [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_m]York[/name_m]. After watching that, it’s all I can imagine when I hear it.
It’s actually a top name of mine. [name_f]Glad[/name_f] someone else is a fan. I think it is cute, yet strong!!! Go for it!
