Cora Rose?

What do you think? I’m a tad hesitant becuase it seems a bit ‘r’ heavy, and sort of sounds like cornrows.

BUT…

It has a lot of meaning. My step dad (always was just ‘dad’ to me, he was there for everything) passed away a few years ago, and our son is named after him- [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] [name_u]Michael[/name_u] “[name_u]Jem[/name_u]”. [name_u]Michael[/name_u] was my dads middle name, and their first names sounds similar. I really wanted this baby to have a piece of him too, but since she is a girl it’s so much harder.

Basically, the movie Titanic was instrumental in how my parents met and fell in love. It was ‘their’ movie and I fell in love with it as a teenage too. My dad always called my mom his [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. So I thought [name_f]Rose[/name_f] would be nice. I mentioned it to my mom and she broke out in tears, she loved the idea. My husband loved it too, until i mentioned the cornrows thing.

I also like the nickname [name_u]Rory[/name_u], so [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] could be a way to get there, though it is a bit roundabout and [name_u]Rory[/name_u] might never stick.

Anyways- what do you think?? Our other picks are [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Lily[/name_f], though neither are as meaningful.

I never would have thought of the cornrows thing if you hadn’t mentioned it. Unless you use it as a double name, then I don’t see any problem. [name_f]Cora[/name_f] as a first and [name_f]Rose[/name_f] as a middle sounds perfectly lovely to me. If you’d prefer, you could always try a similar name, like [name_f]Coralie[/name_f], [name_f]Coraline[/name_f], etc.

[name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is a sweet name and it’s great that it has meaning to your family, but it doesn’t have the best flow since both names are short with heavy O and R sounds. I like the suggestion of [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] or [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], and you could still call her [name_f]Cora[/name_f]. Or what about something like [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] or [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f], which would also flow better?

Hmm…

[name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] would work, but I agree that the flow is not ideal. “Corn rows” does not strike me as an issue.

I like the pps suggestion of [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. Other ideas:

[name_f]Gloria[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] has the same “ore” sound as [name_f]Cora[/name_f], but the extra syllable improves the flow.
[name_f]Floria[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] - ditto

These have a similar flow to [name_f]Cora[/name_f], but would avoid the ‘corn rows’ concern you have.
[name_f]Moira[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]

Thank you!!

I should have mentioned that [name_f]Cora[/name_f] is set in stone, definitley non negotiable. We are just trying to find a middle name. [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] is on the family tree, though distant, and probably sounds the best with [name_f]Cora[/name_f] in my opinion. [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is a nature name which is somewhat a tradition, and also was our wedding flower. [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is the most meaningful to me because it is a tribute to my dad, which I really wanted both kids to have a little piece of him. I know it doesn’t sound the best. My brain is trying so hard to come up with another way to honor him!

[name_f]Lovely[/name_f] AND meaningful! Perfect!

I think meanings beat everything else - and [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is full of meaning for you. Definitely go with it!!

[name_f]Coral[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Coral[/name_f] is in ocean(titanic).Is this a possibility???

Honestly, I think the meaning is so special to you that [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is perfect. Sure, there’s two R syllables following eachother, but the meaning is so much more important than that. I think [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is the right name for your family (:

PS - I didn’t once think of Cornrows, haha! Doesn’t sound close to me, and I don’t think others would ever notice either.
