Cora

Hello, berries!

I’m trying to get a general opinion on the name [name_f]Cora[/name_f]. It’s a name that I personally love, which I guess is all that matters, but I’ve gotten mixed reviews from friends and other name sites. My family loves it because they understand my reasoning behind the name. My mothers name is [name_f]Cori[/name_f], and [name_f]Cora[/name_f] is on my list to honor her.

So, do you like the name? If not, why? When I’ve pushed for the reasoning behind a friend disliking the name, I’ve gotten that [name_f]Cora[/name_f] sounds too “cold” and “blunt” - is this true?
What are some images and feelings that you associate with the name [name_f]Cora[/name_f]?

Thank you!

I love [name_f]Cora[/name_f]! I tried really hard to get my husband on board with it for our first daughter but he would only compromise with the middle name of [name_f]Coraline[/name_f]. However there is a little girl on our street named [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and it just makes me smile every time I hear it. Plus I think it ages really well. And to me it is light sounding. Not sure why some would think it sounds cold.

It is a great name. If you love it then use it. Especially if it honours your mom …that association makes it even sweeter.

My daughter’s name is [name_f]Cora[/name_f]. I picked it because it sounded pretty, but was simple - easy to say and spell. As for images and feelings, umm, it’s all tied up with my daughter now. We didn’t tell people her name until after she was born, so we didn’t any people arguing against the name. I did get a few “is it a family name” from people a generation or two above me, which I think is because it sounded like an old person name to them (probably most of the antique revival names sound like that to their generation). I’ve had quite a few people say that they really like it. One lady at church liked it so much that she suggested it as name to her pregnant daughter and later was so excited to tell me that they had named their baby [name_f]Cora[/name_f]. The name doesn’t exist that everyone will like. Yes, it’s a good idea not to pick one that most people will hate, but [name_f]Cora[/name_f] isn’t a “most people will hate” name.

I like the name [name_f]Cora[/name_f] quite a bit. It’s one of those names that feels timeless, and also shapes many styles. It is a simple, feminine charm (along the lines of mega-popular names like [name_f]Ava[/name_f] and [name_f]Emma[/name_f]), a certain vintage prettiness, a spunky note, and roots from both Greece and [name_f]Scotland[/name_f], a mine of Nameberry favourites. [name_f]Cora[/name_f]'s also ageless; she can be nine, nineteen or ninety.

I’m glad you started this thread. I am interested in the name as we’ll. It’s actually my front runner my only problem is that I’m wondering if it is getting to be too popular. I dropped [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] for [name_f]Cora[/name_f] for the same reason. After reading about all of the [name_f]Cora[/name_f]'s I fear she is the next [name_f]Ava[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f] name

[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Cora[/name_f]!! I also love [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] and [name_f]Coralie[/name_f]!!

[name_f]Cora[/name_f] is fantastic! I think it sounds sweet and flowery and perfect. Now it reminds me of Downton [name_u]Abbey[/name_u], which isn’t bad at all! Please use [name_f]Cora[/name_f].

I like [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and I love [name_f]Coraline[/name_f]!!!

[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Cora[/name_f]. I picture a chubby, happy, sweet little baby named [name_f]Cora[/name_f]. Doesn’t sound a bit cold to me!
