I found I like the name [name]Coraline[/name] a lot now (a few days ago, haha). I always liked the name [name]Cora[/name] but I thought it was lacking and seemed more like a nn. Also [name]Corabelle[/name] seemed too fluffy and [name]Coralee[/name] seemed made up.
So my question is do you see/hear [name]Caroline[/name] instead of [name]CORAline[/name]. And would you think of the book; bad or ok thing?
I like it, it’s a very sweet name! I do think a lot of people might think you chose it because of the [name]Neil[/name] Gaiman story or ask if that’s where you got the name but I don’t think it’s a problem though unless that sort of thing annoys you.
[name]Edit[/name]: I know a few people have asked about the history of [name]Coraline[/name] so I thought I would let you know it was a well established French name before Gaiman used it.
Agree with pp, [name]Coraline[/name] is infinitely more beautiful than [name]Caroline[/name]! [name]Love[/name] the story/film and like french names anyway, so for me it’s perfection. Have considered it for a middle name.x
I like [name]Coralie[/name] and [name]Cora[/name] quite a bit, but really dont like [name]Coraline[/name]. Maybe it’s because the book/film freaked me out so I’ll always associate it too strongly there.
I dont associate it with [name]Caroline[/name] immediately, but that may be because my name is [name]Caroline[/name]. Actually, maybe thats the bias and why I dont like [name]Coraline[/name], it just feels “off” to my ear. And when the movie was in theatres, people decided to call me [name]Coraline[/name] which I thought was really annoying because its not my name. (And…vent over! haha)
In general I’m not a fan of [name]Cora[/name], [name]Coraline[/name], [name]Caroline[/name] or anything similar. But [name]Cora[/name]-[name]Line[/name] in particular makes me think of a Chorus [name]Line[/name].
