Cordelia, Beatrice, or Victoria

My husband and I are expecting our first child in [name_u]July[/name_u], and our names are William and Catherine. So since our names already coordinate nicely, we want to choose something British and classic to go nicely with William and Catherine on the family Christmas card. We will choose a middle name after we pick the first, but we will probably use something very classic and simple for a middle name like Jane. (We won’t use one of our first name choices as a middle.) Also, we have a very common, short, straight-forward British last name, Marks. All that being said, we have narrowed it down to (in alphabetical order):

[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Victoria[/name_f]

We really can’t decide! What are your thoughts and opinions on each of these? Thanks!

I like [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
then [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]
then [name_f]Victoria[/name_f].

I love [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] with the nickname [name_f]Cora[/name_f]. [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] is also sweet. [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] would be beautiful. [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] is pretty but feels dated to me but that might be because the only Victorias I know are from my generation. Without knowing your middle name choice I would go with [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f].

[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] for me. I dislike the other two.

I love [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]. It has a timeless elegance for me. Perhaps the only drawback is the nicknames which seem to be [name_f]Vicki[/name_f] or [name_f]Tory[/name_f]. I don’t dislike [name_f]Tory[/name_f] but it seems to be drawing negative comments of ‘tired’- If I could stamp a nickname I liked from [name_f]Tia[/name_f] to [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] would be good. Then again [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] is a name that I wished was used more - without much more. I love the Shakespearean character of [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]. The myth/ legend associated with the name, the sound and the nick names. An absolute gift to your daughter- and hope she will grow to agree. Sorry I am not a fan of [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] as a first. Makes a distinctive middle.

[name_f]Victoria[/name_f], [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] then [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] for me, in that order. I love [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] the most -beautiful, elegant and victorious name.

I love both [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], feel neutral about [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]. I think I will vote [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]; it’s such a gorgeous name:)

I vote [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]. It is a sweet, cute name but also sophisticated. It sounds good on a girl of any age, baby to mature adult. The nicknames [name_f]Bea[/name_f] or [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] are cute too. I vote that. It is surprisingly not heard enough.

Second I vote [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]. It is beautiful. Third I’d say [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]. It’s overused to me.

I very much agree! [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] is the strongest and most timeless of the three, despite it’s nickname options (I really dislile [name_f]Vicki[/name_f] & [name_f]Tori[/name_f] is overused). The suggestion of [name_f]Tia[/name_f] is lovely! I also like [name_f]Ria[/name_f] and the even way less conventional [name_u]Rori[/name_u] (if it works for [name_f]Lorelai[/name_f], why not [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]?)

[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] is also lovely but feels very dated to me. I think, especially in today’s day & age of modern and trendy names, [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] might stick out in a bad way. That said, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with and I really love [name_f]Cora[/name_f] as a nickname. I personally wouldn’t use but I still love it.

[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] is just too old-fashioned and dated for me. Though with the spike in popularity of Divergent, and the adorable nickname [name_u]Tris[/name_u] attached to it, I don’t think it would stand out as much as [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f].

[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]? I think this is the nicest option. Though if you don’t use [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], I’d go with [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], as I think it’s more wearable & vintage than [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f].

I like all three, but would probably opt for [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] or [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]. [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] is a classic but it is also widely used, to where it doesn’t charm me as much as your other options. [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] would be lovely on a little girl these days! It’d be my top pick.

They’re all such lovely names!

I think I’d pick [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] first just because it’s a little more unusual and uncommon. I love [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_f]Delia[/name_f] as cute little nicknames.

Then [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], it’s such an elegant name and conjures up images of a sweet little cherub.

Then [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] last. It’s a classic name, sturdy and strong, but I know a lot of [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]'s already so the name might feel a bit dated compared to others.

[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] or [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] would be stunning on a small girl! It does feel a bit dated in the abstract, but I definitely feel that this would be entirely redeemed on an actual child. [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] is beautiful, too, but for some reason I don’t feel this is quite as distinctive a choice as [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] in this context. I’m not sure why. I’ve never been able to get into [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], but Triss is a gorgeous nickname, and [name_f]Bea[/name_f]'s rather cute too.

  1. [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]
  2. [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]
  3. [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]

[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]'s my favorite on the list! I really like it! It feels much fresher than the other two yet it still has that vintage vibe.

[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]. It’s a nice name, but I can never decide if I like it or if I find it too old lady-ish and unappealing. It’s kind of boring to me.

[name_f]Victoria[/name_f] has a lovely meaning and a long history, and I do see the appeal, but I just personally find the name to be a little plain and overused.

All three are wonderful though, so I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them.

I like them best in the order you have listed. [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] feel more current right now; [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] feels a bit meh in comparison to me. [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] feel bright happy and playful to me.

I love them all. I would probably prefer either [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] or [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], because [name_f]Vicki[/name_f] and [name_f]Tori[/name_f] aren’t my favourites, although you could use [name_f]Ria[/name_f] or [name_u]Tora[/name_u], or the full name.

[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] - I love the nicknames [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_f]Delia[/name_f], but not full name [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f].
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] - I love the nickname [name_f]Bea[/name_f], but not the full name [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f].
[name_f]Victoria[/name_f] - Beautiful and elegant. I dislike any nickname for [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], such as [name_f]Tori[/name_f] or [name_f]Vicky[/name_f], it’s wonderful as the full name.

Thinking about a real person with these names, my favorite would have to be [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], followed by [name_f]Victoria[/name_f].

[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]! So beautiful! [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] is my second choice.

I think that [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] (victory) is the prettiest/most wearable, but [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] (daughter of the sea) and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] (she who brings happiness) have way lovelier meanings

Out of your list, I personally prefer [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]. To me it’s a timeless name.

[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f],is not my cup of tea, but I do love the nicknames [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_f]Delia[/name_f], and I think this name has great wearability. I can see it on a little girl, as well as a woman. I also think this name has the best potential out of all three on your list.

[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], I am not a fan of. Where I live there is a popular brand of milk, [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] milk, and that’s really all I think of. (Dairy cows, milk, farms ect). When I try to see this name on a person I really struggle to get past these images. But again, this is just my opinion. If you really love the name [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], then don’t worry about my opinions, it’s likely no one else will share my opinion.

Out of your list, I feel like [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] is the way to go, it has great nicknames, it is a well received name in general, it bridges the gap between [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]. So if in the future you have another girl, and [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] are still on your short list, either would go nicely with [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]. Or either would go nicely as a middle name to [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]. But this is just my opinion, go with your gut and eighth at you love.

Thanks for all the thoughts–keep them coming! We are so torn between all three.
