Hey! I’m voting for [name]Cordelia[/name]!!! Go, [name]Cordelia[/name]! My favorite nicknames are [name]Cora[/name] and [name]Cordie[/name]/[name]Cordy[/name].

I also love [name]Delia[/name], and now that I think about it, [name]Della[/name], too.

I really like [name]Coraline[/name] a lot, but I love [name]Cordelia[/name]'s history and meaning.

I’m so jealous of your family tree…

Take care!

[name]Cordelia[/name]!!! I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Cordelia[/name]! [name]Coraline[/name] is made-up, and I prefer real names. I think [name]Neil[/name] Gaiman, the author of the book [name]Coraline[/name], even said it came about as a typo for [name]Caroline[/name]. I would never use a name so recently invented, with just the one association! I absolutely love [name]Cordelia[/name], though, and my favorite nickname is [name]Delia[/name].
Other (stretchy) nicknames:

[name]Didi[/name]
[name]Lili[/name]
[name]Dilly[/name]
[name]Cori[/name]
[name]Cia[/name]
[name]Kiki[/name]
[name]Della[/name]
[name]Del[/name]

[name]Iris[/name], I didn’t realize the [name]Coraline[/name] was the result of a [name]Caroline[/name] typo! I’ve always noticed the similarity, but didn’t realize how it came to be. That’s really interesting!

Take care!

[name]Hi[/name], [name]Lyndsay[/name]!

I’d choose [name]Cordelia[/name], for sure! I’d call her [name]Dilly[/name] or, my favorite, Deeley (not quite sure how I’d spell that one…)

This is what he said in an interview:

“I sat down and I started writing [name]Coraline[/name] which was a name that I think I took from a typo. I”d been writing a letter to a friend called [name]Caroline[/name] and I transposed. [name]Larry[/name] [name]Niven[/name], the science fiction author, wrote an essay years ago which I”d read in a book on writing science fiction where he said, ”[name]Treasure[/name] your typos. You may always need to use them. [name]Remember[/name] your typos.” And it was one of those places where I went, ”[name]Coraline[/name]! I like that. It”s got a mirror in it, it reflects [name]Caroline[/name]. It”s beautiful.” It”s like it has coral in it, it has beauty in it, it has things beneath the depth, and it”s also a name that people are always going to mishear and if you don”t pay attention, you will turn it into [name]Caroline[/name].”

I thought that was really cool, too! I like how he describes the name. It’s really pretty, but I still wouldn’t use it myself. I guess you could also think about it as an elaboration of [name]Coral[/name], like [name]Coralie[/name]…

Thanks for posting that, [name]Iris[/name]! That was really interesting! I really like how he described the name, too.

Have a good night!

[name]Cordelia[/name] is one of my favorite names. [name]Love[/name] nn’s [name]Cora[/name], [name]Corrie[/name], [name]Delia[/name]. Also [name]Lea[/name].

I don’t think [name]Coraline[/name] is made up–I’d seen it in name books prior to the release of Gaiman’s book. It’s a gorgeous name, one of my favorites, with the only real drawback being that, like the character in the book, you take a big risk that lots and lots of people will confuse it with [name]Caroline[/name]. (I also prefer the [name]Cora[/name]-LEEN pronunciation to Gaiman’s [name]Cora[/name]-LYNE, but again, you risk confusion either way.)

That said, I think you should go with [name]Cordelia[/name], which is also a lovely name, because of the family meaning it has for you!

I love the name [name]Cordelia[/name]! It’s one of my favorite names and I think it is amazing. I love it’s Shakespearean connections. I like [name]Cory[/name] as a nickname, and [name]Coco[/name] is an adorable pet name.

I vote for [name]Coraline[/name]!!

Someone once said that [name]Cordelia[/name] sounded like someone with the flu trying to say [name]Cornelia[/name] and I’ve never been able to appreciate it since…

[name]Cordelia[/name]! [name]Love[/name] it!

Dearest, that is so funny!
I personally prefer ‘[name]Cordelia[/name]’ to ‘[name]Cornelia[/name]’ simply because the former means ‘daughter of the sea’ and the latter, ‘horn’. I just can’t get past the ‘horn’ meaning! (It’s a lot like ‘[name]Penelope[/name]’ meaning ‘duck’ - an adorable name with a ‘less than desirable’ meaning. [name]Corny[/name]?)

I voted ‘[name]Cordelia[/name]’. I’m afraid ‘[name]Coraline[/name]’ will still be associated with the [name]Tim[/name] [name]Burton[/name] movie for a few years yet. That association kind of ruins it for me, otherwise I’d really like it. ‘[name]Cordelia[/name]’ is still one of my faves.

I love [name]Cordelia[/name] too!! [name]Cori[/name]/[name]Cory[/name] is adorable! Not as fond of [name]Delia[/name], I knew a really snotty girl named that once. [name]Coco[/name] is adorable too!

Hey!

I think the [name]Coco[/name] nickname is very cute, too, especially if you use a repeating CO - CO name…

[name]Cordelia[/name] [name]Columbine[/name]
[name]Cordelia[/name] [name]Cosette[/name]

Cute!
