What is the general ruling on this name? [name]Do[/name] you all find it to clunky? Pretty? Girly? [name]How[/name] would you describe it? Would you say it would sound ok with sister [name]Annabel[/name]?
Old fashioned girly girl with just a bit of clunkiness…like the tiniest smidge. But enough to make it a bit hipstery than [name]Coraline[/name].
I really love it. Very pretty with [name]Anabel[/name].
Very Shakespearean. Goes great with [name]Anabel[/name].
I like it. She was one of two flawless female characters in [name]Shakespeare[/name]'s works, the other being [name]Hermione[/name].
[name]Cordelia[/name] is our number one name for a girl. I think it’s got a vintage charm, it will age really well, it has so many great nickname options and it’s not even in the top 1000. [name]Cordelia[/name] and [name]Annabel[/name] are perfect for sisters.
Sorry to be a downer, but I find [name]Cordelia[/name] to be a bit… excessive. It’s so Romantic, like, “Get the smelling salts! [name]Cordelia[/name] has swooned again! I’ve loosened her corset, but she’s completely beside herself…” Also, Lear is TRAGIC! Granted, [name]Cordelia[/name] was the nice sister, but Lear banished her because he didn’t trust her, and it’s just sad sad sad.
^^ My name is [name]Cassandra[/name] and I think we can all agree that her story is way more tragic and it has never once caused me an issue lol.
Sorry to offend. [name]Just[/name] my personal association. I’m no [name]Shakespeare[/name] scholar, that’s for sure. Yeah, I guess [name]Cassandra[/name] is one of those names that’s transcended its heavy story. [name]Cordelia[/name] may not be far behind, judging by it’s rising popularity.
^^ No offense taken at all - I just don’t think many people would automatically think “tragic” when they hear [name]Cordelia[/name]. I COULD be wrong, though.
I love [name]Cordelia[/name] and think it goes great with [name]Annabel[/name].
Reminds me of “[name]Anne[/name] of [name]Green[/name] Gables”…she was obsessed with this name thinking hers was the most plainand [name]Cordelia[/name] was the most elegant, feminine name. :-). Of all the clunky, old-fashionedy girls’ names, I think this one is pretty. Different, but not so unusual that you can’t comprehend it. I don’t [name]LOVE[/name] it, but I do like it.
[name]Cordelia[/name] is my granddaughter’s name. Everyone who hears it remarks about how beautiful it is and she is this petite, sweet, polite, old fashioned little girl. She is named after her great grandmother and it is her mother’s middle name. I just about cried when my daughter told me she loved her middle name and wanted to name her daughter [name]Cordelia[/name].
I make the same association, it comes before ‘[name]King[/name] Lear’ in my mind. I think its beautiful.
I love the name.
I love [name]Cordelia[/name]! It’s so vintage and feminine and charming, I don’t find it clunky at all, but it’s not too girly, either. I think [name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Cordelia[/name] are great together, and I adore the nn [name]Cora[/name]. [name]Delia[/name] is nice, too, though.
Literary and refined, however not as lushly romantic as some of her sister names due to the “[name]Cordy[/name]” nickname and first syllable.
I have to say I’m in the “love it” category too. Our Very soon-to-be expected twin girl is going to be [name]Cordelia[/name]. I think it’s a lovely name, that’s not Too anything. It’s known enough to not be “unusual” but it’s actually used so little that it seems almost “fresh” again. We had two [name]Cordelia[/name]'s in my recent-ish family history, though I didn’t know about it until after we chose the name and my mother told me. [name]One[/name] of the women I actually knew (somewhat). I never questioned her name because I was so young, but I always knew her as Aunt Deelee. And the other went by [name]Delia[/name]. My family members weren’t impressed with the choice, disappointingly. But, they haven’t liked any of our choices, while we love them all. Friends, acquaintances, and even strangers on the street have shown Tons of approval. Everyone other than our immediate family members seem to like it. Though, they are all VERY “top 10” name lovers.
Pretty and girly. Somewhat clunky, but not bad imo. I didn’t used to like it, but it’s really grown on me. And I [name]LOVE[/name] the nn [name]Delia[/name]! And I like it with [name]Annabel[/name].
I had forgotten that! With [name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Anne[/name] so close, I love [name]Cordelia[/name] even more with [name]Annabel[/name]!
Not a fan! I find [name]Cordelia[/name] constantly reminds me of cordial! As in lime cordial! I see its charm but can’t get past the cordial! I also wonder with [name]Annabel[/name] if she would feel like the ‘plain one’ granted she has the bel on the end but do you know what I mean? An [name]Anna[/name] named character being envious of [name]Cordelia[/name] and then being named [name]Annabel[/name] and having a sister called [name]Cordelia[/name]? I have never read the book but that thought sprang to mind and I could just be reading too much into it. [name]Just[/name] putting the thoughts out there so you can consider all he angles! Everyone has a different opinion or impressions so bear that in mind!
