Cordelia?

What are your thoughts on [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Cordie[/name_f])? Is it too girly/frilly? What do you prefer for a nn?

I love [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]! I much prefer [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Della[/name_f], or [name_f]Delia[/name_f] for nicknames.

[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] is pretty, but a little more name than I would be likely to choose in real life. I like [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_f]Coco[/name_f] as nicknames.

[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] is beautifully pretty and elegant, but I personally associate it with endearing [name_f]Anne[/name_f] of [name_u]Green[/name_u] Gables extravagance and would prefer something a little more down-to-earth, such as the old variant [name_m]Cordell[/name_m].

I have always loved [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]. It’s elegant, feminine, and literary. I also think it’s strong and substantial, and I like the nickname [name_f]Cordie[/name_f] but also love [name_f]Lia[/name_f], [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Delia[/name_f], and [name_f]Della[/name_f].

I love [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]!! I like the fact it is frilly but the harder sounds stop it from sounding fussy.

[name_u]Dell[/name_u] and [name_f]Cora[/name_f] are my fave nn. [name_f]Cordie[/name_f] is cute too

I have liked this name since I met someone called it about twenty years ago. It’s so pretty! Have to agree with pp’s on other nickname preferences.

I am neutral with [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]. I can see the appeal but i find it too frilly for my taste. Though i love the nn [name_f]Cordie[/name_f] a lot.

[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] is beautiful, but I personally dislike the nickname [name_f]Cordie[/name_f].
I like [name_f]Delia[/name_f] as a nickname, [name_f]Cora[/name_f] works to but it’s not my favorite…

I love the name [name_f]Delia[/name_f].

[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] is nice, though a little too frilly for my taste. I love the nn [name_f]Delia[/name_f]!

I love it! She is feminine, but I wouldn’t say too frilly. I love [name_f]Cora[/name_f] as a nickname, but you could always use [name_u]Cory[/name_u] if you are afraid of her being too girly.

I have a friend whose daughter (about age 6 or 7) is [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], nn [name_f]Cordie[/name_f]. As a previous poster said, I completely associate [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] w/[name_f]Anne[/name_f] of [name_u]Green[/name_u] Gables, so I have very positive feelings about [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], although I wouldn’t use it myself (GPs are Cordeliane & [name_f]Anne[/name_f]-[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] as a tribute to AGG). My favorite nickname is [name_f]Lia[/name_f].

Yes it is a bit frilly. So is [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], isabella, [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] and [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]- all names that are very popular or rising. I wouldn’t let that stop me. I think the [name_f]Anne[/name_f] of [name_u]Green[/name_u] Gables series made the name have an [name_m]OTT[/name_m] reputation for some people because everything with [name_f]Anne[/name_f] had to be flowery, but I don’t think it’s unusable. I will say I like [name_f]Cordie[/name_f] the most from the suggested nicknames… Otherwise I would use just [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]. Nothing wrong [name_u]Corrie[/name_u] or [name_f]Delia[/name_f], or NN in general, but if you are going to go as bold as [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] I would want it to shine and not hide behind [name_u]Corrie[/name_u]. That’s just me though.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]! I don’t find it that frilly, I think of it as clunky-cute. I don’t love [name_f]Cordie[/name_f], but it is for sure a standout choice compared to the default [name_f]Cora[/name_f]!

Gorgeous!!! I actually find [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] to be beautifully buttoned-down and a little demure, possibly because it’s a [name_m]Roman[/name_m] name. I would highly recommend

[name_u]Love[/name_u] it. Heard it the first time at a school. One of my favorites

I think [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]’s beautiful! Very elegant. I don’t think it’s “too much” at all. Yes, the name is frilly but I love frilly names so that isn’t a bad thing for me. The meaning is beautiful too!

I’ve had a crush on [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] for as long as I can remember. It’s classic and unusual at the same time. I’m not sure I would use it myself, but I get heart eyes whenever I think of someone seriously using it. I prefer [name_f]Delia[/name_f] as a nickname.
