Cormac(k)

We’re not trying yet, but we have rarely found a name we both love. I suggested [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] to my husband recently. His favorite author is [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_u]McCarthy[/name_u], and my great-grandfather (whose name I adore) was [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Mack[/name_m] (Last Name), so I thought it could be a cool honor name, but also one that is not quite common.

What do you think of [name_m]Cormac[/name_m]? Is it wearable/usable? Does it sound like a “trying too hard” name?

Also, do you have a preference in spelling between [name_m]Cormac[/name_m]/[name_m]Cormack[/name_m]?

(Last name is tough - starts and ends with “O”).

[name_m]Cormac[/name_m] is definitely wearable and usable, I’m honestly surprised it isn’t in the top 1000. I prefer the [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] spelling.

I knew a [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] when I was in high school and it wasn’t a problem for him. I’d be wary of what your last name is, though. His last name was something like [name_u]James[/name_u], so I made the mistake of thinking (for months) that his name was actually [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] and people just called him by his last name to be cool. But no, his name was, in fact, [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]. If you’ve got a surname that is solidly defined as a surname ([name_u]McCarthy[/name_u] is a good example, [name_u]Murphy[/name_u], etc.), then it should work fine.

I really like the name [name_m]Cormac[/name_m]. I think the spelling [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] is nicer.

[name_m]Cormac[/name_m] is a name I’m surprised isn’t more popular. It’s sturdy and handsome and there’s nothing complicated about it, which I appreciate. A K-ending would feel unnecessary, much prefer the [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] spelling.

I prefer the [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] spelling and I love this name, I think it is wearable and should be more popular - surprised it isn’t.

I really like [name_m]Cormac[/name_m]. Great underused gem.

I love [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] - it has such a unique and interesting sound! I think it’s very usable - it reminds me a bit of [name_m]Callum[/name_m] or [name_u]Max[/name_u] with a bit of an edge

Thanks, everyone! I’m definitely settling in to [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] as the #1 on our list. Brainstorming some middles, and I’m really liking:

[name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_m]David[/name_m]
[name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_m]Davis[/name_m]
[name_m]Cormac[/name_m] DeBord
[name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_m]Peter[/name_m]
[name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]
[name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m]

These are mostly all family names or variations of family names.

For what it’s worth, we’re loving [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] for a girl. [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] & [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] as a sibset is giving me major heart eyes right now! It’ll be a bit before we start trying, but I think these names are pretty timeless!

Fellow TN native here

[name_m]Cormac[/name_m] is growing on me. I’ve started to love it even though at first I only associated it with [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] McLaggen of [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m], who is not a positive character.

I think it is very wearable—elegant without being too popular.

As far as your middles, I like [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_m]David[/name_m] and [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_m]Peter[/name_m] the best, but I admit I have a thing for classic names. [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] is the only one I take slight issue with—the hard C transitioning to the hard G doesn’t feel easy to me. [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] is a lovely name, though!

[name_m]Cormac[/name_m] and [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] is a super cute sibset!

[name_m]Cormac[/name_m] is handsome! It’s recently moved up my list into the top 5. What I love is that it sounds strong and playful at the same time. It has a warmth and life to it that I enjoy.

[name_m]Cormac[/name_m] and [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] is an adorable sibset, btw, and I like [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] the most out of your brainstormed MN’s.
