Cornelia or Amelia?

[name]Hi[/name] again,

As my hubby and I are coming up with our name lists, a new name came to me. Well, new to me anyway
[name]Cornelia[/name]. But I want to know what other people think of when they hear it? What kind of girl do you picture with that name? [name]Do[/name] you like it or dislike it? It means ā€œhornā€ which is lousy, would that keep you from using it?
And weā€™ve been considering [name]Amelia[/name] for awhile but I worry about its popularity. Between the two, which do you prefer?

Thanks so much!

I love both, but Iā€™d choose [name]Cornelia[/name] over [name]Amelia[/name], because [name]Amelia[/name] is so popular and [name]Cornelia[/name] is virtually unheard of {#1 vs outside top 1000}. The meaning of names doesnā€™t bother me, and I donā€™t think ā€œhornā€ is that bad. Go for it!

I prefer [name]Amelia[/name] over [name]Cornelia[/name]. But both names are nice.

I prefer [name]Cornelia[/name]. I picture a spunky girl with a serious side. I could see using the nn [name]Nellie[/name] among friends and family and the more formal name to rely on professionally.

With [name]Amelia[/name], I kind of picture [name]Amy[/name] from [name]Little[/name] Women (yes, I know her name was not [name]Amelia[/name].)

My final testā€¦ If it were me, I would prefer to named the Less common [name]Cornelia[/name] than the more Common [name]Amelia[/name].

I prefer [name]Amelia[/name].
For some reason [name]Cornelia[/name] just doesnā€™t have a nice sound to me.

I want to like [name]Cornelia[/name]. But I canā€™t get past the ā€œcornyā€ sound at the beginning. So of your options, I prefer [name]Ameila[/name]. Have you considered [name]Cordelia[/name]? Much better meaning, nearly the same sound.

I choose [name]Amelia[/name]. I donā€™t like [name]Cornelia[/name] at all.

I thought [name]Amy[/name] was short for [name]Amelia[/name] in LW? Maybe Iā€™m mis-remembering.

I agree with this. If she was [name]Cordelia[/name] you could always use [name]Delia[/name] as nickname. Added bonus is it no longer means ā€˜horned oneā€™.

I prefer [name]Amelia[/name] to [name]Cornelia[/name]. [name]How[/name] about [name]Cordelia[/name]? To me, it is much sweeter and friendlier than [name]Cornelia[/name]. I just focus in on the corn in cornelia.

I slightly prefer [name]Cornelia[/name], but Iā€™d like [name]Amelia[/name] better if it wasnā€™t crazy popular. I like previous postersā€™ suggestions of [name]Cordelia[/name]. [name]How[/name] about [name]Emilia[/name] or [name]Aemilia[/name]?

Their both lovely names however my favourite is [name]Amelia[/name] just because sheā€™s so elegant and I also love the nickname [name]Mia[/name].

Iā€™m with lineska. [name]Cornelia[/name] Iā€™d love to like. And Iā€™d say use just nn [name]Nelia[/name] if she doesnā€™t like it, but if I think that would be a sign that maybe you should have picked an N name.

HOWEVER, on other peopleā€™s kids, Iā€™d love to meet a little [name]Cornelia[/name] and Iā€™m sure it would grow on me.

i dislike cornelia i like cordelia and i love [name]Amelia[/name]

Thanks everyone! I donā€™t like [name]Cordelia[/name] (neither does hubby) and Iā€™m just not sure about [name]Cornelia[/name]. We are Dutch and itā€™s much more common there. [name]Love[/name], love [name]Amelia[/name], just wish it wasnā€™t so darn popular! I donā€™t like using any of the alternative spellings just to make it ā€œyou-nique,ā€ I donā€™t want to saddle my future baby with something tricky she has to spell for everyone.

Thank you very much for all the feedback and opinions!

[name]Amelia[/name] all the way
