Cornelia or Cora? šŸŒˆ

Hello, friends!

[name_f][/name_f]

As Iā€™ve been working on my lists, Iā€™ve been continually plagued by the question of whether I should have [name_f]Cora[/name_f] or [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] on my list.

[name_f][/name_f]

Here are my various qualms regarding each name:

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]:

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] has been one of my favorite names since I first read the [name_f]Anne[/name_f] of [name_m]Green[/name_m] [name_m]Gables[/name_m][name_f][/name_f] series as a little girl. I think itā€™s the most beautiful name and I smile every time I see it. However, I fully recognize that for most be, [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] is one of the ugliest names to exist, which does bother me a fair bit. I also donā€™t love that besides [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] sticks out among my other favorites based on familiarity and especially length. (For reference, my other favorites are: [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], Hazel; [name_f]Ada[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Susanna[/name_f], [name_f]Ruby[/name_f], etc.) [name_f]My[/name_f] final qualm is that I would call a [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] ā€œCoraā€ 24/7, so it seems almost not worth it to have [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] as a full name:

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Cora[/name_f]:

[name_f][/name_f]

As I just stated, one of the main pro of [name_f]Cora[/name_f] is that that is the name I would call a [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] anyways. I also adore the name in general and I think it fits in better with my favorites. However, it feels less lovely to me than [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f], despite the fact that likely every other person in the world would prefer [name_f]Cora[/name_f]. It also hurts my heart to think of [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] not being on my list. I do think that perhaps usability wins out in this case? Maybe?

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]My[/name_f] final, much lesser issue is that my [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] combo is [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f], which I adore. If I went the [name_f]Cora[/name_f], my combo would likely be [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Blessing[/name_f] because I donā€™t love the sound of [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f], although I may be overthinking about the flow of [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] and perhaps it actually works? The issue with [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Blessing[/name_f] is that I would then need to find a new middle for [name_f]Martha[/name_f], which I absolutely donā€™t want to do. (I do understand how ridiculous that sounds.)

[name_f][/name_f]

So, after all that, what do you Berries think? [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] or [name_f]Cora[/name_f]? For my list specifically, not in general! And if you have any particular reason bc, Iā€™d love to hear it, although of course that isnā€™t necessary.

[name_f][/name_f]

Also, I did want to clarify that my names are NOT for real kiddos, so no lives will be impacted here.

[name_f][/name_f]

Thank you!

[name_f][/name_f]

Much love,

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Theo[/name_m]

Both are lovely! I prefer [name_f]Cora[/name_f], but for your list Iā€™d go with [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] ā€œCoraā€ and get everything you love out of it!

I do prefer [name_f]Cora[/name_f] however I think [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] is more you[name_f][/name_f] and I think your love of a name should outweigh other factors such as usability or other people preferring [name_f]Cora[/name_f]. [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] for me feels usable she has that lia ending that are popular within a lot of fashionable choices such as [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] etc. Furthermore there is such a wide variety of names used nowadays especially in a lot of multicultural countries like the UK/USA that what makes a name ā€˜usableā€™ all names are usable really thanks to all the exposure to such a variety of names.
[name_f][/name_f]I think you should keep [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] on your list and embrace the quirk of this name on your list.

I love Cornelia - said as both cor-neel-ee-uh and cor-nell-ee-uh! Itā€™s clunky and grand and lovely and it stands out in a good way imo! Youā€™ve got very usable nicknames and for me, it works just fine with Lucy, Evangeline, and Susanna at least.

Cora is sweet but sharp and I can see it would fit better with Ruby, Ada, etc but reading your words, Cornelia still seems to be the one speaking to you - and the fact not having it on your list hurts your head is a good sign to me that it should stay :person_shrugging:

(as a side note, if you went with Cora, Cora Jubilee, Cora Beloved, Cora Sunshine, Cora Winsome give me a similar vibe to Cora Blessing or Cora Joy?)

A few potentially less helpful points:

  • as someone else whoā€™s just collecting, Iā€™d just keep both and switch it up every now and then to which was speaking as my fave that day :person_shrugging:
  • if you want them to lean more real-world usable, would it help to have Cora as a first name in a combo and Cornelia as a middle for something more grounded/familiar/more universally liked? Like Josie Cornelia, Joy Cornelia?, Hazel Cornelia etc, so you get to have both on your list?
  • Ugliness/beauty in names is so, so subjective - and this is for your list, not anyone elseā€™s. If losing Cornelia feels too wrong, Iā€™d keep Cornelia. But if it feels too uncomfortable to have Cornelia on your list as a first name, maybe Cora is the better option :person_shrugging:

All that big ramble to say, my personal preference is Cornelia and Iā€™d go with that

I would go with [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]! Not only is she absolutely gorgeous, but she has that sentimental literary connection for you, which really emanates nostalgia and love. Despite me not believing in her being the ā€œugliestā€ name, if youā€™d be calling her [name_f]Cora[/name_f] 24/7 anyway then the general opinion of [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] doesnā€™t truly matter. The length fits in well in my opinion, she creates a nice balance between [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], [name_f]Susanna[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], & [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], and has that same cozy cottage feel.
[name_f][/name_f]Overall, I would say [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] gives you the best of both worlds ā€“ a lovely sentimental connection, but also a more familiar nickname.

First, I think [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] is beautiful[name_f][/name_f]. [name_f][/name_f] And I also think it would be totally fine to have a [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] called [name_f]Cora[/name_f] even 100% of the time. [name_f][/name_f] I know lots of people who have full names, yet go exclusively by a nickname. [name_f][/name_f] It seems to make the most sense to me that you keep [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] and that way have both. [name_f][/name_f]

[name_f][/name_f]

Additionally, if it helps, I also donā€™t see a problem with the length difference. [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] are as lengthy as [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] (and would make the most gorgeous trio of sisters, by the way), but even [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] & [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] or [name_f]Ada[/name_f] & [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f], for examples, do not seem mismatched because the styles are so cohesive that length really isnā€™t that noticeable at all, in my opinion.

[name_f][/name_f]

All that to say, I think you should keep [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]. [name_f][/name_f] Itā€™s a great name that deserves more love and use.

I prefer [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] and I think [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] ā€œCoraā€ is the way to go for you since you love [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] so much and would prefer to not rearrange your other combos.

I do prefer [name_f]Cora[/name_f] to [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]. Itā€™s the ā€œcorn/cornyā€ thing for me.

[name_f][/name_f]

However, I remembered the name from [name_f]Anne[/name_f] Of [name_m]Green[/name_m] [name_m]Gables[/name_m] being [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]. Am I remembering that incorrectly? I prefer [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] to [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f], and I donā€™t know if that helps your indecision at all.

I get this a lot!

Anneā€™s famous line does indeed refer to [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], but there is actually a secondary character called [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] in Anneā€™s House of Dreams.[name_f][/name_f] :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I much prefer [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f], especially for you!!
[name_f][/name_f]I am saying this as someone who also likes [name_f]Cora[/name_f] quite a bit, I just think [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] is so spunky and sweet and precious!
[name_f][/name_f]I also like the thought of her having a longer name she can have as a backup, and since itā€™ll be just hers (i.e. you call her [name_f]Cora[/name_f] in public so most donā€™t know her name is Cornelia) which makes it even more special!
[name_f][/name_f]I also think she goes really well with your names [name_f][/name_f]- your names are all very classic and literary, and I feel that [name_f]Cora[/name_f] sticks out as more modern!
[name_f][/name_f]I think the personal connection you have with [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] makes her 100% worth it [name_f][/name_f]- even though I think the masses will say [name_f]Cora[/name_f], I think [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] is just so special and perfect for you :green_heart:

I didnā€™t even have to read the full post to say [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]! [name_f][/name_f] She is so you, girl. [name_f][/name_f] I think [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] fits better with [name_f]Susanna[/name_f], with [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], with [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], with [name_f]Martha[/name_f], with [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f], with [name_f]Winifred[/name_f], with [name_f]Adella[/name_f], with [name_f]Lenora[/name_f], with [name_f]Luella[/name_f], with [name_f]Antonia[/name_f], with [name_f]Lois[/name_f], with [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f], with [name_f]Claudia[/name_f], with Johannahā€¦ [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]Cora[/name_f] might fit better with [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_f]Ada[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], and [name_f]Ruby[/name_f], but [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] is so authentically you and fits with so, so, so many of your recent and long-time loves. [name_f][/name_f] She is the epitome of your heart and is no less usable than [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] or [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. [name_f][/name_f] Many of the names I dearly love, I would use a nn 95% of the time for too, but I would never trade the full name and all the meaning it has.

[name_f][/name_f]

I really love [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Blessing[/name_f] and I personally do prefer [name_f]Cora[/name_f] to [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f], but I am ready to fiercely defend [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] for you, girl. [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f], [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f], [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]! [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f], [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f], [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]! [name_f][/name_f] Donā€™t you give up on her girl![name_f][/name_f] [name_f][/name_f] [name_f][/name_f] (For what itā€™s worth, I agree [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Blessing[/name_f] flows better than [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f], although I like [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] a lot too.)
