Cornelia vs. Cordelia

Which do you prefer and why :)?

I am pretty sure I am in the minority, but I prefer [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]. It is just much softer and more feminine to me, and the nickname [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] is adorable. I don’t really care about the corn thing.

[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] attracts my interest just a little more.

[name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] is better! The other sounds too old-fashioned.

I like both, but I’d be more likely to use [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]. It just sounds a lot cooler and kind of hipster-ish in a way.

I really like that [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] has the nickname option of [name_f]Nell[/name_f]/[name_f]Nellie[/name_f], but I can’t get past the “corny” jokes that would inevitably come along with the name. :frowning: I love [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], but I really don’t like [name_f]Delia[/name_f]. [name_f]Cora[/name_f] is a cute nickname for either [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] or [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]. [name_m]Both[/name_m] are old fashioned and beautiful.

I definitely prefer [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]. I find [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] to sound extremely dated and I’m just not a fan of the CORN sound for whatever reason.

I prefer [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]. I like [name_f]Delia[/name_f] as a nickname. I don’t care for [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] or [name_u]Neely[/name_u].

And I toy with a Shakespearean sibset sometimes and [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] would fit in well with [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] and [name_f]Miranda[/name_f].

[name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] reminds me of [name_m]Cornelius[/name_m] Fudge from [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m], whereas [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] reminds me of the kickass [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_u]Chase[/name_u] from [name_f]Buffy[/name_f].

Ignoring that, I even do still prefer [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]. [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] doesn’t sound right to me.

I like [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] more.

[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]. [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] is pretty but I always think about corn…

[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]. [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] is pretty but I always think about corn…

[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]!!! I am not a big fan of [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]. I don’t like the corn part of the name.

Definitely [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]. [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] sounds fustier, and can’t get over the “corn.” [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] is perfectly elegant!

Another one for [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]!

[name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] because of the [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] nickname possibility.

So it’s between Corn and [name_m]Cord[/name_m] and [name_f]Nelia[/name_f] vs. [name_f]Delia[/name_f]? Hmmm, I do love [name_m]Cornelius[/name_m] for a boy but strangely I’ve haven’t warmed to [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]. I would choose [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] for its Shakespearean flair.

I’m a huge [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] nut, and I love the nn/name [name_f]Delia[/name_f], but lately I’ve been swinging more toward [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]. I’m not entirely sure why. Maybe it’s because I’m not a fan of [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] in Lear–when you really analyze her actions in context, she comes away looking a bit selfish and sanctimonious. Also, there’s something a little…hm, I guess presumptuous about naming one’s kid after someone known for her filial piety, like saying “listen up, kid, you’re gonna love your parents soooooooo much or else.”

Anyway, [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] has really grown on me lately. It feels wonderfully soft and elegant despite that Corn- part.

I prefer [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]. I just think it sounds a lot nicer.

I much prefer [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]. All I see is “Corn” or even “[name_u]Corny[/name_u]” when I look at [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f].

[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] is a lot more romantic to my ears. Not to mention, I love all the nicknames it offers: [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Cordy[/name_f], [name_f]Delia[/name_f], [name_f]Della[/name_f]…
