I think it’s a stretch but it would be adorable as a nickname for something like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] or [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_u]Sierra[/name_u].
I agree with @casilda I think it can work if you use a middle name beginning with S.
Other than that, I think [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is a fine nickname for [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] but [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] is a stretch.
I think [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] nn [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] definitely works! The “ie” or “ee” ending is a common ending for nicknames, almost like a term of affection. There are definitely bigger stretches than [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] nn [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] which work. With an S middle name it’d “make more sense”, if there’s one you love, but you definitely don’t have to use one.
I think it works pretty well! I have to agree with the pp though that if you used a “S” or “C” middle name it would seem a bit more natural, but even without it should work no problem.
Thanks for your input. Anyone else out there want to chime in?
It’s too much of a stretch for me. Everyone will mishear as [name_f]Ellie[/name_f].
I disagree with pp’s about using a mn starting with S. I don’t think it makes a difference seeing as how most people won’t know your daughter’s name. I think [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] nn [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] totally works! Sure, it’s a bit of a stretch, but both names have lots of meaning to you, so I think it’s fine. Besides, when she’s old enough to introduce herself, she’ll probably just say, “[name_m]Hi[/name_m], I’m [name_f]Elsie[/name_f].” And that’ll be that. I think [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] nn [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] totally works and is lovely!
I think you can do whatever you want with nicknames! I love [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] for [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]. It’s nice to have something different than [name_f]Ellie[/name_f].
Definitely! [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] can work as an nn for any for almost anything starting with [name_f]El[/name_f]. Yes, it may be a little bit of a stretch, but I love it!
I love it! Why not! Some of the nicknames I hear give absolutely no reference to the child’s first name at all…[name_f]Elsie[/name_f] sounds like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]. I think it is a gorgeous name and such a cute nickname and it is beautiful that you chose to honour your grandmother. I also don’t like nn’s to be given as a complete name so I think go for it, it works. Good luck!
I think it works & it’s actually pretty logical: [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] -> [name_f]Elle[/name_f] -> Ells -> [name_f]Elsie[/name_f].
Though I admit naming her something like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] would make the nickname even more perfect.
Yeah, this is the process I went through in calling the [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] I knew [name_f]Elsie[/name_f].
