Could Sylvan work on a girl?

I’ve wanted to use [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] for years now, I love [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] Plath and the meaning of the name.

I tend to think it would make a better middle than first for some reason. Unfortunately I haven’t found a first name I like enough with [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]. So I’m considering [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m] as an alternative. (I don’t particularly like [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]). Does [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m] work for a girl? [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] is a combo I like!

I think it could work.

I prefer the very similar [name_f]Sylvaine[/name_f] [[name_m]SEEL[/name_m]-VEHN] and Sylviane [[name_m]SEEL[/name_m]-VYAN] for a girl. That being said, I can see the appeal of [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f].

I think so. It has a gentleness to it and reminds me of other feminine or unisex names like [name_u]Seren[/name_u], [name_u]Wren[/name_u] or [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]

I hate the idea, but [name_u]Florian[/name_u] is also a boy names occasionally used for girls, so I believe it can work

but, even [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] is used as girls names

I personally think any of these three examples: [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m], [name_u]Florian[/name_u] and [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] are used because they sound very similar to popular -n ending names, which is very silly way of naming their kids.

I like it!

I know a [name_f]Sylvana[/name_f] and I think it works better for a girl. [name_f]Sylvana[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] is pretty, and on paper, she wouldn’t be mistaken for a boy. Also, it has the same ending as Sylvia.

I think it could! It reads as gender neutral to me though I know it’s typically masculine. It has the very cute nickname “[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]”. I have also seen the name Sylvienne.

I think [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] works.
