Hey, everyone! The other day my husband sent me a message with his favorite name. [name_m]Loudin[/name_m], pronounced loud-en. At first I didn’t like it but the more I thought about it, the more I fell in love with it. I tried to forget about it and look for something else but I’m stuck lol. Personally, I’ve never heard the name before. I looked it up and was really disappointed when I saw it was a boy’s name.
DH said it was his grandmother’s middle name and that it came from her mother’s maiden name. That only made me like it more because it’s a family name and my husband adores it.
This has been the only name I’ve been attached to. I would save it for a boy but I’m pretty sure this is the only child I’ll be able to have. I just wanna know what y’all think. I’d understand if it sounds too masculine for a girl. Thoughts?
I’m not crazy about surname-names unless the name has an actual family connection, so to me this would be the perfect opportunity to use it, either as a first or middle. Personally I think it would work better as a middle name, but that’s just my taste. I say go for it.
I’d use it as a middle. It saves you the pronunciation problems and I always thought middle names are the best way to honour someone- I always felt naming you child straight up after someone is kind of like imposing them to be like them. In short, sure, you can go for it!
I like it! I agree with other that there may be pronunciation issues, however the pronouciation [name_u]Lou[/name_u]-din is still adorable, so its not like it would be too bad if it were to be mispronounced. The name is lovely and the family connection is great, Id say go for it!
Surnames are technically unisex so the answer to your question is yes, [name_m]Loudin[/name_m] can be used for a girl. The only one I’ve heard of is MALE and spelled it [name_m]Loudon[/name_m] ([name_m]Loudon[/name_m] Snowden [name_m]Wainwright[/name_m] III is a Grammy Award-winning American songwriter, folk singer, humorist, and actor. He is also singer [name_m]Rufus[/name_m] [name_m]Wainwright[/name_m]'s father). Personally, I would use it as a middle name only because I wouldn’t want to bear a name that has the word “loud” in the first syllable.
It’s interesting. I would either use it as a middle name or if you do want it as a first name then decide on a nickname that is a bit easier for everyone to pronounce ([name_f]Lulu[/name_f] etc.) as pp suggested. Then you can call her that right from the start.
Thanks everyone! Y’all have been really helpful. The mispronounciation doesn’t really bother me. I have a five year old neice named [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] (Zhawn-vee-ev). Some people try to call her [name_f]Jenna[/name_f]-Veve but she happily corrects them lol. Plus, the nickname [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] is really cute.
