So, I love one name that is too unfortunate for first. I plan to pair it with more “safe” first name. Problem is that both first and middle name are used back here and there’s no way to hide it. The name in question is:
[name_f]Psyche[/name_f]
It’s Greek mythology name (story about [name_m]Eros[/name_m]/[name_m]Cupid[/name_m] and [name_f]Psyche[/name_f]) and it means soul.
Could this name be pulled off?
I feel like IF it can be pulled off I like it better on a boy, as a second middle name. That way if it’s too different, they have a first name and first middle name to rely on. My father has 3 middles so I guess you can’t have too many!
I actually know a Pysche. So yeah I think it can be pulled off.
Hmmm, that’s a tough one. I feel like ancient Greek names are certainly getting more attention now. My main issue is that psyche is part of the average human’s vocabulary so they might think Freud/psychology before they remember there was an ancient Greek [name_f]Psyche[/name_f]. I also think it’s a very small step from [name_f]Psyche[/name_f] to psycho. For me the name has too much baggage to use.
I feel like this is not a name I would want to have grown up with and therefore I wouldn’t feel right giving it to my child. For a grown woman with a lot of confidence I think it’s kinda cool, but I do feel it could be very difficult to wear and I wouldn’t want to give a name that might feel burdensome to its bearer.
I hope this doesn’t sound rude but I think it would be a great name for a pet (especially a cat).
I don’t think it’s worth all the “psycho” jokes.
Maybe if you pronounced it the Greek way? It’s pronounced psee-HEE, though that doesn’t sound nearly as attractive as shy-kee
I agree with @halloween_jacqueline, @primbutcher, and @emmievis. I’m all for unusual names, but I feel like this one has a lot of teasing potential, and I think it would be difficult to pull off.
I can’t imagine anyone pulling off [name_f]Psyche[/name_f].
