A few days ago, when I asked you about hypothetical siblings for [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], I came across the idea of [name_u]Rudy[/name_u] as a nickname for [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]. I realize they share only two letters and it’s not intuitive but could it work? [name_u]Or[/name_u] is it too much of a stretch?
I don’t see any link to [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]

I’m all for a stretchy nickname… but I don’t get this connection at all, personally. If it came about organically, that’d be one thing, but to pre-plan something without any real connection is far-fetched, I’d say.
I think [name_u]Rudy[/name_u] as a standalone name works just fine with sisters [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]! I prefer it, actually, as I find [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] too close in sound for sibling names.

I mean, anything can work if you want it to. [name_f]Do[/name_f] I completely get it? Not really - but, if you can see it working, I think you could do it. Maybe something like [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Reuben[/name_m], [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Remus[/name_m], [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Bruno[/name_m], [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Ruan[/name_m], [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Rufus[/name_m]?
It’s a bit stretchy, but I mean, why not? There are plenty of nicknames that aren’t exactly intuitive, ie [name_u]Jack[/name_u] for [name_u]John[/name_u], [name_m]Hank[/name_m] for [name_u]Henry[/name_u], [name_f]Peggy[/name_f] for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] for [name_f]Sarah[/name_f], etc. I think [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] nn [name_u]Rudy[/name_u] is adorable if it’s what you love!
i agree that it’s a bit of a stretch. may i ask, why not just use rudy? it’s a lovely, sweet name, and fits perfectly with adelaide and eleanor!

[name_f]My[/name_f] personal opinion is that a nickname doesn’t need to have anything to do with the actual name. You can give any nickname you want.
[name_f]My[/name_f] boyfriend and I love the name [name_u]Rudy[/name_u]. However, to us it feels like more of a nickname than an actual full name. We went over what we think are all the possibilities of a full name for [name_u]Rudy[/name_u] but haven’t been able to find one we would commit on using (I explained in my previous post how girl names are a lot easier for us to love than boy names).
When a fellow berry mentioned it wasn’t too out there to have a [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] ‘Rudy’ it got us thinking if we had found the name… but I guess not 
(Edit: we would also like a fall back for our kid if he doesn’t like his given nickname, that there’s always the possibility of using his more traditional first name in the future)

While it won’t be everyone’s cuppa tea or be intuitive to everyone… if it’s the name for you, then why not? Your love for it is more important than internet strangers’ opinions, when it comes down to it. Both names are lovely, if not immediately easy to connect in everyone’s mind… but pleasing everyone is impossible and unnecessary. Your love is worth the most for this name!

I think we’re just really wanting to put together a nickname we love with a useable first name (knowing that we don’t like any of the already existing and more intuitive nicknames for Theodore)…
oh, okay. i understand! honestly, why not! as a previous poster said margaret’s are called peggy and daisy. why can’t theodore be called rudy? and if it helps any, i have a cousin named anthony who goes by “gus”
Personally, I think [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] are a little too close for siblings, but if you love [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] nn [name_u]Rudy[/name_u] I’d say go for it!! Nicknames don’t have to make total sense, as long as you love it, that’s all that matters 
That being said, I think [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], and [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] nn [name_u]Rudy[/name_u] / Rueby would make a fantastic sibset!!

I don’t see the connection, but I think a nn can work for anything if you want it to
Probably revealing my age here but Theo & Rudy reminding me of the now tainted Cosby Show! (Think I prefer Rudy for a girl - but don’t think I’d use myself bc of rudy nudey etc).
