Could use some opinions on our boy list!

While we have a long list of contenders and top contenders when it comes to girl names, both my husband and I find it difficult to find appealing and handsome boy names. [name_m]Abel[/name_m] for instance is a name found in my husband’s family tree and [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] was inspired by the [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] Cabret movie (he was almost an [name_m]Abel[/name_m]… so there). Both favorite boy names absolutely used up. We have a few that caught our eye thanks to this site and would like some opinions on them:

[name_m]Otto[/name_m]
[name_m]Ivor[/name_m]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u]
[name_u]Theo[/name_u]
[name_m]Luke[/name_m]
[name_m]Otis[/name_m]

We are trying hard to keep within our four-letter name pattern and don’t plan on repeating initials with the siblings’ names unless it’s a name we absolutely love and think is “the one”. We have a [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], [name_m]Abel[/name_m] and [name_f]Cora[/name_f].

[name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], [name_m]Abel[/name_m], [name_f]Cora[/name_f] & [name_m]Otis[/name_m] sounds the best in my opinion.
I also think [name_u]Jude[/name_u] would fit in there really well too!

[name_m]Otto[/name_m]: I like it. It seems older than your other kids’ names, but it’s cute.
[name_m]Ivor[/name_m]: very different but I like the uniqueness
[name_u]Jude[/name_u]: probably my favorite. I think it flows well with your other kids.
[name_u]Theo[/name_u]: it getting too popular for me but it’s a handsome name nonetheless.
[name_m]Luke[/name_m]: a little too bland to go with [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] and [name_m]Abel[/name_m], but’s its nice
[name_m]Otis[/name_m]: I think of an animal when I hear the name [name_m]Otis[/name_m] but it’s kinda adorable

I love [name_u]Jude[/name_u], [name_m]Otto[/name_m] and [name_m]Otis[/name_m] for you

I like [name_m]Otto[/name_m], [name_m]Otis[/name_m] and [name_u]Theo[/name_u] best for you. I feel like [name_u]Theo[/name_u] goes the best… But I just adore [name_m]Otto[/name_m] and [name_m]Otis[/name_m].
[name_m]Luke[/name_m] I honestly find a bit boring and since you’d prefer for everyone to have their own initial I think it should be eliminated.
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] is nice. It doesn’t seem as classic as your other names. It slightly bugs me that it’s only 1 syllable. Though perhaps if you’re going to have more kids after this one and want to keep the 4 letter theme going it’s best to introduce a single syllable one now so you don’t continue with 4 letters, 2 syllables.
[name_m]Ivor[/name_m] is a nice name but just seems harsh next to your other children.
Other suggestions:
[name_u]Dean[/name_u]
[name_u]Noah[/name_u]
[name_u]Reid[/name_u]
[name_u]Evan[/name_u]
[name_u]Arlo[/name_u]
[name_m]Emil[/name_m]
[name_m]Gabe[/name_m]
[name_m]John[/name_m]
[name_m]Milo[/name_m]
[name_m]Paul[/name_m]
[name_m]Saul[/name_m]
[name_u]Quinn[/name_u]
[name_m]Ross[/name_m]

Good luck.

Your list:
[name_m]Otto[/name_m] I would avoid since you have [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] who also ends in -o
[name_m]Ivor[/name_m] I would avoid because it ends in -or and your daughter [name_f]Cora[/name_f] has a strong -or-
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_u]Love[/name_u] it BUT you do have [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] with the strong U in the first syllable also. Personally I wouldn’t use it because of that and the fact that it’s only one syllable as opposed to the older children all being 4 letters and 2syllables.
[name_u]Theo[/name_u] I would avoid for the same reason as [name_m]Otto[/name_m] ([name_m]Hugo[/name_m], [name_m]Otto[/name_m] & [name_u]Theo[/name_u] to together well but are too matchy for me)
[name_m]Luke[/name_m] I would avoid because you already have a [name_f]Lilly[/name_f]… And trust me keeping that first initial is really nice & also Its one syllable while all your older children are 2 AND its another strong U in the first syllable ([name_m]Hugo[/name_m], [name_u]Jude[/name_u] & [name_m]Luke[/name_m] all go together nicely but are very similar with the U sound there and it’s too much for my personal preference)
[name_m]Otis[/name_m] this one I could go either way, you have Co- in [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and that’s a strong O sound, and a strong O ending [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] (personally I would avoid it, but I don’t dislike it.)

Your kiddos:
[name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f]
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m]
[name_m]Abel[/name_m]

My pick for you from your list:
Thanks is tough because I don’t dislike any of them, but they all have striking similarities … Which is fine, these are the things you personally like in names! Now with also having 4 letter names, that this far have been 2 syllable is a really lovely pattern… So far they all have unique initials and sounds and meanings! That makes your name choices very strong and individual which I like personally. Also as a parent… Being able to hear the clear distinct sounds of specific kids names, and just put initials on things… It’s a really nice thing. I recommend you use your list to find something uniquely your 3rd son’s name by narrowing down things you really like from things that are standing out.
So a name beginning in
B, D, E, F, G, I, J, M, N, P, V, W, X, Z
I’ve excluded A(for [name_m]Abel[/name_m]), C(for [name_f]Cora[/name_f]), H(for hugo),K([name_f]Cora[/name_f]'s I sound), L(for [name_f]Lily[/name_f]), O([name_f]Cora[/name_f]'s I sound), Q(I don’t like how it pairs with [name_f]Cora[/name_f]), U([name_m]Hugo[/name_m]'s I sound), Y( U sound)
Ending in
B, c/k, d, m, n, r, s, t, w may be the best ending sounds for your list

It seems you like L, O, U sounds a lot! Which is great and they are such bright and strong sounds.

You may want to keep O names an option - this leaves [name_m]Otis[/name_m] in my mind as a really good top from Your list.

You may want to keep looking for something that ends in a U sound like a -w name?

Or something like Truet - though it’s not 4 letters, can be pronounced Troot and but my preference is for the 2 syllable [name_m]Tru[/name_m]-it, could you consider baby #5 starts a new theme of 5 letter 2 syllable names? Would expand Your options but totally you can find the perfect name with no compromise so only consider that if you want to!

Your girls names are both sort of nature names so you may want to consider that with your girls

For one syllable names if you are looking at both one and 2, [name_m]Bram[/name_m] perhaps? [name_m]Jake[/name_m] ([name_m]Jacob[/name_m] being another 5 letter suggestion)

5 letter suggestions:
Truet
[name_m]Jacob[/name_m]
Garet

1 syllable suggestions:
[name_m]Bram[/name_m]
[name_m]Jake[/name_m]
[name_u]Sage[/name_u]

[name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], [name_m]Abel[/name_m] & [name_m]Otis[/name_m] would be my suggestion from your list

I will reply again with any 2 syllable, 4 letter suggestions soon!

[name_f]Happy[/name_f] name hunting!

My suggestions!
2 syllable:
Niam - means law or given by God. - underused, solid & strong history like Hugo & Abel!
Boaz - means swiftness - does have a strong o, so Cora & Boaz but I like them together for some reason- only if your name doesn’t begin with B!
Zion - meaning highest point- depends on how you feel about this name in general but it could work?

One syllable:
Bram - if your name doesn’t begin with B! It’s such a classic, solid and underused name. Diminutive of abraham !
Sage - wise! Unisex, nature
Jake - from Jacob
Dune - nature but again a strong U sound
Fenn- typically Fen- means peace
Prew - means brave
Ward - means guard
Dane
Dean
Drew
Dirk
Flyn
Gage
Grey
Jack
Jedd
Nils
Teag
True
Walt

more 5 letter Gaius, Briar, Sayer, Valor, Nahum, Isaac, Felix

Note: if your name is Bell as you sig suggests I would avoid my B suggestions and my suggestions of 5 letter names as you’re in on the pattern too!

and a few more 5 letter suggestions just in case: Gaius, Briar, Sayer, Valor, Nahum, Isaac

Husband and I were just looking at name lists again and came across [name_u]Wren[/name_u]. We really, really like it for a boy and also adored the story “[name_u]Wren[/name_u] [name_m]King[/name_m] of the Birds”. Nameberry tells me that recently it’s received more usage for girls, but we don’t like this one for girls, I feel like the sound is 100% unisex and maybe even a bit more masculine.

Opinions on [name_u]Wren[/name_u]?

[name_u]Bell[/name_u] is my nickname but what I get called the most other than Mama and Mommy  To make matter’s worse my husband is a [name_u]Seth[/name_u]!

I think [name_u]Jude[/name_u] and [name_u]Theo[/name_u] go the best with your other children’s names

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

Here are my thoughts:

[name_m]Otto[/name_m]-This is alright. Kind of fun and different. Not my personal favorite. It just reminds me of the bus driver on the Simpsons.

[name_m]Ivor[/name_m]-I don’t care for the harsh sound of this. I kind of like [name_m]Ivan[/name_m]. The nn [name_m]Ives[/name_m] is really cool.

[name_u]Jude[/name_u]-[name_u]Love[/name_u] this! Perfect w/your crew.

[name_u]Theo[/name_u]-Cute, but more nick-namey in my opinion.

[name_m]Luke[/name_m]-This is fine, but kind of boring.

[name_m]Otis[/name_m]-So cute! The style fits really well w/your kids’ names. Similar to [name_m]Otto[/name_m], but a little more old fashioned [name_u]America[/name_u] feeling.

Suggestions-

[name_u]Arlo[/name_u]

[name_m]Cash[/name_m]

[name_m]Eben[/name_m]

[name_u]Finn[/name_u]

[name_m]Joel[/name_m]

[name_m]Knox[/name_m]

[name_u]Lane[/name_u]

[name_m]Milo[/name_m]

[name_u]Noel[/name_u]

[name_u]Owen[/name_u]

[name_u]Rafe[/name_u]

[name_u]Rhys[/name_u]

[name_u]Shaw[/name_u]

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.

I like [name_m]Otis[/name_m] and [name_m]Ivor[/name_m] best with your family. I don’t think [name_m]Ivor[/name_m] sounds too close to [name_f]Cora[/name_f] at all - the emphasis is on different syllables. I’m not keen on [name_u]Theo[/name_u] when you have [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] though - don’t like 2 ‘o’ endings.

Oh hehe, you totally have to stick with the 4 letter thing then!!
And if you’re anything like us… Probably really do value your own initials… You do have a lot of restrictions but I know how that is, and sometimes you can really find something perfect and that can be a nice thing!

As far as [name_u]Wren[/name_u] goes, I agree it’s unisex! I don’t know why girls get all the pretty flowers and birds!
Boys get hawk & bear and like [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] … All are cool but I don’t see any reason why just because girls are using a word as a name that it’s not available for anyone. You’ve got other nature names in your mix and I think it fits and since your husband and you have one syllable names it fits. I think it does work fine for a boy though yes.

[name_f]Lil[/name_f].y, Hug0, [name_m]Abe[/name_m].l, [name_m]Cor[/name_m]@ and…

4 letters
[name_m]Otis[/name_m]
[name_m]Eben[/name_m]
[name_u]Evan[/name_u]
[name_m]Leon[/name_m]
[name_u]Owen[/name_u]
[name_m]Ewan[/name_m]
[name_u]Noah[/name_u]
[name_u]Theo[/name_u] (repetition of ending O sound)
[name_u]Lyle[/name_u] (repetition of ending L sound)
[name_u]Kyle[/name_u] "
[name_m]Earl[/name_m] "
[name_m]Joel[/name_m] "
[name_u]Noel[/name_u] "
[name_m]Thad[/name_m] (one syllable)

5 letters
[name_m]Myles[/name_m], [name_m]Miles[/name_m] (sort of 2 syllables) MY els

I like [name_m]Eben[/name_m], [name_m]Leon[/name_m], [name_m]Earl[/name_m], [name_m]Otis[/name_m] and [name_m]Myles[/name_m] (if you can accept 5 letters.)

I really like [name_m]Ivor[/name_m]! Is it pronounced the same as [name_m]Iver[/name_m], or stronger emphasis on the “or”? [name_u]Jude[/name_u] and [name_m]Otis[/name_m] are great too.

The strong “o” ending of [name_m]Otto[/name_m] and [name_u]Theo[/name_u] with [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] is not my favorite. It would cause me to mix their names often, but may not be an issue for you.

I agree with previous posters that [name_m]Luke[/name_m] isn’t as exciting as your other children’s names and has the same first initial as [name_f]Lilly[/name_f]. Is there a strong connection to that name keeping it on the list?

I think I like [name_m]Otis[/name_m] best!

[name_m]Otto[/name_m] is cute too, but similar to [name_m]Otis[/name_m]. [name_m]Otis[/name_m] wins for me because [name_m]Otto[/name_m] ends in an “o” like [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] and I prefer not to match in that way…but maybe I’m being picky

[name_u]Theo[/name_u] is getting popular but they may not bother you as used [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Cora[/name_f] is also rising. [name_m]Just[/name_m] doesn’t stand out for me like [name_m]Abel[/name_m] and [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]

[name_m]Luke[/name_m] shared an initial with [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and frankly like pp posters I find it bland next to [name_m]Abel[/name_m] and [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]

[name_u]Jude[/name_u] is cute and works well just I prefer others

[name_m]Ivor[/name_m]- honestly my favorite. I would use it myself, but I think it’s more eccentric than your others. Not a bad thing, just think objectively [name_m]Otis[/name_m] is the best.

Others:
[name_m]Adam[/name_m]
[name_m]Eric[/name_m]
[name_m]Olaf[/name_m]
[name_m]John[/name_m]
[name_m]Olav[/name_m]
[name_m]Oslo[/name_m]
[name_m]Leif[/name_m]
[name_m]Vlad[/name_m]
[name_m]Ezra[/name_m]
[name_m]Saul[/name_m]
[name_u]Rudy[/name_u]

I am sleepy so my suggestions are a bit all over but I feel even if we’re completely coherent [name_m]Otis[/name_m] is a great choice

[name_m]Otto[/name_m], [name_m]Otis[/name_m], [name_u]Jude[/name_u] and [name_m]Otis[/name_m] are so perfect with your sibset. I’m partial to [name_m]Otto[/name_m], it’s spunky and vintage like the rest of your kiddos names.

Here are some other names to consider…

two syllable
[name_m]Igor[/name_m]
[name_m]Ivan[/name_m]
[name_m]Boaz[/name_m]
[name_u]Remy[/name_u]

one syllable
[name_u]Finn[/name_u]
[name_m]Jack[/name_m]

[name_m]Oren[/name_m]
[name_u]Rudy[/name_u]
[name_m]Esai[/name_m]
[name_m]Enzo[/name_m]

5 letters
[name_u]Elias[/name_u]
one syllable
[name_m]Trey[/name_m] - he will be the third son

On your current list, [name_u]Jude[/name_u] and [name_u]Theo[/name_u] are my top contenders. I also like [name_u]Wren[/name_u] for a boy, but in your sibset I would definitely read [name_u]Wren[/name_u] as feminine. [name_u]Wren[/name_u] seems like a natural sister to [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Cora[/name_f], while it’s a different style than [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] and [name_m]Abel[/name_m]. Does that make sense? Not a dealbreaker of course, but I do think [name_u]Wren[/name_u] leans heavily to the girls’ side.
