[name]Just[/name] tell me what you think of them and whether or not you think they’d work in real life. Some are pretty unusual and I like quite a few word and nature names. Thanks!
Girls:
[name]Bay[/name]
[name]Adrienne[/name]
[name]Rain[/name]
[name]Emmeline[/name] - I pronounce it [name]EM[/name]-eh-line (it rhymes with ‘wine’)
[name]Madeline[/name] - I pronounce it MAD-eh-lin (ending sounds like [name]Lynn[/name])
[name]Amara[/name]
[name]Lake[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name]
[name]Mabel[/name]
[name]Lily[/name] [name]Rose[/name] (called by both names. I just don’t like hyphens)
[name]Do[/name] you prefer [name]Bay[/name] or [name]Baye[/name]?
[name]Do[/name] you prefer [name]Rain[/name] or [name]Raine[/name]?
Are [name]Harvey[/name] and [name]Mabel[/name] too dated?
Shore and [name]North[/name] too unusual?
Would you say that [name]Luke[/name] and [name]Aaron[/name] are too common?
If your going to prounce [name]Madeline[/name] like that, I’d suggest spelling it [name]Madelyn[/name]. The other way is never going to be pronounced correct. I think Shore and [name]North[/name] are a tiny bit out there, and I just don’t like [name]Bay[/name] as a name. If you really like it it could be a nn for [name]Bailey[/name]. And I like [name]Rain[/name] spelled like that, you’ll get people spelling it like that most often I think. Simpler is better sometimes. [name]Lily[/name] [name]Rose[/name] is stunning, but a lot of flower, and will most likely be shortened to just [name]Lily[/name] in school, something to think about, if you’re not okay with just [name]Lily[/name]. I like [name]Amara[/name], and I don’t think [name]Mabel[/name] is too old. Seems to be a favorite here lately. I love [name]Emmeline[/name] pronounced like that, it’d be my top pick! [name]Adrienne[/name] is stunning, and I love [name]Anabel[/name]
Thanks for your reply. From my experience MAD-eh-lin (as in [name]Lynn[/name]) is the most common pronunciation by far so I think I’d have much bigger problems if I wanted to pronounce it MAD-eh-line (rhymes with ‘wine’). I even started a poll not too long ago and almost everyone pronounced it with the -linn ending. I strongly dislike [name]Madelyn[/name]. It’s unattractive. I’d rather correct people, but I don’t think I’d have to correct them often. I dislike [name]Bailey[/name]. [name]Bay[/name] is a word name and even though it sounds like the first syllable of [name]Bailey[/name] it feels totally different to me.
I’m ok with just [name]Lily[/name] too I’m glad you like it, most people I’ve asked told me it was too much.
I think these are usable:
[name]Adrienne[/name]
[name]Emmeline[/name]
[name]Madeline[/name] (pronounced like ‘line’, not ‘lynn’)
[name]Amara[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name]
[name]Mabel[/name]
[name]Harvey[/name]
[name]Luke[/name]
[name]Aaron[/name]
Words, not names:
[name]Bay[/name]
[name]Rain[/name]
[name]Lake[/name]
Shore
[name]North[/name]
No, [name]Harvey[/name] and [name]Mabel[/name] aren’t too dated. The ‘grandma/grandpa’ type names are back in style.
I like [name]Luke[/name], I don’t think it’s too common at all. [name]Aaron[/name] feels a bit more dated than common.
[name]Bay[/name] – I don’t like this one. [name]Bayla[/name] maybe? I don’t know if that’s a real name but I like it better >.<
Adrienne – Very pretty.
Rain – I like Rain a lot, but more for the middle. I also know a boy named Rain so I feel like this name is unisex.
Emmeline - Love this one!
Madeline - If you want that pronunciation spell it Madelyn. I love Madeline (mad-eh-line) but Madelyn is good too
Amara – LOVE. I know a lovely girl whose an artist with this name.
Lake – Boy. I’ve only known boys with this name so thats my opinion
Annabel – never been my style, i think of a cow
Mabel – It’s pretty. I just had this name in my recent blog post spelled Maybell. I think it needs a come back
Lily Rose – a lot of flower right there in one name. Too much for me
Boys:
Harvey – too kiddish to me
Shore – nms at all. I actually like Dune though. Maybe you’ll like that?
North – i prefer West but this could work
Luke – classic and strong
Aaron – same as Luke
Are Harvey and Mabel too dated? No. I think Mabel needs to make a comeback
Shore and North too unusual? Shore is but I think North could work.
Would you say that Luke and Aaron are too common? No, I think not a lot of people are getting named Luke and Aaron any more and so they’re going to sound fresh
I love [name]Bay[/name]! I have a friend with a baby named [name]Baya[/name] ( Swiss) and I adore it. I also live [name]Annabel[/name]. [name]Lily[/name] [name]Rose[/name] is cute but a little flowery, and [name]Lilly[/name] is so common now.
Have you considered [name]Iris[/name] or [name]Juniper[/name]? [name]Acacia[/name] or [name]Acadia[/name]? I think [name]Dahlia[/name] is even sweet.
I love [name]Bay[/name]! I wish it would start getting some use. It’s very pretty.
[name]Adrienne[/name] is pretty but a bit dated to me.
[name]Rain[/name] is pretty, but I am not sure what I think of it. And I don’t like any of the spellings [name]Rain[/name], [name]Raine[/name], [name]Rayne[/name], [name]Reign[/name]…
[name]Emmeline[/name] is gorgeous!
[name]Madeline[/name] is boring to e.
[name]Amara[/name] doesn’t do anything for me.
[name]Lake[/name] would make a cute middle name, but I wouldn’t want to be called [name]Lake[/name]. I used to know a girl named Lakie.
[name]Annabel[/name] – I have bad associations, so can’t look at it objectively.
[name]Mabel[/name] is old-fashioned and ugly to me.
[name]Lily[/name] [name]Rose[/name] seems to be trying too hard. But it’s also really cute and I love double names!
[name]Harvey[/name] is an old man.
Shore reminds me of [name]Pauly[/name] SHore
[name]North[/name] could grow on me, but it hasn’t yet.
[name]Luke[/name] is awesome.
[name]Aaron[/name] is awesome, but a bit common.
[name]Bay[/name] - Gorgeous, top pick from your list
[name]Adrienne[/name] - not keen
[name]Rain[/name] - [name]Love[/name]
[name]Emmeline[/name] - I pronounce it [name]EM[/name]-eh-line (it rhymes with ‘wine’) - Not keen on this
[name]Madeline[/name] - I pronounce it MAD-eh-lin (ending sounds like [name]Lynn[/name]) - i would expect to be pronounced your way, i’ve never come across a [name]Madelyn[/name] before. I like love nn maddy.
[name]Amara[/name] - Very pretty
[name]Lake[/name] - i like this as well but can’t really imagine a little girl actually called it - [name]Amara[/name] [name]Lake[/name] would be a swoon-worthy name
[name]Annabel[/name] - bit meh compared to your other names
[name]Mabel[/name] - really, really like, but i love old lady names
[name]Lily[/name] [name]Rose[/name] - my daughter is [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Fae[/name], we use both names most of the time but i thought it looked ugly with hypens. [name]Lily[/name] [name]Rose[/name] is a very pretty feminine name, too popular for me though
[name]Do[/name] you prefer [name]Bay[/name] or [name]Baye[/name]? [name]Bay[/name]
[name]Do[/name] you prefer [name]Rain[/name] or [name]Raine[/name]? [name]Rain[/name]
Boys:
[name]Harvey[/name] - I think this would be a cool name, i’d love to see this on a wee boy
Shore - i really don’t know about this one, i’d have to think about it my initial reaction is no but i may change my mind
[name]North[/name] - never liked this as a name
[name]Luke[/name] - is a good boys name, totally mainstream but not overly popular
[name]Aaron[/name] - really common where i am in [name]Scotland[/name] but that’s because it’s a great name
Are [name]Harvey[/name] and [name]Mabel[/name] too dated? Definitley not, they are so old they are over being dated
Shore and [name]North[/name] too unusual? - i don’t know if it’s that they are unusual that bothers me, i can’t put my finger on it
Would you say that [name]Luke[/name] and [name]Aaron[/name] are too common? For me yes but also timeless.
Girls:
[name]Bay[/name]- I like [name]Bay[/name]. It might be a little short and nickname-sounding, but I think it works.
[name]Adrienne[/name]- It’s a fine name, but not my taste. I prefer [name]Adriana[/name], personally, but there’s nothing wrong with [name]Adrienne[/name].
[name]Rain[/name]- Meh. I don’t really care for it as a first, and people tend to get kind of annoyed at the rain, so it’s not super great to me. I think [name]Sol[/name] (sun,) [name]Bay[/name], or [name]Raina[/name] are good alternatives. It’s alright as a middle.
[name]Emmeline[/name] - I pronounce it [name]EM[/name]-eh-line (it rhymes with ‘wine’)- [name]Love[/name] it.
[name]Madeline[/name] - I pronounce it MAD-eh-lin (ending sounds like [name]Lynn[/name])- I really like it, though it’s a little bit overdone.
[name]Amara[/name]- Pretty.
[name]Lake[/name]- Probably my least favorite on the list.
[name]Annabel[/name]- [name]Lovely[/name].
[name]Mabel[/name]- Not my thing, but not bad.
[name]Lily[/name] [name]Rose[/name] (called by both names. I just don’t like hyphens)- I love [name]Lily[/name] and I love [name]Rose[/name], but together I think it’s too much flower.
[name]Do[/name] you prefer [name]Bay[/name] or [name]Baye[/name]? [name]Bay[/name], definitely.
[name]Do[/name] you prefer [name]Rain[/name] or [name]Raine[/name]? [name]Rain[/name]
Boys:
[name]Harvey[/name]- A little dated to me, but not bad.
Shore- Too close to “sure” and too wordy for me.
[name]North[/name]- Personally I really like [name]Wes/name, but [name]North[/name] is alright.
[name]Luke[/name]- I like [name]Luke[/name] and I love [name]Luca[/name].
[name]Aaron[/name]- Nice and classic.
Are [name]Harvey[/name] and [name]Mabel[/name] too dated? [name]Mabel[/name] seems a bit pet-like to me, not old. [name]Harvey[/name] isn’t old to me exactly, more like dated and young, if that makes sense. To me, it sounds like a name that wouldn’t fit an adult, but also like a name that hasn’t been used in a long time. I’m not really sure whether I like it or not.
Shore and [name]North[/name] too unusual?- I could definitely see both getting looks. I’m pretty sure they will, actually. I think Shore is just too much word. [name]North[/name] could maybe work. I think [name]West[/name] is more wearable though, as are [name]Weston[/name] and [name]Easton[/name].
Would you say that [name]Luke[/name] and [name]Aaron[/name] are too common?- Nope. [name]Luke[/name] maybe a little (especially with all the Lucases,) but I don’t know any Aarons, child or otherwise.
[name]Acacia[/name] is cute! I also like [name]Dune[/name].
I will never use [name]Madelyn[/name], it looks horrible to me. [name]Madeline[/name] is pronounced MAD-eh-linn by most people. I know three girls named [name]Madeline[/name] and all pronounce the ending as [name]Lynn[/name]. There’s an actress with this name and I googled interviews with her on youtube to hear how she pronounces it and it’s also MAD-eh-linn. I don’t know where MAD-eh-line comes from, probably the children’s book series, but I’ve never encountered that pronunciation in real life. I’ve never heard anyone call the Madelines I know MAD-eh-line. [name]Just[/name] as the -line in [name]Emmeline[/name] can be pronounced three ways and the -line in [name]Rosaline[/name], the -line in [name]Madeline[/name] can be pronounced as -linn, -line and -leen but MAD-eh-line is, in my opinion, an unusual pronunciation and not the standard pronunciation.
To each their own, but I believe that MAD-eh-linn for [name]Madeline[/name] is a standard pronunciation and I don’t intend to butcher the spelling (no offense to anyone who likes [name]Madelyn[/name], it just doesn’t appeal to me).
Thank you for your answers so far! Looking forward to more opinions.
[name]Bay[/name]- love it!
[name]Adrienne[/name]- not a big fan!
[name]Rain[/name]- don’t like
[name]Emmeline[/name] - it’s okay
[name]Madeline[/name] - nice
[name]Amara[/name]- don’t like
[name]Lake[/name]- don’t like, prefer [name]Bay[/name] much more, I feel like the middle name will sound like the name of a lake “[name]Lake[/name] [name]Victoria[/name], get down here now!” – I mean, just imagine that.
[name]Annabel[/name]- great name!
[name]Mabel[/name]- it’s okay, don’t love it.
[name]Lily[/name] [name]Rose[/name]- [name]Don[/name]'t like it as a first name, but I like it as a first and middle
[name]Do[/name] you prefer [name]Bay[/name] or [name]Baye[/name]? [name]Bay[/name]
[name]Do[/name] you prefer [name]Rain[/name] or [name]Raine[/name]? If I had to choose, [name]Raine[/name], but I don’t like either
Boys:
[name]Harvey[/name]- not a fan
Shore- hate it
[name]North[/name]- hate it
[name]Luke[/name]- great choice
[name]Aaron[/name]- not a fan
[name]Bay[/name] - I really like [name]Bay[/name] actually. I wouldn’t add an E. [name]One[/name] pp’s suggestion of [name]Baya[/name] is nice.
[name]Adrienne[/name] - NMS, but nothing wrong with it
[name]Rain[/name] - feels very hippy to me, but I like it. I would use it in the middle.
[name]Emmeline[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name]. Your pronunciation is more natural for me.
[name]Madeline[/name] - I automatically say Mad-eh-lin with this spelling. I do find it REALLY popular though. This spelling ranks at #77, but if you add Madelyns (#76), Madeleines (#320), Madilyns (#332), Madalyns (#361), and Madelynns (#398), then it’s really ranked at #10 in the US with 10,786 babies born with this name (in 2010–not sure how the numbers have changed; that’s what the SSA had to work with).
[name]Amara[/name] - NMS, but I like it!
[name]Lake[/name] - I have only known a boy by this name, but I see how it could work on a girl. I agree about the [name]Lake[/name] [name]Victoria[/name] thing, though.
[name]Annabel[/name] - I like it
[name]Mabel[/name] - I like [name]Mabel[/name]! I don’t think she’s too old at all!
[name]Lily[/name] [name]Rose[/name] - They flow together fine, but that’s a lotta flower. I personally find [name]Lily[/name] too popular.
Put together, I think [name]Amara[/name] [name]Lily[/name] [name]Rose[/name], [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Lake[/name], and [name]Mabel[/name] [name]Amara[/name] are fabulous.
Boys:
[name]Harvey[/name] - this feels dated to me
Shore - very word to me, not my fave as a name
[name]North[/name] - love this as a name!
[name]Luke[/name] - I like [name]Lucas[/name] a little better, but I think [name]Luke[/name] is a classic.
[name]Aaron[/name] - I like this classic, too.
[name]Lucas[/name] [name]North[/name] or [name]North[/name] [name]Aaron[/name] would be very handsome!
[name]Bay[/name] -REALLY love the suggestion of [name]Bayla[/name]…and [name]Bay[/name] as a nn…so cute but I like water names
[name]Adrienne[/name] - boring
[name]Rain[/name] - well I don’t like weather names…even though it’s a water…weather seems weird to me, unless it’s [name]Sunny[/name]
[name]Emmeline[/name] - bored with these types of names
[name]Madeline[/name] - over it. I know people all the way up too 15 that have this name…it’s like more boring than boring
[name]Amara[/name] - Very pretty
[name]Lake[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it…and that suggestion about [name]Amara[/name] [name]Lake[/name] is super cute and so chic
[name]Annabel[/name] - reminds me of a cow or a prize winning rabbit…farmy
[name]Mabel[/name] - [name]Maple[/name] is cuter to me…
[name]Lily[/name] [name]Rose[/name] - I am over [name]Lily[/name] names too…especially with [name]Rose[/name]…what about another flower like [name]Zinnia[/name] I think that’s cute maybe [name]Nia[/name] for a nn
Boys:
[name]Harvey[/name] - [name]Harvard[/name] would be a cool name and [name]Harvey[/name] as a nn
Shore - I like this better for a girl maybe Shorlyn or something I dunno…
[name]North[/name] - I think it’s cute. Much better than [name]West[/name] which sounds like a girls name
[name]Luke[/name] - good not great
[name]Aaron[/name] -I like this better for girls spelled Ayrn I think that’s cute
[name]Bay[/name] - Pretty, I like [name]Baya[/name] a lot too.
[name]Adrienne[/name] - A little dated, but I still like it, prefer it to [name]Audrey[/name] and [name]Aubrey[/name] actually.
[name]Rain[/name] - I like [name]Raina[/name] better.
[name]Emmeline[/name] - I pronounce it [name]EM[/name]-eh-line (it rhymes with ‘wine’) - I like this pronunciation best, pretty name.
[name]Madeline[/name] - I pronounce it MAD-eh-lin (ending sounds like [name]Lynn[/name]) - I would spell it [name]Madeleine[/name] if you want that pronunciation.
[name]Amara[/name] - Went to high school with a girl named [name]Amara[/name], have always like it
[name]Lake[/name] - Really like this one, my favorite out of your nature/word names.
[name]Annabel[/name] - Very sweet and classic.
[name]Mabel[/name] - So cute, not too old sounding at all!
[name]Lily[/name] [name]Rose[/name] (called by both names. I just don’t like hyphens) - My favorite on your list! I think it’s beautiful, I like [name]Emma[/name] [name]Rose[/name] a lot too…
[name]Do[/name] you prefer [name]Bay[/name] or [name]Baye[/name]? [name]Bay[/name] (or [name]Baya[/name])
[name]Do[/name] you prefer [name]Rain[/name] or [name]Raine[/name]? [name]Rain[/name] (or [name]Raina[/name])
Boys:
[name]Harvey[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it! [name]Favorite[/name] boys name on your list.
Shore - Maybe a middle name, having a hard time seeing this one as a name and not a word.
[name]North[/name] - Like it!
[name]Luke[/name] - Strong, classic name, I’ve always liked [name]Luke[/name].
[name]Aaron[/name] - Same as [name]Luke[/name]
