We need some help coming up with a name for our fourth child. We live off grid in the mountains of [name_u]Montana[/name_u] and are trying to come up with a name that fits with where we live. We want something straight forward and ‘simple’ (easy to spell and pronounce), and ideally something to do with nature or just the country in general. Our children are [name_f]Meadow[/name_f], [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], and [name_m]Nickolas[/name_m] [name_m]Jr[/name_m].-they all have nicknames: [name_f]Rosy[/name_f], J, and [name_m]Tripp[/name_m]. Names that we have ruled out:
Woods
[name_u]River[/name_u]
[name_u]Rain[/name_u]
[name_m]Forest[/name_m]
Cabin
Moose
[name_m]Bear[/name_m]
[name_u]Ivory[/name_u] (my favorite)
Hearth (another of my loves)
Steadfast
Homestead
Fields
[name_f]Cricket[/name_f] (my husband’s favorite, but I’m still on the fence)
Since all my kids have nicknames, I would love if we could nickname this one [name_u]Teddy[/name_u], but I just can’t seem to find a name that leads to it.
[name_u]Teddy[/name_u] is a tricky one… [name_m]Bear[/name_m] would work, or a name with that meaning ([name_m]Arthur[/name_m], [name_m]Orson[/name_m], [name_u]Bern[/name_u], [name_m]Bernard[/name_m], [name_m]Urso[/name_m], etc.) Failing that, [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] strikes me as the sort of sweet pet name that you could use regardless of your child’s formal name, kind of like [name_m]Buddy[/name_m] or [name_u]Sonny[/name_u]. If you love it, there’s nothing to stop you calling him that no matter what you name him.
ETA: This is gonna be a stretch but bear with me (sorry dad joke). I always think of Koda as a bear name because of the movie Brother Bear. You could feasibly get Teddy from a name like that you associate with a bear.
Well… [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] is a traditional nickname for [name_m]Ed[/name_m]- names, so maybe [name_u]Eden[/name_u] nn [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]?
[name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m] is a possible full name for [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] too. There is also [name_m]Tide[/name_m] ([name_m]Tyde[/name_m]?).
[name_u]Ash[/name_u]
[name_f]Aster[/name_f]
[name_m]Leon[/name_m]
[name_m]Marcus[/name_m] nn [name_u]Mars[/name_u]
[name_f]Starling[/name_f]
[name_u]Sky[/name_u] / [name_u]Skyler[/name_u]
[name_f]Briar[/name_f]
[name_m]Maverick[/name_m]
[name_m]Solomon[/name_m] nn [name_m]Sol[/name_m]
Wilde / [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]
[name_u]Love[/name_u] the idea of [name_m]Thatcher[/name_m] with a nn [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]! It’s not quite woodsy enough for uss though. I’m loving all these suggestions!
[name_f]Endeavor[/name_f] for a word in its own category
I like cricket actually and [name_m]Bear[/name_m] nn [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] is totally doable for animal names
[name_f]Topaz[/name_f] or [name_f]Garnet[/name_f] go well with [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
[name_m]Field[/name_m] [name_m]Pike[/name_m] [name_m]Forest[/name_m] … Location type names like [name_f]Meadow[/name_f]
Or another family connection like your other child.
My first thought was [name_u]Calder[/name_u], which means rocky water. Makes me think of a stream in the middle if the woods.
I also like previous posters suggestions of [name_m]Wilder[/name_m].
Thinking of “woodsy” type names made me think of trees. Looks like [name_m]Birch[/name_m], Alder or [name_u]Douglas[/name_u] may be options for trees which are prevalent near you.
Thinking of your like of simple names, what about just [name_u]Theo[/name_u] for nn [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]?
[name_m]Bjorn[/name_m] could be nicknamed [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]! I have a [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] (girl) whose full name is T3tl3y. Other nature type names:
[name_u]Cedar[/name_u]
[name_u]Spruce[/name_u]
[name_u]Aspen[/name_u]
[name_m]Shale[/name_m]
[name_u]Robin[/name_u]
[name_u]Clem[/name_u]
Rosaire
[name_u]Clove[/name_u]
Elken
Otter
[name_m]Martin[/name_m]
Grizzly
Opalin (to be matchy with [name_m]Jasper[/name_m])
Dusk
[name_u]Channing[/name_u] means “wolf cub”. I also like the suggestion of [name_m]Wilder[/name_m].
[name_u]Larkin[/name_u]
[name_m]Fox[/name_m]
[name_u]Wren[/name_u]
Creek
Butte
[name_m]Peregrine[/name_m]
Summit
Osprey
[name_u]Jem[/name_u]
[name_u]Onyx[/name_u]
[name_u]Orion[/name_u]
[name_m]Castor[/name_m]
Pleiades
[name_f]Breeze[/name_f]
[name_m]Brookes[/name_m]
I read a book where one of the character’s names was Prarie and I thought it was gorgeous. I believe she was a little girl, but I could see it on a little fellow as well!
I love your children’s names! [name_f]Meadow[/name_f] is beautiful. I’m sure there will be repeats in this list but here’s my two cents-
[name_m]Flint[/name_m]
[name_m]Colt[/name_m]
[name_f]Kodiak[/name_f] (you may know this but:[name_f]Kodiak[/name_f] island near [name_f]Alaska[/name_f] is home to some of the largest grizzlies in the world- called [name_f]Kodiak[/name_f] bears!)
[name_u]Everest[/name_u]
[name_u]Dakota[/name_u]
[name_m]Thorn[/name_m]
