[name_f]Miriam[/name_f] ’ [name_u]Mirri[/name_u] ’ [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [Franklin] Birkhead (35) is Eli’s sister, the only girl born to her parents, who offered to act as a surrogate for him and her brother-in-law. This ended up not happening thanks to [name_u]Mirri[/name_u] learning she was in fact already pregnant, in spite of she and her husband using protection following the birth of their twin daughters, who’ve just turned seven. While she was disappointed, feeling she’d let [name_u]Eli[/name_u] and [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] down, she couldn’t deny the excitement and joy learning she was expecting once more - especially after seeing how delighted her daughters’ were to find out they’d become big sisters. Her son was born a little prematurely but without complications, and [name_u]Mirri[/name_u] now feels her family’s complete, a sentiment shared by her husband.
Working as a gynecologist, Mirri’s decision was influenced by coming from a large family where fertility was never an issue - aside from one of her aunt’s, who faced a great deal of pain and upset, enduring three miscarriages before giving birth to Mirri’s cousin. She can seem a little aloof and uppity to some people, having quite a clipped manner around those she doesn’t know, but is incredibly compassionate, open-minded and empathetic towards those she works with. In particular, [name_u]Mirri[/name_u] is defensive of her family and assumptions she was pressured into studying medicine, something she’ll always argue against. Like her brother she can speak Hebrew and ASL, but isn’t as linguistically gifted, something she jokingly laments about often to their brothers.

[name_m]Aaron[/name_m] [name_m]Uziah[/name_m] [name_u]Franklin[/name_u] (36) also known by his Hebrew name [name_m]Aharon[/name_m], is a younger brother of [name_u]Eli[/name_u] and older brother of [name_u]Mirri[/name_u]. Unlike his siblings, he is unmarried and has no children, although he is biologically the father of multiple unknown children. That’s because he is a sperm donour and has donated for the past decade. Mirri‘s children love him as an uncle as well. He is currently in an alternative rock band called Burgundy Twist as a backing vocalist. He knows most of the languages his siblings know but is the least fluent in ASL. Sometimes he and his deaf brother don’t get along because his brother dislikes that he can never hear Aaron’s music and hates that [name_m]Aaron[/name_m] isn’t as fluent in ASL as the others, feeling like [name_m]Aaron[/name_m] doesn’t care about him. While [name_m]Aaron[/name_m] is never leaving the band, he is trying his hardest to make up for any misunderstandings with his brother and wants to be better at ASL for him.

[name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] Retallick (19) is a huge fan of [name_u]Burgundy[/name_u] Twist. In fact, listening to them inspired her to start her own band, which floats somewhere between alternative rock and ethereal wave/goth. They’re still coming up with the band name (since they’ve only had a few very small, local gigs. Her favorite suggestions have been: Retallick Sway (inspired by their sound and her aunt [name_f]Consuelo[/name_f], who goes by Sway and means a lot to Alice), Retallick Fallacy (kinda rhymes and plays off of her first name), and EVETTA (taken from her middle name and the other band members’ initials).
Aside from creating music, [name_f]Alice[/name_f] works at an ice cream shop, hangs out with her aunt, babysits her cousins, and takes a few classes at a nearby university (at a very discounted price since her mother is the Dean).

[name_u]Bowie[/name_u] [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] Retallick (12, almost 13) is the eldest of Alice’s 4 cousins. She says she doesn’t need babysitting and sometimes just wanders off to meet her friends (which is why her mom worries sick about her) but she is glad to have her Mom Sway and her friends. She loves sewing and wishes to be a fashion designer.

[name_f]Demi[/name_f] [name_f]Jocelynn[/name_f] Retallick (2, almost 3) is the youngest of Alice’s four cousins. [name_f]Demi[/name_f] is a little trouble maker and is never up to any good. She loves playing outside and loves finding little bugs, especially ladybirds.
Unlike her sister, [name_f]Demi[/name_f] loves when her cousin comes to babysit, especially when she brings ice cream from her job.

George Ivan Retallick (5) & Wallace Rueben Retallick (5) are Demi’s and Bowie’s brothers. Wallace loves going by Wally to fit in with his sister’s names, but George is adamant that he is George only, not Georgie.
They just started kindergarten, and they agreed with their mom Sway’s idea to have them go to separate classrooms so they can socialize with other kids and be seen/treated more easily as individuals, not just twins. Wally tends to make friends with everybody, while George keeps just a couple people close. Both of their teachers get a kick out of how excited George and Wally are when they see each other in the hallway or at the end of the day; they always grin from ear to ear and run to give each other a hug.
At the moment, George says that he’s going to become an entomologist with Demi, and he loves helping her collect bugs and learn about them online/with encyclopedias. Wally has tons of ideas right now (with rockets, dinosaurs, or mummies), but whatever he does, he says he’s going to be a gazillionaire.

[name_f]Eileen[/name_f] Santos-Marshall (25) is Wallace’s teaching assistant. She thinks [name_u]Wallace[/name_u] is a lot like her younger brother and when she has met [name_u]George[/name_u] she says it reminds her of her elder sister. [name_f]Eileen[/name_f] is middle child so she is a peacemaker. She works well in a team and is sociable and prefers to hang with her friends or her significant other than with her complicated family. She is trustworthy and mature.
She has also wanted to be a teacher of some kind, and when she is older she would love to be a lecturer of particle physics, her speciality, in a university. She currently works on [name_f]Monday[/name_f] to [name_m]Thursday[/name_m] in Wallace’s class and on Fridays and on Saturdays she works at a café called Café Encantadora which honours her Brazilian heritage and her American heritage. At a teaching course in Virgiana, a neighbouring state she met her best friend [name_u]Alex[/name_u] who came out to her a gender neutral a couple of months after the course, and they were doubting her future in teaching as they thought kids would get confused, or make fun of them but actually, they are one of the favourite teachers in their high school due to their laid back nature and sarcastic way of telling students off.
[name_f]Eileen[/name_f] owns a cat, something she has wanted for ages but couldn’t seeing as her ex-roomate had an allergy to cats and dogs, so she settled for a hamster but she adopted a cat, or kitten rather and the cat lives with her and her SO

[name_f]Georgina[/name_f] [name_f]Estella[/name_f] [name_u]Livingston[/name_u] (24) is Eileen’s girlfriend, who is studying marine biology. [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] is an only child from a wealthy lawyer family, but a few years ago when she announced that she was going to study marine biology instead of law, [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] realized that her family wasn’t the healthiest and decided to cut them out of her life.
Georgina’s passion is the ocean and you will always find her near water. Wheater it is studying for her major or water sports such as surfing, swimming and scuba diving. Name a water sport and [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] will probably love it.
She and [name_f]Eileen[/name_f] actually met at a beach when they were both still in high school, though not the same one.

[name_f]Nia[/name_f] [name_f]Kaisa[/name_f] [name_u]Corben[/name_u] (23) is a best friend of [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] and friend of [name_f]Alice[/name_f], who is best friends with Nia’s younger sister. She also has a brother who is 23, but slightly younger than she is. The bands of [name_f]Alice[/name_f] and Nia’s younger sister had a friendly Battle of the Bands competition and both are from very talented bands. Nia’s style of music is more upbeat but she loves the meanings behind the bands and always goes to the gigs to watch them perform. [name_f]Nia[/name_f] loves the ocean as well and during her high school years, she was the leader of a school club about protecting ocean life called “Socean”, a portmanteau of “social” and “ocean”, where the members socialise and bond together while helping protect ocean life. This is where she first met [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] and the two sometimes wear matching white button-ups. Even after she graduated, the club is still going on at her high school. She lives on the same street with the gang that manipulated [name_m]Luis[/name_m] and never felt safe there so she goes to the beach to escape and uses the ocean to find herself peace.
Most of the people in the club during her high school years have moved away or lost touch with her but still retain their love for the ocean. [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] was also a club member and was still in touch with [name_f]Nia[/name_f], retaining their close bond. She and [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m], the co-leader at the time, were also very close friends since age 8 and she was distraught over his death by an unknown hit-and-run driver in 2017. She is interested in law because she wants justice for her late friend and she wants the gang to go to jail but knows [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] has a toxic estranged lawyer family and never brings up law in front of her. Deep down, [name_f]Nia[/name_f] doesn’t want a career in law because she too would rather be a marine biologist and knows some lawyers are shady. Georgina’s lawyer family doesn’t like her and at one point blamed her for “ruining their daughter” despite [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] loving the ocean before meeting [name_f]Nia[/name_f]. [name_f]Nia[/name_f] and her younger sister sometimes get judged by people because [name_f]Nia[/name_f] is an outgoing beach activist and her sister is an introverted gothic musician, but despite being so different, they will always be close as sisters.

She is not the youngest of the family, and she has 2 younger adopted brothers and they have an elder foster sister. [name_f]Zoey[/name_f] and [name_f]Nia[/name_f] are both biological siblings but they were adopted by their parents. [name_f]Zoey[/name_f] is in a band with her boy best friend, his ex-girlfriend and her sister. She loves her heavy metal band but her parents don’t, seeing as they practice in the basement and make quite a racket. She wants to work in the music industry, but is not sure what she wants to do specifically. She likes drawing and doing peoples makeup, but her main hobby is her band. She is pansexual and single, but has a crush.

She and [name_f]Zoey[/name_f] get along best as band mates because they are both very artistic and passionate. She finds [name_f]Zoey[/name_f] to be a good friend to lean on whenever her sister and her sister’s ex squabble but also respects that her sister and sister’s ex are still mostly friendly and mature. Judith is actually quite a party animal and is considered a “perky goth” for being a happy and chill personality and still having a dark Gothic ethereal aesthetic. She loves when the heavy metal band gets loud no matter what others think.

Roona [name_f]Gillian[/name_f] [name_m]Marque[/name_m] (19) is Judith’s sister (technically half-sister, but it’s the same thing to them). Roona is fluent in both ASL and BSL, since her mom (Judith’s step mom) is from [name_u]London[/name_u], and they’re both deaf. She wears headphones when she’s out in public so that people are more understanding about her not being able to hear them, a trick her mother taught her.
Roona plays the drums for the heavy metal band and loves it, even when it gets complicated sometimes because her ex is there. She truly does want to be friends with him, but she can’t deny that she still has feelings for him.

[name_u]William[/name_u] ’ [name_u]Billy[/name_u] ’ [name_u]Charles[/name_u] Matherson (20) is Roona’s ex and Zoey’s closest male friend. [name_u]Billy[/name_u] and Roona’s relationship broke down due to his day job as an electrician meaning he was constantly away, working for his older brother and stepdad’s business, meaning he felt an undeniable loyalty to them which led to him somewhat neglecting time with Roona instead. Although music is his passion and he wants nothing more than to see the band - Through The Eclipse - find true success now they’ve got a modest following, [name_u]Billy[/name_u] can’t deny the cynic in him that insists he needs a backup plan, and the family business has proved perfect for this; even if everyone who knows the family loves joking about how he and his brother couldn’t be any more different if they tried.
In spite of not being biologically related, [name_u]Billy[/name_u] and his stepdad - [name_u]John[/name_u] - have a very strong bond, viewing one another as blood family due to [name_u]Billy[/name_u] and his brother’s birth father abandoning their mother before he was even born after racking up a massive gambling debt and taking out loans he couldn’t pay back. He has a niece born through his brother who he’s incredibly close to and who thinks his lead guitar skills are amazing, wanting to be taught (something [name_u]Billy[/name_u] finds incredibly flattering and is also happy to comply with once she’s a little older). Through [name_u]John[/name_u], [name_u]Billy[/name_u] also has a stepsister who he’s good friends with, and she helped him learn ASL when he first became interested in Roona - still keeping up the practice. Deep down he knows his own feelings have gone away but feels unless something changes, a committed relationship won’t work for the two of them.

Maturity warning: Effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
[name_f]Tilda[/name_f] [name_f]Urmi[/name_f] Matherson (3) is the niece of [name_m]Billy[/name_m]. Her mother and father are no longer together, splitting a few months after her birth due to irreconcilable differences, and her mother moved back to her native country Estonia. 
At the time Tilda’s mother broke up with Billy’s brother and moved back, the pandemic had not yet started and the split couple intended to have [name_f]Tilda[/name_f] raised in the neighbourhood with her father and her mother would fly to pick her up and take her to Estonia over the summers. However given the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, [name_f]Tilda[/name_f] could not fly back to Estonia over the summers, much to her mother’s dismay. [name_f]Tilda[/name_f] and her mother have only been able to communicate via video chat, at times where it would be convenient for both time zones. Recently an unvaccinated member of Tilda’s maternal family spread the virus to Tilda’s mother. While Tilda’s mother is vaccinated, she is immunity-compromised and currently in the hospital. The Mathersons do not want Tilda’s childhood to be ruined by COVID-19 any more than it already is, so they let her spend as much time with the Mathersons as much as she can, [name_u]Billy[/name_u] letting her in on hearing his music, in which she loves Billy’s guitar skills. [name_f]Tilda[/name_f] is also learning ASL from Billy’s stepsister because the family wants her to learn this skill young. [name_f]Tilda[/name_f] has met her paternal grandmother and [name_m]John[/name_m] but has never met her paternal grandfather due to the family believing his gambling and abandonment is a bad influence.

Agnesia ‘Aggie’ [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] Sepp-Tamm (33) is Tilda’s mother with covid and she is recently recovering from
cancer which compromises her immune system so she is ill. The breakup was hard and she is struggling with depression.

[name_m]Andrew[/name_m] ’ [name_u]Drew[/name_u] ’ [name_m]Peter[/name_m] Matherson (28) is Tilda’s father and Aggie’s ex. Although he’s seen as boring by some people in comparison to his brother, [name_u]Drew[/name_u] has nothing but love for [name_u]Billy[/name_u] and they’re very close; having become even more tight knit following the breakup [name_u]Drew[/name_u] and [name_f]Aggie[/name_f] went through. Part of [name_u]Drew[/name_u] knows the age gap placed a pressure on their shoulders as a couple - with a lot of people feeling they were too different when it came to their stages in life, maturity and personal goals - but the constant travelling that encompassed Drew’s job led to a lot of fighting; which unfortunately worsened when [name_f]Tilda[/name_f] was conceived, and [name_u]Drew[/name_u] was determined to work more so they were financially stable for their daugghter.
He has no ill-will towards [name_f]Aggie[/name_f] now he’s had time to cool off and rethink but admits he wasn’t perfect in the aftermath, especially when there were allegations of cheating thanks to all the time he spent away. [name_u]Drew[/name_u] never wanted to be with anyone but [name_f]Aggie[/name_f] during this time and never strayed outside of their relationship, but currently is in a difficult position as he began seeing someone new a couple months before the pandemic started, and this relationship continued via vidchatting - with [name_u]Drew[/name_u] and his girlfriend now feeling ready to have a trial period of her moving in. Due to [name_f]Aggie[/name_f] being so unwell though, Drew’s struggling to break the news to her as he knows it’ll be a devastating blow, finally confirming there isn’t a chance of them getting back together - a position he hates but knows he has to be firm about for both of their sakes, never mind Tilda’s.

Ari Valentine Kolesnik (4 ½) is a frequent visitor at the hospital where Aggie is receiving care. That is because Ari’s brother Eduk is a long-term patient there with cystic fibrosis. Ari likes to go on rounds on all the hospital floors to visit people who look like they need a pick-me-up, and Aggie is one of those people. During the first few days of Aggie’s hospitalization for COVID, Ari also got to meet Drew and Tilda through a Zoom call, and Ari considers them all very dear friends. Now they talk on Zoom every other day.
Ari uses he/she/they pronouns and doesn’t usually express a preference. Their parents have left it up to them, since Ari was born intersex, and they didn’t want Ari to feel forced into any specific gender roles. Because of this, Ari has a natural knack for caring about others deeply, and encouraging them to be themselves, and questioning why someone is told they can’t do something. She says anyone can be anything. He says that we are all a little bit like superheroes. They say the world is a better place when it’s big enough for everyone.
