Create a Family With a Twist

Notice about the next character: She is the driver who killed [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m] and is very unlikable. In addition to her crimes, some maturity warnings for water pollution, sea animal cruelty, and elitism.

[name_f]Angelyn[/name_f] [name_u]Bristol[/name_u] [name_m]Smith[/name_m] (23) is the criminal charged with the 20 November 2017 hit-and-run. She is the maternal cousin of the infamous Derosa-Smith brothers, however she is not Italian and is mostly American. [name_f]Angelyn[/name_f] was quite elitist and pro-corporations. She loved Kent’s coffee but often pretended to her family and friends that she hated it because his business was “not big enough” for her. Her mother and father own a big oil company which attracted controversy in 2007 when they caused a massive oil spill into the ocean which polluted the water and harmed the ocean life. The oil spill was rampant on the news which provoked a then-8-year-old [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m] and his friend [name_f]Nia[/name_f] to care more about the oceans. [name_f]Angelyn[/name_f], who attended the same school as them, was constantly asked “Why does your family’s company harm the ocean?!” and was greatly disliked by both of them.

Years passed and her parents’ company was past the controversy and were back to being successful although neither the Flannigans nor the Corbens ever purchased their gas there. When [name_f]Angelyn[/name_f] was in high school, she did not attend the same high school as [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m] and [name_f]Nia[/name_f], instead studying at an elite private school and learned to speak French there. [name_f]Nia[/name_f] was the President of her high school’s club Socean and [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m] was Vice President and both of them founded the club. They also became good friends with [name_f]Georgina[/name_f], who was an expert at ocean sports and wanted to be in marine biology as well. While the club was peacefully protesting against SeaWorld for its mistreatment of orcas in captivity, [name_f]Angelyn[/name_f] asked [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m] and [name_f]Nia[/name_f] if they still hated her over the 2007 controversy. They said they were sorry for being rude to her because she was only 8 years old just like they were and didn’t do anything wrong and that they don’t hate her but they did say they still oppose her parents’ oil company and if she’s not going to help with their protest, she needs to leave. Out of spite she said, “You’re just mad that their company and SeaWorld are successful,” before leaving. [name_f]Georgina[/name_f], having lived with a toxic family and was used to toxic people, said to the other club members that there’s no point in trying to help [name_f]Angelyn[/name_f], she’s elitist and doesn’t seem to have any remorse over her parents’ oil controversy.

When [name_f]Angelyn[/name_f] was in her first year of college, she was in a special expensive college for the privileged. [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m] was in a college in the same city that was not like Angelyn’s but he didn’t mind because this was his dream college for studying for marine biology. The two never spoke to each other in person and never posted anything relating to each other online, although [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m] “liked“ several posts condemning oil companies’ impacts on the ocean. The weekend before the fatal hit-and-run, [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m] was at a peaceful protest about reducing plastic waste which [name_f]Angelyn[/name_f] didn’t know because she and her college sorority were partying that weekend. The Monday after the events, [name_f]Angelyn[/name_f] was driving her white Porsche and wasn’t paying attention to the road from her exhaustion when she got a text from her father saying the family oil company was the top company in the region. She texted back “Yassss” and at that moment, she ran over [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m] and continued driving. The moment after she hit him, she questioned if anyone saw her and wondered if she should go back and help him. However her exhaustion clouded her judgement and she decided not to go back and kept telling herself that if someone else were to find him in the street, they would be able to rescue him and if he was already dead, then there was nothing she can do so she figured it would be best for her to keep driving away. Going back and admitting would ruin her college success and the rest of her life and wouldn’t help anyone, it would just make her another 18-year-old that day who wouldn’t have a bright future anymore. That evening on the news, she learned he really did pass away and that the police were investigating who could have done it. This is also when she realised who her victim was and that he was once on bad terms with her.

She couldn’t get over the fact her reckless driving actually killed someone and feared for the next few days whether she should come forward. But she knew her family had just gotten really successful as a company and she knew they would be seriously hated and boycotted by everyone if they knew the daughter of the giant oil company killed an ocean conservation activist. That Thursday was Thanksgiving and [name_f]Angelyn[/name_f] said at the dinner table, “I’m really thankful for all of you and am proud to have such successful parents. If I ever did anything horrible that could potentially ruin your business, would you want me to confess?” Her parents, thinking this was a hypothetical question, said, “Unless you were to steal money from our company, there’s no reason why you’d need to confess. You are our daughter and you would never do anything wrong.” [name_f]Angelyn[/name_f] took that advice and made the decision not to confess. [name_f]Angelyn[/name_f] also apologised to the Flannigans but never said why she was apologising so they assumed she was sorry for being rude to Socean at the SeaWorld protest years earlier and they forgave her. [name_f]Angelyn[/name_f] was very paranoid those next few months and never drove that Porsche, keeping it in the garage because she was afraid someone would identify it. She often rode public transit instead which she used to never do because it was “for poor people”. She would always tell her parents she was filling her car up at gas stations with their gas anyway because she used to always do that and felt they would be suspicious of her if she stopped using the family’s gas. Two years later, she realised there was no way she would continue not driving her car because there were times she would be better off with the car than public transit, so she got a paint job on her car and got it painted red just in case anyone saw her white car driving away at the scene.

Everything from there felt like a breeze. She stopped worrying so much about the hit-and-run and eerily started living a normal life again. She spent time with her family and friends and had a good time. She never associated with friends or relatives of [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m] but no one really noticed considering she never associated with them before the crime. She even had a side-gig as a beauty influencer where she posted her reviews of makeup products while doing her makeup. Although her last name was [name_m]Smith[/name_m], she was known to her viewers as [name_f]Angelyn[/name_f] [name_m]Barbeau[/name_m] because she had taken French and thought people would find it sounding more attractive even though she wasn’t actually French. She said in her videos she was French-Canadian in case anyone would ask her why she never seems to know that much about France. As an influencer, she basically lived in her own world and didn’t let anything outside her internet fame affect her. Some people said that the main reason why she was famous was because of her family’s success and that their fame helped her more than hers helped them but she often responded with “You don’t know how much I’m willing to risk to keep their business thriving.”

Only recently, she caused another car accident with her Porsche while speeding to make it to an influencers’ event. She was pulled over and one of the cops noticed her car had the same licence plate as the car involved in the 2017 hit-and-run. She insisted it was a mistake and her car was not even the same colour as the car involved. The person who was hired to paint her car red was a neighbour of [name_m]Kent[/name_m] Flannigan and confirmed that he was paid by her to paint her car and had an old record of her as a customer. Her phone was searched and the “Yassss” text she sent was sent at the the time of the crash, adding more charges against her. While her browsing history from years ago was automatically removed, they Googled the name of the car painting company and under the first search result it said “This page was last visited on 1 December 2019”, the date she got it painted. Once evidence was being discovered to convict her, the family’s big oil company was plummeting in profit and there were several one-star reviews saying stuff like: “You really haven’t stopped being reckless, first the oil spill and now this,” “How come she didn’t come forward? Did the owners of this company tell her not to?”, and “Save the Ocean - Boycott this Brand!” Ozzy’s mother called her out saying, “She is not a true French-Canadian. She does not get to pose as my culture for internet likes while hiding that she killed my son.” [name_m]Kent[/name_m] knows her family wasn’t involved in the hit-and-run but doesn’t want to see them and until further notice, has banned them from his coffee shops. [name_m]Julian[/name_m] and [name_m]Marcos[/name_m] love the coffee and hate [name_f]Angelyn[/name_f] for getting them banned. Meanwhile several ocean conservation charities had an increase in donations alongside many LGBTQIA+ charities that [name_m]Kent[/name_m] supported. Some people on the prosecution side of the trial worried that [name_f]Angelyn[/name_f] was from a rich family and could use her family’s profit to manipulate the justice system into letting her off easy. However both her parents had told her that she had ruined their company because people were falsely believing they were involved in the crime and that they will not give her any handouts. They even snarked at her “Maybe you should have stolen money from the company after all. It would have benefited you.” In a desperate attempt for funds, she posted online, “Hello fans! Please donate to ensure my innocence so I can continue to make amazing videos!” Nobody donated to her and instead wrote “Girl you’re canceled,” “When they find you guilty and you’re locked away, consider this #AngelynBarbeauIsOverParty,” “What kind of monster tries to get famous while someone else is dead and his family is broken?” and the top comment by Ozzy’s cousin [name_u]Nick[/name_u], “I knew you’d get caught one day. If you’re found innocent or get a light trial, we’re still going to make sure you never go back to normal life. You’re not [name_f]Angelyn[/name_f] [name_m]Barbeau[/name_m] the influencer, you’re [name_f]Angelyn[/name_f] [name_m]Smith[/name_m] the guilty.”
