Silja Brigit Árnadóttir (22) is another longterm friend of Haneul and Cassidy, although she’s a little closer to the former. Working in the fashion industry, Silja’s a styling assistant to an established designer who gets outfits ready for shoots, and is absolutely in her element doing this. She has a good relationship with the models she works with and is befriending a few of them, but always makes sure she isn’t neglecting Haneul and Cassidy thanks to the longstanding connection the three have shared. Silja met them after being accepted on an exchange scholarship programme when she was fifteen, coming over from Kópavogur to study as an international student as part of a new agreement their high school had in place with an adjacent Icelandic one. She’s usually flitting between the two countries as her older sister welcomed her first child 6 months ago and Silja absolutely adores her nephew, who she’s constantly showing pictures of and sharing stories about with Cassidy and Haneul. In the wake of the tragedy she took it upon herself to spend time with the couple one-on-one so they could open up, and this is how Haneul has come to confide in her.
Possessing a driven spirit coupled with a mostly optimistic attitude, Silja considers it a responsibility to hype up her friends and help them see their own talents. She’s very supportive of Haneul’s music and thinks her tribute to Duncan is incredibly thoughtful - as admittedly, he and Silja were more friendly acquaintances than actual friends themselves - and has helped Cassidy in accessing therapy as she knows it’s a big ask of Hanuel, never mind what her friends’ family are going through. Silja lost her father when she was six but considers this very different as he was terminally ill, and there was time for her and her siblings to prepare for mourning, while Duncan’s family had to go through a tremendous shock. Her older brother works as a therapist, although he specialises in working with children, and has given her some advice to pass onto the Reed and Lim families. As the baby of her own sibset, Silja attributes her wild energy to the brunt of responsibilities falling on her siblings shoulders - but she’ll also credit them, especially as her brother is planning his wedding right now and the amount of detail terrifies her. She herself is asexual and while not opposed to dating, feels her career and family are more important now than looking for a partner, never mind the friends who mean the world to her. Get her a good coffee though and you’ve earned her loyalty for life as caffeine is her greatest weakness.
