Phillip " Flint " Yordan Rashkov (28), known by his stagename Rash, is a childhood friend of Lorrie. The pair bonded thanks to being children from families with close ties to their cultural heritages, although Flint’s parents are Bulgarian-American, opposed to Romanian, and were at a minority in the neighbourhood they grew up in, prompting to close associations. For Flint this was especially important as there’s sizeable age gaps between he and his two siblings: his older brother [technically half-brother, born during his dad’s first marriage] is 11 years his senior, while his younger sister is 5 years his junior, something Lorrie related to given how Mara was merely a baby when she bonded with Flint. They were always riding their bikes together and enjoyed exploring a small woodland area close to home - although their parents would only allow this when they were at the nearby park, much to the disappointment of the duo.
Unlike the Coșovei family, Flint’s parents decision to wait between he and his sister’s conceptions was intentional. When Flint was born, his brother struggled a lot with adjusting to a new baby, especially as he hadn’t been happy to gain a stepmother for quite some time. The welcoming of his first younger sibling was a finalising of their dad’s second marriage, and he worried a lot that he’d be sent to live with his mom in Detroit now Flint had arrived. This fear was gradually abated, ending when Flint was 2, but his parents wanted to ensure their eldest was fully comfortable with the new family dynamic before having another baby.
Something that charmed Flint’s mom and dad endlessly is how he hero-worshipped his big brother, always wanting to follow him about until the age of 7, when he decided teenagers were a little too intimidating for his liking. The brothers’ have retained their closeness - in spite of being polar opposites: Flint’s always been a creative spirit, more easygoing and sociable, while his brother’s an introvert who excels at athletics - and he ensures to visit his older sibling often, especially as he now has two nephews. His sister’s absolutely into the humanities and is starting her master’s degree currently, so of course their parents enjoy joking about getting one of each personality type when it comes to their children.
Flint belongs to a folk metal band - Chuma - who Mara has done costume design and styling for recently. The band’s name comes from the Bulgarian mythological figure, at the suggestion of Flint, after a prolonged search for something befitting of their brand, and it also led to his choice of stage name, thanks to the plague connotations to the folklore character. Flint’s one of the two founding members to remain in the group, having created it when he was in his second year of college, and serves as lead guitarist. There were no dramatic reasons behind changes to the line up, merely people pursued different interests or felt other commitments needed to be pursued over music. He frequently tours in Europe, and it isn’t a surprise that 2/5 of his fellow performers are from families with Scandinavian routes, given metals prominence there.
