Her 4 year old cousin was all over her when she was born. She loves to eat and is just the perfect little baby ever and hardly ever cries.
Mafalda " Maddie " Bree Portland (4) is Graham’s daughter and Delilah’s cousin, who’s absolutely delighted to meet her. Similar to her dad, Maddie doesn’t hold herself back when expressing things, ane she commits herself with absolute earnestness to new situations. Currently she’s very proud of how her swimming lessons are coming on, as she’s proven herself to be quite the natural, and of course the mermaid connotations delight her. Maddie’s other favourite thing is climbing, although her parents are cautious, as sometimes this can be impromptu and just about the house with no precautions, however she’s now listening more to them. What Graham and his wife haven’t yet figured out is how to tell Maddie they’re expecting once more, as the influx of questions and hyperactive excitement are going to be coming out in full force!

Like [name_m]Graham[/name_m], the arts are Ettie’s passion and provide her career, but she’s in pottery opposed to performance. With a childhood friend, [name_f]Ettie[/name_f] opened her own studio, which provides multiple activities, including lessons on crafting from scratch or painting afternoons for those who want something more relaxing, and she also sells work on the side. Since having her daughter, this has become more infrequent, but [name_f]Ettie[/name_f] wouldn’t change it for the world, as she not only adores [name_f]Maddie[/name_f], but being a mother in general: it’s something she always hoped for.
Having been named for her grandfather, [name_f]Ettie[/name_f] used to dislike her name, given everyone asked her if she was really a [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] or [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] growing up, however she’s come to embrace it, and decided her daughter needed a similarly unique one when she was born, to help with her sense of individuality. There are several names - male, female, gender neutral - she and [name_m]Graham[/name_m] discussed during her first pregnancy that they’ve decided to consider for their second baby. Ettie’s always encouraging Maddie’s imagination and tends to be the most restrained member of the family, although [name_m]Graham[/name_m] has admitted he hopes their unborn child takes more after her in temperament, otherwise they and [name_f]Maddie[/name_f] could become quite the dynamic duo.

Outside of her work she’s very family oriented, she’s been married for almost ten years and at home she’s got a five year old and a three year old. During both pregnancies she worked right up until she delivered. With her first child she actually started feeling contractions alongside her patient! But she kept things under wraps until she had delivered their baby before calling her husband and checking in as a patient herself. Of course she was a little bit of a drill sergeant in her own delivery room due to her career, but everything went smoothly and she had her first baby in her arms without a hitch.
Her husband is a stay-at-home dad who looks over the kids while managing his custom painting service. His expertise in the medium gave [name_u]Hyacinth[/name_u] and [name_f]Ettie[/name_f] something to talk about whenever she came in for a check up.
The two of them are actually currently trying for another baby, hopefully their last. Though they’ve been experiencing some secondary infertility, infertility after having at least one successful pregnancy, and have been having trouble conceiving. They’re debating trying out some fertility meds but Hyacinth’s cousin used them to get pregnant with her kids and she ended up having multiples! As an OB/GYN she’s seen how scary multiple pregnancies can be. She had a patient who had triplet little girls and went into labor early. Things got a little complicated and one of the babies was born a month and a half before the others. Now they’re all healthy girls, but still it was scary to see. [name_u]Hyacinth[/name_u] is sure she could handle it, if it happened, but still she’d rather avoid putting her health, or her family, at risk.

[name_f]Lilinoe[/name_f] " [name_f]Lily[/name_f] " [name_f]Verena[/name_f] Law-Taran (3) is Hyacinth’s younger child, whose already avid about the natural world. [name_f]Summer[/name_f] and spring are the best times of year as far as Lily’s concerned, which is why she laments being a winter baby, as she’d love nothing more than sunshine and flowers to greet her when she’s celebrating; but her dad’s been getting [name_f]Lily[/name_f] to enjoy [name_u]January[/name_u] more as a month through patience and the help of the greenhouse in their back garden. Lily’s definifely the sort of child who looks up to her older sibling, and they’re typically who she asks complex questions, like why do snakes shed their scales but cats don’t loose all their fur, and if one day humans might ever be able to live on a star instead of a planet.
Her inquisitive nature and love of laughter makes [name_f]Lily[/name_f] a naturally endearing child, in spite of the haphazard way she goes about life, almost always embodying chaos in some capacity, not that it really irritates anyone for how sweet and genuinely thoughtful she is. Lily’s parents attribute her whirlwind manner to her paternal uncle - dad’s younger brother - who has a devil-may-care approach to life and usually is witnessing some sort of sporadic hiccup. It’s unsurprising their kids absolutely adore him though, maybe helped by his decision to remain childless, as it allows them to claim more time and attention for themselves, never mind all the imaginary games they rope him into playing.
[name_m]Talbot[/name_m] ’ [name_u]Olly[/name_u] ’ [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] Law-Taran (5) is Lily’s older brother and the firstborn child of [name_u]Hyacinth[/name_u] and her husband. Like his sister, [name_u]Olly[/name_u] loves the outdoors, although he’s much more easygoing about the fact his birthday’s in autumn. [name_u]Olly[/name_u] can find beauty in all forms of nature, and isn’t someone who does well in the heat - he burns very easily - so he actually prefers cooler months, unlike his sister. This doesn’t mean he ever tires when she’s asking her questions though, even if he can’t always provide answers (and really why can’t cats go bald briefly before regrowing fur? Olly’s very enamored with the idea of getting a sphynx cat). He is a little shy when compared to her, and his friend group is small but already very tight knit, however if you ask [name_u]Olly[/name_u] about building this brings him completely out of his shell. Lego is something he’s very confident at, and he’s always hopeful to impress his parents with what he builds solo.

[name_u]Halen[/name_u] [name_u]Jordan[/name_u] [name_m]Law[/name_m] (36) is [name_u]Olly[/name_u] and Lily’s father and Hyacinth’s husband. He’s a happy custom painter, always calming himself to draw inspiration for his artwork. A common inspiration is love, especially given his near-decade long marriage to [name_u]Hyacinth[/name_u], and his lovely children whom he’s a proud SAHD to, which inspires him to keep going and feel passionate for what he does. [name_u]Halen[/name_u] doesn’t care about fame in the art world but is inspired by those who want to pursue fame in that path. He’s still into those “15 minutes of fame” moments where he can feel special for a short time without feeling forced to stay in the limelight. He’s a soft-spoken individual now but he’s still close with his younger brother despite their very different lifestyles.
What people usually don’t know about him is that he actually used to be hugely into fencing and originally wanted to pursue that as his career. He was in a national tournament at 23 but lost to his opponent. What caused controversy was when his opponent had been on steroids at the time. However Halen’s opponent claimed to have accidentally consumed pork treated with steroids and this is what caused the uproar. [name_u]Halen[/name_u] initially didn’t believe his opponent, but his opponent had proven it after an investigation of where he had obtained the pork. The competition committee had decided that he and [name_u]Halen[/name_u] have another face-off, after the former tests negative. The rematch happened, and once again Halen’s opponent came out victorious. Some people still had negative energy from the controversy regarding Halen’s opponent, but [name_u]Halen[/name_u] himself has stated his opponent won fair and square and he was not robbed of a win. He hopes his opponent is doing well now and has no hard feelings whatsoever, believing his opponent had undeserved hate.
[name_u]Halen[/name_u] loves where he is in his life and find painting to be his true calling. He feels he wouldn’t be nearly as good fencing now as he was 13 years ago and at the time he retired from fencing at age 30, he had ended on a good note. [name_u]Halen[/name_u] is grateful [name_u]Hyacinth[/name_u] is such a great doctor and that she is fine with him as a stay-at-home dad and painter. He’s also closer with [name_f]Ettie[/name_f] and the Portlands because of [name_u]Hyacinth[/name_u], always happy to interact with them as well when he’s around his wife. Despite being at home most of the time, it’s never stopped him from making and being around friends, which everyone knows. He’s also a fan of painting nature, inspired by [name_u]Olly[/name_u] and [name_f]Lily[/name_f], and he enjoys the feeling of which each of the four seasons has to offer. Being born on the first day of spring, [name_u]Halen[/name_u] enjoys the natural beauty of the seasonal change and feels it as way of looking ahead.
Mitsuko [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] Mizunuma (15 months) is [name_u]Halen[/name_u] and Hyacinth’s goddaughter, being the firstborn child of Halen’s former fencing partner. When the steroid scandal happened, said partner was a staunch defender of [name_u]Halen[/name_u], which was a little ironic as the public perception of the duo was that of fierce rivals, when in actuality they’d been friends the whole time and used a competitive atmosphere to encourage progress. Mitsuko’s dad has remained in the fencing world and even competed in the Olympics, which led to starting a family being put on hold by him, as he wanted to reserve as much time as possible for his partner and their children; becoming a professional instructor and coach now he no longer is pursuing competitions on a frequent basis.
A very easygoing infant, Mitsuko laughs often and openly, finding the world a very fun place. She always wants to follow older children about - especially [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_u]Olly[/name_u] - so her mom tends to have to keep an eye on her to ensure she isn’t making a break for freedom if it means getting to see what the big kids are getting up to. These escapades are always in the company of her beloved seal plushy, [name_f]Nara[/name_f], who can always be found at her side. As Mitsuko’s only cousins are on her maternal side, living in Sendai where her mom’s family are based, it’s obvious the Law-Taran siblings are surrogates, not that it diminishes the little girl’s excitement whenever a visit happens from her mom’s brother and his family.
While the potential for Mrs. [name_u]Van[/name_u] Lenner to be a controlling stage mother was definitely a looming possibility, she always encouraged her daughter to try her best but was always there to reassure her to never put her achievements over the rest of her life. Though she was of course extremely excited when [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] followed in her footsteps as a fencer. She recently went through college on a fencing scholarship and has graduated with a degree in nutrition. Currently she has no plans to compete now that she’s out of college, though she wants to keep fencing as a hobby while she begins getting into the work force.
It’s been a bit hard to find a job that checks off all her boxes for what she wants so she’s been picking up some odd jobs lately. Most recently she’s been working at a local renaissance faire where she teaches ‘knights-in-training’ some basic moves. As silly as it seems she’s met some of her now closest friends and even went on a few dates with one of the riders who does the joust at the faire, however they’ve since realized that they’re better off as friends instead of a couple.

[name_u]Aeko[/name_u] Mizununa (26) is Heidi’s new co-worker at the Renaissance faire. She’s recently hired, so she’s just learning the ropes on her new workplace. She and [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] have talked before, since she’s Mitsuko’s paternal aunt and in the ‘Christmas [name_m]Card[/name_m] Contact’. Like her brother, she’s a talented fencer but she’s never been in the Olympics, although she’s competed in championships leading up to it. Lately she hasn’t been as immersed as she used to be and she doesn’t know what she’s planning later. People ask her why she’s taking a break, being an athlete in her mid-20s in her prime, but she focuses on what makes her happy for the time being.
Unlike Mitsuko’s maternal side, [name_u]Aeko[/name_u] doesn’t have children. She’s had two former boyfriends, neither of whom produced children. Her first boyfriend was shortly after graduating high school. The relationship lasted a few months until she realised how controlling he was. He would try to force ultimatums on her, making her decide between “him and fencing”, and demeaned her by claiming she is a “wannabe of her brother and will never have success.” [name_u]Aeko[/name_u] left this relationship after he stated this about her but had lingering doubts about her athletic career. She worried if taking a break would “prove he was right” about her being unsuccessful so she trained vigorously and pushed herself, sometimes too far. Her other boyfriend was a nice man who helped her get through the bitter anguish her ex gave her. He was a free spirit and often did a lot of world travel given his career in helping advertise world sporting events. The two were a sweet pair but amicably broke up because they were unable to have enough time with each other due to the travels. A year after the split, he died in sudden and unlucky circumstances, which [name_u]Aeko[/name_u] mourned him a lot over. She felt weird mourning someone she wasn’t together with, but she had been on friendly terms with him regardless. She missed him and felt wrong knowing they’d never see one another again. She hasn’t pursued anyone else since the months after the passing but she has gained more self-respect and didn’t care how her first ex felt about her. She feels just as awesome working for the Renaissance faire as she does fencing professionally.
She and her brother are close despite their age difference and she loves her niece Mitsuko. She has a Snapchat streak with her brother that she doesn’t want to end and she takes better care of that than she’ll admit. She is proud of her brother hanging in there despite the “Steroid Scandal” and is proud that he’s stayed in fencing and became an Olympian. She worried he’d leave his career after the scandal but he has more resilience than anyone she’s ever known and his perseverance is something she’s proud of. [name_u]Aeko[/name_u] and Mitsuko are close and she loves her adorable niece, bonding over their mutual love for seals. [name_u]Aeko[/name_u] likes she and her brother’s mutual interest in fencing and it’s made her feel less like an “awkward newbie” working in the Renaissance faire. She’s gotten to know some of Heidi’s friends from the faire and while she’s not as close with anyone as [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] is, still being newly hired and all, she’s getting along great and is seeing potential friendships for her. Whatever [name_u]Aeko[/name_u] plans to do with the rest of her life is her decision and she doesn’t need anyone’s approval for how she’s going to succeed.
[name_f]Naoko[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [Kobayashi] Mizunuma (34) is Aeko’s sister-in-law and Mitsuko’s mother, whose name influenced that of her daughters’. While proud of their heritage, Naoko’s parents - second generation immigrants - wanted her to have a greater choice about her identity, leading to her and her sister both having middle names they could opt to use instead of their firsts. While [name_f]Naoko[/name_f] never felt an urge to go by [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], she appreciated their sentiment, and her love of flowers led to [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] being chosen for her own daughter. Gardening’s one of her favourite pastimes while enjoying time off work, having an allotment plot as well as taking excellent care of the hanging baskets and window boxes lining the family apartment, as well as having numerous house plants about the home she tends to almost as devotedly as how she parents her daughter. Although having a large space to embrace nature would be amazing for [name_f]Naoko[/name_f], she also loves their flat, and it’s the best place for the family: situated in reasonable distance from both she and her husband’s jobs, as well as being spacious and airy.
A frequent joke she weather’s is the fact [name_f]Naoko[/name_f] isn’t someone with much athletic interest. She goes running sometimes, and has practiced yoga since giving birth - as it means she can keep an eye on Mitsuko, if she begins trying to scale the wardrobes or storage containers - but really prefers relaxing hobbies where she can curl up and just chill out. [name_f]Naoko[/name_f] has a beanbag in the apartment that’s firmly her’s, having been the first gift her husband got her for [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] once they started dating: the perfect place for her to enjoy a book and get some relaxation. At the moment, playing games with Mitsuko and witnessing her daughters’ joy is the absolute highlight of Naoko’s day though, and she never shies away from telling people of this - being the kind of person very open about what’s important to her, and the things that make her happiest.
Currently on maternity leave from her job as a special education teacher, [name_f]Naoko[/name_f] knows both JSL and ASL - the latter having been learned when she started pursuing her career, and the former was something she taught herself thanks to wanting to further incorporate her cultural heritage into her career. She’s very active promoting acceptance and the embrace of people’s differences, having recommended specific books at the club for first time mother’s she atrends, in order to promote understanding and awareness amongst her peers. Naoko’s going to be moving to a part-time role at the school where she works upon returning, thanks to wanting to modify her schedule around taking care of Mitsuko. When she has to work, she’s made arrangements with [name_u]Aeko[/name_u] and her parents so her daughters’ always in the company of family: something very important to [name_f]Naoko[/name_f], sentimental as she calls herself. Her sister’s currently working in another state, which is why she’s not an immediate choice, but has plans on moving back, and concealing her excitement isn’t a consideration for [name_f]Naoko[/name_f].
[name_f]Jasmine[/name_f] " [name_u]Jazz[/name_u] " [name_f]Carlie[/name_f] Delawise, nee [name_m]Priest[/name_m] (34) is Naoko’s best friend, who’s 8 months pregnant with her second child, and has served as a source of advice both before and after Mitsuko arrived. She runs her own home interior shop, where a lot of the items are made by local trades people, although gardening is truly Jazz’s passion, which is how she and [name_f]Naoko[/name_f] became good friends in high school, as they took tending to the roof garden very seriously.
While [name_f]Naoko[/name_f] insists [name_u]Jazz[/name_u] has the right temperament to be a teacher - pretty much nothing can cause her to lose her cool, unless someone she loves is dragged into things - she’s steered clear of that: so many children might spoil how much she loves being a mom after all! The Delawise’s have always planned on having a big family, which they joke is a product of them both being only children who were always asking for a baby from their parents. Jazz’s wife is a trans woman who opted to have her sperm frozen before, so both their 5-year-old and unborn baby are biologically both parents, but they’re hoping to adopt their next child.
Delawise is actually a combo surname of both of their mother’s - Jazzs’ mom’s maiden name is Glenwise - as they wanted something totally new to symbolise the start of their own family…and [name_m]Priest[/name_m] just felt like it was attracting bigoted people for [name_u]Jazz[/name_u] in all honesty. It doesn’t mean she doesn’t cherish her dad though, who has no issue with his daughter’s decision whatsoever, and there’s regular communes between [name_u]Jazz[/name_u], her wife and both sets of grandparents to make sure their 5 year old is appropriately spoiled!

I’m a copycat 
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f] is very strong-willed and stubborn. On her first day of kindergarten this year, a little boy made fun of her for having two moms, and [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] went wild on him! It ended up with [name_u]Jazz[/name_u], and her wife, [name_u]Rylie[/name_u], having to come to the school when she got punished. While [name_u]Jazz[/name_u] and [name_u]Rylie[/name_u] put on a “we’re-so-sorry-Chloe-will-get-a-huge-punishment” face, the second they got home they praised [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] for sticking up for herself. Of course, they did tell her not to bite or kick (or any other violence) to cope in the future.
Since that day, [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] has made many friends. With her funny personality, she’s created a big group of kind friends. One of her favorites, [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], has become a quick regular in the Delawise home. [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] is constantly inviting [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] over and her moms adore the sweet little girl. [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] also has a crush on one of her friends, [name_u]Hudson[/name_u], and [name_u]Jazz[/name_u] and [name_u]Rylie[/name_u] find it charming and adorable, if a little too soon lol. Upon [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] getting in the fight with the little boy who bullied her for having two moms, [name_f]Eugenie[/name_f] was someone who stood by [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] during the meeting with the school board. She agreed that [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] should learn more healthier ways to cope with her emotions. But she also more importantly believed that they should be teaching the young boy not to bully other children, and she has been working with all her students in her classroom to create a safer and more accepting environment. She tries to incorporate age-appropriate lessons on diversity into her classes. Some parents dislike this, claiming “they are too young!” But Eugenie’s lessons are all innocent and are not “exploitative” or “brainwashing” in the slightest, in contrast to what some parents and more conservative teachers say.
Before [name_f]Eugenie[/name_f] became a teacher, she was a model. She had a short time on a reality show called “Model USA” where she was eliminated second, the judges believing her presence was not as good as some of the other girls on the show. While she was on the show, she did not have a good reputation among the other aspiring models, but she was loved by the audience. The other contestants on the show would bully her behind the set for being “bigger” and “clunkier” than them, causing Eugenie’s once high confidence to plummet. In the end, [name_f]Eugenie[/name_f] was glad she was eliminated. She didn’t truly think she had what it took to be a top model, after all. Not because she was “big” or “clunky”, but because teaching is her passion. And she is happier with where her life is now.
[name_f]Eugenie[/name_f] has many friends who she gets along well with. One of those friends is another girl from the show “Model USA”, who was her one defender when the other girls would gang up on her behind the scenes. This girl ended up going farther than [name_f]Eugenie[/name_f], being eliminated sixth. Like [name_f]Eugenie[/name_f], this girl now also works an entirely separate job away from modeling. [name_f]Eugenie[/name_f] still holds some anger for all that has happened and has vowed to never get back into modeling. She realized it’s just for her.
At her job, [name_f]Eugenie[/name_f] works hard to meet each and every one of her student’s needs and get to where they are at. [name_m]Even[/name_m] the kids where some would say they’re just not worth it, she tries to meet them where they are and works to understand them. All her students love her, including the “bad” kids. Some older kids who have since left her class still stop by to talk to her at the end of day. Eugenie’s happy with her life now, but she still feels some lingering resentment and insecurity about herself due to the pressure of the reality show, but she’s working on it.

[name_u]Rylie[/name_u] [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] [Reese] Delawise (33) is Chloe’s other mom who’s befriended [name_f]Eugenie[/name_f] in the aftermath of the fight. The fact her mama has pink hair is absolutely the most amazing thing in Chloe’s eyes, and she’s the main influence as to why Rylie’s kept her hair this way for three years - not to mention her recognition that she really does suit the colour. Rylie’s job, as a freelance violon teacher and orchestra member, thankfully means this expression has never been an issue; hell she’s even inspired some of her students to become more experimental in their physical appearances!
She can also play piano and the harp, but the first instrument she ever played really does have her heart, and of course, Rylie’s made it clear should [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] want to explore music she’ll be entirely supportive. A hobby requiring concentration might also be a good thing once Chloe’s younger sibling arrives and [name_u]Jazz[/name_u] and [name_u]Rylie[/name_u] will have to ensure the firstborn’s excitable nature doesn’t set off their secind child at 2am…
Coming out as trans was a difficult journey for [name_u]Rylie[/name_u]. It wasn’t her parents that were the issue, however paternal grandparents and extended family have always held very conservative beliefs, and she long suspected there were bigoted views twined with these political leanings. Upon beginning her open transition - when she was 19 - [name_u]Rylie[/name_u] found a lot of the transphobia was more passive aggressive than upfront: namely she wasn’t spoken of by some relatives, and other’s would use her dead name [her full name, she’s always been Rylie], in spite of her and her parents asking them not to. Letting go of these relationships was tough, however [name_u]Rylie[/name_u] knew things wouldn’t magically improve, and her own confidence, well-being and emotional security were more important, something her dad, aunt [his sister] and cousins completely supported.
A little ironically, [name_u]Rylie[/name_u] also knew someone who starred on an earlier season of Model Usa. It was a college friend of her’s, who actually was friends with [name_u]Jazz[/name_u] before she and [name_u]Rylie[/name_u] became a couple, and the impact the toxic environment had was upsetting for everyone who knew and cared about her. The intense pressure, encouragement of conflict between contestants and unreasonable, fabricated situations were obviously just for TV benefit, but knowing the show was thankfully pulled after 3 seasons is some consolation for Rylie’s friend.

Warning for jail and conjugal visits (Yes this is legal in Los [name_u]Angeles[/name_u]. No, this isn’t legal everywhere).
[name_f]Kinley[/name_f] [name_f]Tara[/name_f] [name_u]Porter[/name_u] (29) is a composer and member of the orchestra who pretty much adores the “Rylie style”, even getting a cherry version of Rylie’s fab strawberry dress! She’s heard about some of the controversy with Rylie’s transphobic family members and she’s glad [name_u]Rylie[/name_u] cut them out for her own benefit. She’s currently on great terms with one of Rylie’s cousins and they are really good friends, which helped [name_f]Kinley[/name_f] get closer to [name_u]Rylie[/name_u]. Like her siblings [name_m]Graham[/name_m] and [name_u]Hunter[/name_u], [name_u]Rylie[/name_u] is also a mother although there’s something about her son. Her son [name_u]Hudson[/name_u], is the little boy whom [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] has a puppy-love for. She laughs, finding this cute. Some people wonder where the father of [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] is, a question [name_f]Kinley[/name_f] gets far too often, and it hurts for her to say he’s in jail. She knows he’s a good person and his crimes were never violent, but she knows how much her son is waiting for his term to end. Quite literally, he’s counting down the days. He knows his father has missed a lot of important moments but he knows his father will be home by next year, calling next year “the best year ever” even though it hasn’t happened yet. [name_f]Kinley[/name_f] is equally excited but tells her son to not put too much excitement into something that hasn’t happened yet. She doesn’t want him to get too impatient next year given how prison can be tough. Secretly neither of them know this, but he’s been showing a lot of good behaviour in jail and while he may not be coming home today, he has a good chance of doing so within this year, even if it’s very late 2023.
[name_f]Kinley[/name_f] has even had conjugal visits with him in jail to give him a sense of familiarity with her and she sends him mail often. [name_f]Every[/name_f] conjugal visit she’s had with him is worth it and she knows he’s much happier with seeing who he loves, even if some people have criticised her or made assumptions. Her husband’s inmate also has conjugal visits with his own partner and he’s overheard some crazy stories on that within the jail, but [name_f]Kinley[/name_f] isn’t there firsthand and doesn’t quite believe it. [name_f]Kinley[/name_f] has a good bond with [name_f]Eugenie[/name_f] since her son is in Eugenie’s class as well and she’s glad [name_f]Eugenie[/name_f] became a teacher after all. Her son seems so happy whenever he’s in her class because she’s never judged him on his perspective on waiting to see his father again. Hudson’s friend can somewhat relate, being a child to a parent in the military. Both of them understand the wait of a parent coming home even though they’re not sure exactly which day, yet counting the days anyway. In addition, her son is always so happy-go-lucky with [name_f]Eugenie[/name_f] as his teacher, wishing he even had red hair like hers. If [name_f]Kinley[/name_f] had her son in a more ignorant class by a hyper-conservative anti-diverse teacher, she likely would have pulled him into a different school. But thanks to [name_f]Eugenie[/name_f], the school has some goodness within it, which has taught [name_f]Kinley[/name_f] to see the good side in every community much like people would want to see the good side for her.

[name_u]Aspen[/name_u] [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] Carpenter, nee [name_u]Porter[/name_u] (32) is Kinley’s sister and Hudson’s aunt. A cosmetologist and part-time secretary to a plastic surgeon, [name_u]Aspen[/name_u] sort of gets the opposite criticisms of her sister: if Kinley’s ‘reckless’, Aspen’s ‘shallow’, an opinion she first got a heavy dose of when attending her first mother and baby group, something that led to her leaving pretty quickly because of the toxic competitive environment 2 women transformed it into (y’know cause their kids were already destined for [name_u]Noble[/name_u] Prizes at the ripe age of 6 months).
Kinley’s relationship did cause [name_u]Aspen[/name_u] to raise her eyebrows a couple times at first. As the older of the pair, she’s always had a protective streak, and Hudsons’ father had a long wait for her trust to be won - as what [name_u]Aspen[/name_u] hated most was the thought of [name_f]Kinley[/name_f] just being viewed as a convenience or tool to benefit someone undeserving. He’s now been given an early parole date of [name_u]December[/name_u] 18th - if he continues behaving himself - and Aspen’s cautiously optimistic, although part of her can’t quite shrug off all worries, something she confides in her own husband about.
Hudson’s likewise very close to Aspens’ children: her 5 year old son and 2 year old daughter - with no plans for a third currently. The Carpenters’ adore their little family, but know that between their jobs it wouldn’t be fair having another child, even if they always dreamed of having lots of kids (4 is their ideal number, and - as [name_u]Aspen[/name_u] tells her in-laws - they’ve got plenty of time to achieve that dream). There’s also the fact her daughter’s started karate and swimming classes, so ferrying her about would make pregnancy even more impractical.
[name_u]Brooks[/name_u] knows that Hudson’s father is in jail, and recently there was a little problem when [name_u]Brooks[/name_u] overheard his parents talking with [name_f]Kinley[/name_f]. [name_u]Brooks[/name_u] made fun of Hudson’s father in front of him and they got into a big fight. Since then, he and his parents talked and they told him they would stop saying things like that, but he had to too. They apologized to [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] & [name_f]Kinley[/name_f], but haven’t visited since. His parents are very worried the two cousins won’t be friends anymore, and have decided to back down on the competition, seeing how it has ruined the kids’ relationship.
[name_u]Brooks[/name_u] is quiet but has a good group of little friends. From T-ball to school to art-club, there is different group of friends for each. A few of them overlap, but [name_u]Brooks[/name_u], being pretty shy, is very proud of himself for making so many new friends now that he’s in kindergarten. [name_u]Brooks[/name_u] would like another sibling (preferably a boy), but at the moment he’s good with his happy family. He would like a pet…but that doesn’t seem to be happening any time soon.
