[name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] [name_m]Adrian[/name_m] Kahler of Sussex was known for his bright red hair, expressive green eyes, and exuberant personality. The eldest son of [name_m]Count[/name_m] Kahler, the viscount lived a life of luxury and was paired against the [name_m]Marquess[/name_m] of Monaco when they were both mere children to unite the great houses and to attempt to bridge the gaping holes in [name_m]Franco[/name_m]-English relations. The [name_m]Marquess[/name_m], however, had different ideas.
[name_m]Marquess[/name_m] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_m]Harrington[/name_m] of Monaco was widely viewed as a beauty; between the bewitching blue eyes made all the more stunning by the hard contrast of her tumbling black curls and a natural charisma and - well - grace, she was a pearl of both rural and Parisian society. She grew up knowing that she was to be the viiscount’s wife, and though they only met a few times over their lives, she didn’t mind it. The marriage contracts stipulated that the viscount would be at least 27 before they were allowed to marry; she would be 24, at least, on her wedding day. [name_m]Plenty[/name_m] of her friends had it worse.
So instead of worrying about her future, [name_f]Grace[/name_f] dedicated herself to learning. She absorbed everything she could about her country, her intended’s country, the countries that most concerned those two. She mastered dance, she mastered the modern languages - and a few ancient ones - and, despite her father’s objections, learned to navigate [name_f]France[/name_f]'s difficult political sphere.
In it’s due time, however, the Kahler-[name_m]Harrington[/name_m] wedding happened. The groom’s family had [name_m]French[/name_m] connections, so she was married in her home, at least. They would settle in Sussex, of course, but for now, she was on [name_m]French[/name_m] soil and that was what mattered.
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m] was seen as a man of fashion. He was young, he was opinionated, and he moved fast. He was a good natured fellow, but certainly not one anyone would call a ‘family man.’ It was surprisng, then, that he presented his bride with a ring so fitted to her tastes (7). But [name_f]Grace[/name_f] loved her ring. She also loved her dress, but she and her mother designed it themselves, specially for her, so it didn’t really count (3). The wedding came and went with the expected amount of pomp, circumstance, and drama. Ultimately, no one died and the two ended up married, so anything else that may have gone wrong was lost to history.
The couple did, in fact, retire to Sussex. For the first few years of their marriage, they passed it at his home estate, travelling the circles of the English Ton, and preparing to bring children into the world - and then eventually, bringing children into the world. But a few months before their first child was born, [name_f]Grace[/name_f] heard of instability in her home country. The king was weak. The king was dying. He had no legitimate heirs, and there was a desperate scramble to get one of his bastards legitimized, but - well, there was an opportunity, and [name_f]Grace[/name_f] has always kept her ear to the ground, so four months out from giving birth, she convinced her husband to set his sights on a new goal: [name_f]France[/name_f].
It was barely a year after they started the silent campaign - a few weeks into the actual rebellion in [name_u]Paris[/name_u] - when the Kahler Rebellion won and [name_f]France[/name_f] crowned a new king and queen to take over the ancestral palace (7). They had already had their first daughter by the time of the coronation, and settling into their reign prevented their family from growing too much bigger, but as [name_f]France[/name_f] stabalized, [name_f]Grace[/name_f] found herself pregnant once again. Over the course of their reign, the two had five children - all as diverse as their parents, but all as tightly bound together as the bond that made them.
