[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Margaret[/name_f] “ [name_f]Mettie[/name_f] “ [name_f]Renella[/name_f] [Indgren] [name_m]Crane[/name_m] (8 [name_f]September[/name_f] 1927 – 2 [name_f]April[/name_f] 2022, aged 94) was Buffy’s late grandmother and possibly the oldest person [name_m]Cal[/name_m] knew. Heck, she was[name_f][/name_f] alive still in 2021, when [name_f]Buffy[/name_f] and [name_m]Bram[/name_m] were together and she’d be happy to know they’re still together. [name_f]Mettie[/name_f] herself was also an only child like [name_f]Buffy[/name_f], though she had multiple children. [name_f]Buffy[/name_f] is actually the daughter of the youngest [name_m]Crane[/name_m] child! [name_f]Mettie[/name_f] is long retired though she spent her time helping gardening for people who needed it until the age of 85. She actually would never predict as a child that she’d be into that. When she was a child, her family always wanted a big family. Having her was a miracle, but never enough. And she felt bad. But she knew why they wanted one, and it wasn’t so much because it’s a “big family”. The Indgrens had a nice farmland and wanted more kids to help out on the farm “when they were old enough” and by old enough…they mean old enough to walk and carry stuff. So [name_f]Mettie[/name_f] loved her parents but distanced more and more when she lost her childhood innocence and realised she was more of their pawn. In fact, when she started a family with her husband, she was truly starting a family[name_f][/name_f]. Like she actually felt like she had a family and could serve a role properly.
[name_f][/name_f]She’s glad [name_f]Buffy[/name_f] is low-key and respects their she/they pronouns. It’s unsurprising, [name_f]Mettie[/name_f] wants [name_f]Buffy[/name_f] to get their role on their own accord rather than be forced into a role, which would include a gender role. She was a laid-back and kind grandmother, often not talking and instead listening. She’d do anything for anyone if she believed they were true, though she set boundaries. [name_f]Mettie[/name_f] jokes she was not going to change her grandchildren’s diapers when they were babies, claiming, “I did that already with you kids. It’s your turn now.” But she doesn’t say it openly because she doesn’t want to be an embarrassment. She’s met [name_m]Cal[/name_m] on a few occasions mainly due to [name_m]Cal[/name_m] being so young, but loves her and her appreciation for [name_f]Tavi[/name_f]. [name_f]Mettie[/name_f] would have hoped [name_f]Tavi[/name_f] was safe wherever he was, being a believer in the afterlife but also hopeful in life. She credits this to her longevity but also peaceful death. She’s had multiple bouts of the flu but a keen sense of fighting tactic, but also knowledge when she wasn’t going to survive anymore. [name_f]Mettie[/name_f] was proud of everyone in her life, and she’d very easily be the same way about the Scarsdales. [name_m]Cal[/name_m] is a sweet little girl whose life was not easy, though she has freedom and wonderful mother [name_f]Shell[/name_f] that she can give thanks to. [name_f]Mettie[/name_f] didn’t act like everyone else’s lives were better than hers, seeing she never knew what others gone through, but she’d be grateful that [name_m]Cal[/name_m] could just be a kid in her own life thanks to her parents’ protection.
