I’m thinking through whether there is a way to honor my [name_f]MIL[/name_f] with a middle-name place for a girl, but most unfortunately, I dislike both her first and middle names: [name_f]Maureen[/name_f] [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f]. Does anyone have any creative ideas for how to honor her without actually using either [name_f]Maureen[/name_f] or [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f]? Is there a variation or a name that is similar enough to either [name_f]Maureen[/name_f] or [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f] that I could use?
My taste runs generally towards antique revivals (think [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]), names with an ancient Greek or [name_m]Roman[/name_m] sound to them (e.g. [name_f]Olympia[/name_f], [name_f]Juno[/name_f]), or international names with a classic sound (e.g. [name_f]Mireille[/name_f], [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]), but at this point I’m interested in ANY suggestions that can help me honor my [name_f]MIL[/name_f] without having to use names that I completely dislike.
[name_f]Maureen[/name_f]: [name_f]Moira[/name_f], [name_u]Marian[/name_u], [name_u]Marion[/name_u]? Any [name_f]Mary[/name_f] variation really.
[name_f]Yvonne[/name_f]: [name_m]Ive[/name_m] comes from the same name as [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f] ([name_m]Ivo[/name_m]). [name_f]Yvette[/name_f] and Iveta are variants of [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f]. Then there’s [name_f]Yvaine[/name_f]…
[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f], thanks for the suggestions, I’m feeling kind of honored that you responded as I’ve been following your fabulous thread about your own decision for your little one. [name_f]Moira[/name_f] is my favorite of your suggestions, I hadn’t realized it was a [name_f]Mary[/name_f] variation! That could actually work really well. Thank you!
I think [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] had great suggestions.
I was just going to suggest my daughter’s name, [name_f]Maura[/name_f]. We used it because my husband is Irish, as a variation of [name_f]Maureen[/name_f] (or, really it’s the other way around, the -een ending is diminutive). But it’s also listed as Late [name_m]Roman[/name_m] (and also Italian and Spanish) on behindthename.com, as the feminine form of Maurus. I don’t know if it appeals to you at all, I just thought it kind of fit your criteria.
I find [name_f]Maura[/name_f] a bit softer than [name_f]Maureen[/name_f]. [name_f]Moira[/name_f] is pretty. [name_f]Mara[/name_f] is a fave of mine.
I like [name_f]Yvaine[/name_f] but I’m a sucker for the novel Stardust. [name_f]Yvette[/name_f] is pretty. [name_f]Evie[/name_f] is so popular as a nickname I could see Yvie working too. [name_f]Eve[/name_f] itself, for [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f]?
[name_m]Just[/name_m] in terms of Y’s, unrelated otherwise, my single favourite is probably [name_u]Yael[/name_u] (yah-[name_f]ELLE[/name_f]).
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] or [name_u]Ivory[/name_u]
[name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_f]Evie[/name_f], or [name_f]Eva[/name_f]
[name_u]Evan[/name_u]
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]
[name_f]Ivanna[/name_f]
Thanks so much to everyone for your creative and great suggestions! I really do love many of the ones that you have suggested, particularly:
[name_f]Moira[/name_f]
[name_f]Maura[/name_f]
[name_f]May[/name_f] (hadn’t thought of a smoosh! Good one!)
[name_f]Mara[/name_f]
[name_f]Eve[/name_f]
I also like [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], though both are a bit of a stretch in explaining how they honor my mother in law! Still, they’re staying on the list for consideration!
Thanks, nameberries! I knew you would rise to the occasion!
All I can think of is [name_f]Maura[/name_f], [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], [name_f]Maeva[/name_f], [name_u]Vinnie[/name_u], [name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_f]Eva[/name_f].
