Looking for opinions/first impressions of [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Maren[/name_f] for a baby girl.
[name_f]Maren[/name_f] brings to mind our Grandmother’s [name_f]Karen[/name_f] and [name_f]Marie[/name_f] [name_f]Ellen[/name_f]. Pronunciation would be similar to [name_f]Karen[/name_f]; spelling of course, inspired by [name_f]Marie[/name_f] [name_f]Ellen[/name_f].
Our son’s name is inspired by our Grandfather’s on both sides of the family, as well (but not their exact names).
The meanings of both [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] & [name_f]Maren[/name_f], I believe, are tied to the sea. Ironically enough, I gave my mom a hard time for years, having given me a first name with a surname that were both obviously tied to “land.” Thankfully, I ended up growing to love the story and meaning of my name. Somehow, this tie (but with the sea, not land), makes me think of my mom!
The only thing holding me back is sometimes I worry that [name_f]Maren[/name_f] dulls a bit in comparison to [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]?
Thanks for your insight, in advance!
I think it works as a combo.
I wouldn’t say [name_f]Maren[/name_f] dulls so much as it is clearly more tailored than [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]. One name is literary, vintage, and kind of romantic while the other is more modern and tailored and nature-oriented. That is no reason you can’t use them together especially since they are meaningful to you. I think the connection to sea is really nice. A few other ideas along those lines, though not as meaningful:
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_u]Rue[/name_u]–name meaning is similar to [name_f]Marie[/name_f]
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Marine[/name_f]
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]–[name_f]Karen[/name_f] is a form of [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Muirgheal[/name_f]/[name_f]Muriel[/name_f]-also has a meaning related to to the sea and shares sounds with [name_f]Marie[/name_f] [name_f]Ellen[/name_f]
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Marielle[/name_f]
I love how these two work together - especially with the sea meanings and the creative way you’ve honoured both grandmothers!! It’s a lovely choice.
Pps suggestion of [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Marielle[/name_f] is lovely.

I love [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Maren[/name_f]! It really makes you think of a mermaid or just the sea, even if you’re not too familiar with the names’ meanings. I like the suggestion of [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Marine[/name_f], and [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Marielle[/name_f] is pretty too, but I don’t think [name_f]Maren[/name_f] is too plain next to [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]. I mean, sure you could go all out and name her [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Mariposa[/name_f] or someting similar but [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Maren[/name_f] is just as great.
