I’m way too young to have kids, but I’ve been thinking about possible honor names for the future (and for fun too!). I’ve had the name [name_f]Linnea[/name_f] on my mind recently, which is a creative and a subtle honor to my grandmother, as we (and my aunt too) had this role-playing game and her character was called [name_f]Linnea[/name_f].
Other ideas:
- Loviisa (for an important place to my mom)
- some variant of [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], haven’t found a perfect one yet (for another important place to most people in my family)
- [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] (for my aunt, the reason is personal to her so I won’t be explaining it)
- Kreeta / Kreetta (my mom wanted to name me this)
- some variation of [name_f]Mary[/name_f] (a lot of people in my extended family have a [name_f]Mary[/name_f] variant in their names)
- some family member’s initials?
I don’t really have honor names for boys, only a few names which have some meaning to me but not anyone in my family.
There are some family members I’d like to honor in the future but can’t think of a subtle honor. I don’t want to use someone’s exact name (not even middles)
I’d like to get more ideas like this so please suggest!
I always like the idea of using someone’s favourite colour/place/season, or the day/month/season/place they were born, or their birth flower/stone as honours (works especially well if you like word names but it doesn’t have to be! Eg [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] for July)

I agree with what Stephie said! I’ll also suggest maiden names, if that works, or the surname of a meaningful relative.

Maiden names sadly don’t work for me as surnames aren’t really used as first names in the country I live in.
[name_f]My[/name_f] grandmother’s maiden name is actually derived from a given name but that name is very unusable
Thanks for trying to help anyway, I appreciate it!

I love [name_f]Linnea[/name_f] - what a cool way to honour!!
Loviisa:
- [name_f]Ulrika[/name_f] - the town was named after [name_f]Queen[/name_f] [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]Ulrika[/name_f]
- Eija - from Eija’s Garden, in Loviisa
- Maybe too obvious, but a variation of [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] - [name_f]Lula[/name_f], [name_f]Lovis[/name_f], [name_f]Lova[/name_f], Ludovika
[name_f]Katherine[/name_f]:
[name_f]My[/name_f] personal favourite variant is [name_f]Katri[/name_f]
I also love [name_f]Katrin[/name_f] and Kaia/Kaja/Kaya
Oh, and it could come from [name_f]Hecate[/name_f], so there’s that too
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]:
- [name_f]Dawn[/name_f]
- [name_f]Austra[/name_f]
- [name_f]Morning[/name_f]
- [name_f]Eos[/name_f]
- [name_f]Aya[/name_f]
- Zoryana
Kreeta/Kreetta
- [name_f]Greta[/name_f]
- [name_u]Kitty[/name_u]
- Kressida
- [name_f]Keela[/name_f]
- [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f]:
- [name_f]May[/name_f]
- [name_f]Marnie[/name_f]
- [name_u]Marian[/name_u]
- [name_f]Maren[/name_f]
- [name_f]Mollie[/name_f]
- [name_f]Marita[/name_f]
- [name_f]Margarita[/name_f] (could honour Kreeta too?)
- [name_f]Miriam[/name_f]
Some other ideas for subtle/creative honours:
- a name inspired by a special memory you have with that person (ie, for me the name [name_m]Caedmon[/name_m] is related to family holidays as a kid)
- a name inspired/related to something someone loves (their favourite colour, animal or writer; something to do with a hobby/interest)
- their favourite name (that they didn’t get to use)

Thank you, these help a lot!! And I don’t think a variation of [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] would be too obvious, it would actually make it a double honor!
[name_f]Greta[/name_f], [name_f]Katri[/name_f] and [name_u]Marian[/name_u] are probably my favorites aside from [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and variations!
