Cringe Worthy Girl Names

Okay so a name that is a nameberry favorite and is gaining popularity all around me really, but totally makes me cringe everytime I hear it is [name]Amelia[/name]. It just sounds slimy and unattractive to me similar to [name]Olivia[/name], which is another name that makes me cringe regardless so how many cute Olivias I meet.

you guys have horrible taste! 90% of these names are gorgeous!

mine are:
[name]Kayden[/name]

[name]Micah[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name]
[name]Yasmin[/name] (I’ve never liked this but I did know a horrible [name]Yasmin[/name] so that might be why)
[name]Jordan[/name]/[name]Morgan[/name]/[name]Ashley[/name] ect

I just heard and saw this yesterday…it’s the spelling that I found utterly cringe-worthy…Ishshah. Really??? A double sh???

And saw this name on the news recently…Trelynda! Ugh!

Finally, have to add the names [name]Arlo[/name] and [name]Happy[/name]…was reminded of them by other posters…definitely both cringe-worthy in my book (boy or girl)!

I think this one takes the cake…[name]Traylor[/name].

Heard this one this morning…Daisydawn.

Not a double barrel, not a first and middle, one word.

My number one cringe-worthy name is and always has been Katherine/Kathryn/Catharine, but especially with a K. It sounds like catheter. I hate Kathy, I hate Kathleen, I hate Katie, (Kate, for whatever reason, is not as offensive) and I deeply despise Katherine.

Also:
Ariana/Adriana
Arabella
Lauren/Laura (but not Laurel)
Bethany
Cecily
Cameron (on girls)
Hilary
Helen/Ellen
Liliana
Demetria
Ellery
Emery
Brielle
Heather
Megan
Bridget

[name]Beatrix[/name], [name]Zoe[/name], [name]Roxy[/name]:I tend not to like name that have X’s or Z’s in them
[name]Mackenzie[/name]
[name]Michaela[/name]
[name]Susie[/name]
[name]Pansy[/name]
[name]Ryann[/name], [name]Charlie[/name]: really don’t like boys names on girls
[name]Eugenia[/name]

[name]Forever[/name] and always boy’s names on girls. It’s bad enough to see girls given silly substanceless boys’ names like [name]Peyton[/name] and [name]Logan[/name], but Nameberry’s hideous new trend seems to be geezer names on girls (seriously, there’s even a blog post about it). If a parent ever introduces me to their daughter [name]Ezra[/name] or [name]Silas[/name] I will burst out laughing and walk away. Anyone who gives their poor kids these names is not someone I want to know.

I don’t like [name]Imogen[/name] or [name]Harper[/name] AT ALL, I know these are super hot on Nameberry but I just have never liked them at all. I seem to be the only [name]Berry[/name] with a dislike for [name]Imogen[/name] or [name]Harper[/name] :frowning:

Haha wow, harsh. Well I hope people react with more respect to your little [name]Electra[/name], because that is quite a silly name for anyone not in a comic book. No offense, to each their own. I’d still let my kids be friends with your oddly named kids, though. [name]Even[/name] [name]Marlowe[/name] and [name]Sailor[/name] (yikes!). Everyone has their own taste in names, and I can respect that, even when it is difficult not to giggle.

I cringe at the super popular names ([name]Sophia[/name], [name]Isabella[/name], [name]Olivia[/name], [name]Jacob[/name], [name]Henry[/name], [name]Joshua[/name], [name]Michael[/name]), the teen mom kreatyve names ([name]Kinley[/name], Branleigh, McTynzleigh, McKenzee, etc.), the hipster names ([name]Felix[/name], [name]Clementine[/name], [name]Lionel[/name], [name]Georgia[/name], [name]Ignatius[/name], [name]Imogen[/name]), tough man-boy names ([name]Blaze[/name], [name]Rocket[/name], [name]Bear[/name], [name]Fox[/name], [name]Killian[/name], [name]Gunner[/name], [name]Hunter[/name], Rage, Riot, etc.), place names ([name]Alexandria[/name], Kansas, [name]Montana[/name], [name]Dakota[/name], [name]London[/name], [name]Paris[/name], [name]Tennessee[/name], [name]India[/name], [name]China[/name]), leftover 90s names ([name]Kyle[/name], [name]Jessica[/name]), most of the occupational names ([name]Porter[/name], [name]Parker[/name], [name]Chandler[/name] and [name]Fletcher[/name] are especially awful) and a few odds and ends ([name]Camden[/name], [name]Jase[/name]/[name]Jace[/name], [name]Lance[/name]). The name I hate the most is [name]Molly[/name]… ugh. I’m also bothered by people naming their children after celebrities (Cobain, ew) and superheroes ([name]Clark[/name] [name]Kent[/name], [name]Bruce[/name] [name]Wayne[/name], [name]Peter[/name] [name]Parker[/name] are all terrible first/middle combos, and yes, [name]Electra[/name] is an awful name, K or not).

It’s kind of a good thing that some (many?) people choose less-than-great names for their kids though. Who wants the playground to be full of kids all going by your favorite names? I think a sea of McTynzleighs, Isabellas, and Imogens would only make it easier for my future little [name]Bronwen[/name]. Variety is the spice of life

Basically, I hate any name that is too trendy, made up, or only fits an elderly person

[name]Henrietta[/name]
[name]Prudence[/name]
[name]Isabella[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name]
[name]Kinley[/name]
[name]McKinley[/name]
[name]Opal[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name]
[name]Yolanda[/name]
[name]Molly[/name]
[name]Brooke[/name]

I absolutely love it when people on this site respond to name criticism with “You’re so mean! I would never be that mean! Your names are stupid! I’M NOT AS MEAN AS YOU THOUGH STUPID-[name]NAMER[/name]!” stomps foot

Especially on a thread like this, it seems a little odd to throw a tantrum over someone voicing a strong negative opinion about a name. Did you miss the title of this post? Are you lost? You must be lost.

Whoa, let’s not let this get out of hand. I think your choices are silly, you probably think mine are silly, and that’s completely fine. I was just surprised that you said you’d laugh in someone’s face and then refuse to associate with them. Seeing your response now though, I’m guessing you were probably being really sarcastic. And it sounds like I hit a nerve, big time. I apologize for offending you, I just expected thicker skin in a thread of this sort. I suppose I shouldn’t have quoted you. Lesson learned.

I’m…a little confused by this response? My first comment was obviously sarcastic; my response to you called for a thicker skin and a sense of humor given the topic of this thread. [name]Trust[/name] me, no nerves were hit. shrug

[name]India[/name] & [name]Jemima[/name] - same reason.

@obieplayer - I don’t like either of those.

I don’t think threads like this are a good idea. Discussing names you really don’t like, or even hate, sure. But saying things like ‘it disgusts me’ or ‘get over yourself’ I think are very harsh/personal and just add to the whole mommy war mentality.

I do get it, i just think some comments are a little unnecessarily harsh. I totally have heard names that I though ‘really?’, but of course would never say to anyone that chose it.

The ones that I’ve heard used recently that I was really not feeling the love for were:

[name]Cheyenne[/name]
[name]Alexis[/name]
[name]Myla[/name]
[name]Juliet[/name]
[name]Briar[/name]

I also think its interesting how meeting a little baby can occasionally change your view of the name. My cousin named her baby [name]Sloane[/name], which I really thought was awful, but this girl actually wears it with quite the gusto. Its still not something I would pick, but I don’t feel as negatively towards it.
Additionally, [name]Clara[/name] was used by a friend of mine, and I thought it was a bit dated, and odd. All I could think of was batty Aunt [name]Clara[/name] from Bewitched. But now I love the name and would probably consider using it if it wasn’t already ‘taken’.

The ultimate worst are booze names. [name]Bailey[/name], [name]Chardonnay[/name], [name]Jameson[/name], [name]Brandy[/name] or anything similar.

There is a girl in my daughters class called [name]Berkley[/name]. She’s a precious little girl but I can’t help but cringe when her mother calls out “[name]Berky[/name]!” in the play ground.

My brothers sister names her second daughter [name]Clementine[/name]. At first I thought it was ridiculous but I find that it really suits her now.

My daughter went to a summer school and came back and said “I met a [name]Lovely[/name] girl today, mummy.” I said, " whats her name?" “Its [name]Lovely[/name]!” What? Her name was [name]Lovely[/name]? Poor child!

I like [name]Henrietta[/name] and [name]Clementine[/name]!!!
