Criticize My Names

Criticize my names as much as you wish to. Give me every criticism you have. If I have a counter argument, I’ll reply with it and I can explain myself on something you’re curious about or don’t like. You can also mention ones that you love, if you feel so inclined.

I’m just doing this because I’m curious what everyone has to say about the names that I like, and I think it’d be fun.

Girls:
[name_f]Coralie[/name_f] “[name_f]Cora[/name_f]”

[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] “[name_f]Evie[/name_f]” / “[name_u]Angie[/name_u]” / “[name_f]Lina[/name_f]”
[name_u]Harper[/name_u]
[name_f]Charity[/name_f]
[name_f]Mercy[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] “[name_f]Gwen[/name_f]”

[name_f]Jeanette[/name_f] “[name_u]Jean[/name_u]”
[name_f]Johannah[/name_f] “[name_u]Jo[/name_u]”
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] “[name_u]Jo[/name_u]”
[name_f]Maryellen[/name_f] “[name_f]Mari[/name_f]” / “[name_f]Mary[/name_f]”

Rosamonde “[name_f]Rose[/name_f]”
[name_f]Ruth[/name_f]
[name_f]Sadie[/name_f]
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]

Boys:
[name_u]Blaine[/name_u]

[name_m]Isaac[/name_m]
[name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] “[name_u]Zeke[/name_u]”
[name_u]Elliott[/name_u]
[name_u]Ezra[/name_u]
[name_m]Gideon[/name_m]
[name_m]Isaiah[/name_m]
[name_m]Kurtis[/name_m] “[name_m]Kurt[/name_m]”
[name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m] “Jare”
[name_u]Maxwell[/name_u] “[name_u]Max[/name_u]”
[name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] “[name_u]Micah[/name_u]”
[name_m]Solomon[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] “[name_u]Theo[/name_u]”
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m] “[name_u]Toby[/name_u]”
[name_m]Winston[/name_m]
[name_m]Walton[/name_m]
[name_m]Zebulun[/name_m]
[name_u]Zion[/name_u]

Hmm the only ones I question are Addallee (spelling?), [name_f]Jeanette[/name_f] (I prefer just [name_u]Jean[/name_u]) and [name_f]Maryellen[/name_f]. If [name_f]Jeanette[/name_f] and [name_f]Maryellen[/name_f] are honor names then I understand. I don’t think there’s anything really wrong with [name_f]Maryellen[/name_f], just not my style. [name_f]Jeanette[/name_f] feels a bit dated but [name_u]Jean[/name_u] is cute I think.

[name_f]Coralie[/name_f] “[name_f]Cora[/name_f]” – I think [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] is super sweet! [name_f]Cora[/name_f] is always so classy, but I think that [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] is so pretty on its own that it doesn’t really need a nn – it’s not so long that it needs a short form anyway, imho. So, I like both names but prefer them individually myself.

Addallee – Tbh, I think it’s just looks like too much with all the double letters. And I personally don’t really care for how made-up it looks and sounds.

[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] – This is so girly and cute! Gotta be honest, though, not a fan of “[name_u]Tallie[/name_u]” or “[name_u]Allie[/name_u]” as nns. They kind of ruin the whimsical vibe of the full name, and I personally wouldn’t use a nn for this one for that reason.

[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] “[name_f]Maggie[/name_f]” – I personally am not a huge fan of [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f], but I think it’s perfectly fine for other people. It definitely has a pretty imagery and feels like the name of a Southern [name_f]Belle[/name_f]. Also, “[name_f]Maggie[/name_f]” is so cute!

[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] – I love [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]! It’s such a timeless and effortlessly elegant name. The only negative for me is [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_m]Bennet[/name_m], but I think it’s an association worth looking past for such a lovely name.

[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] “[name_f]Evie[/name_f]” – So sweet! [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] is so graceful and beautiful, with as much Southern charm as [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]. Also, I adore nn “[name_f]Evie[/name_f]”!

[name_u]Harper[/name_u] – Not a fan, personally. I know it’s trendy and the TKaM association is a good one, but I just don’t love the sound of it. In fact, I was pretty neutral on it, until I met a woman with a baby called [name_u]Harper[/name_u]. I don’t know why, but irl it sounds just wrong to me for a sweet baby girl. (Could just be me, though. No offense meant to anyone who loves this name or would use it.)

[name_f]Charity[/name_f] – I like this one! It’s very sweet and has a lovely meaning. It’s also pretty uncommon, and I’d love to see it used for girls today!

[name_f]Mercy[/name_f] – It’s okay. I don’t hate it, but the sound is not my favorite, tbh. [name_u]Love[/name_u] the meaning, though!

[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] “[name_f]Gwen[/name_f]” – I love [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]! (Though I prefer the -len spelling myself.) It’s so sophisticated yet sassy.

[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] – I’m pretty meh about [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]. I don’t care for it myself, but I see the appeal and I like it fine for other people.

[name_f]Jeanette[/name_f] “[name_u]Jean[/name_u]” – I actually really like [name_f]Jeanette[/name_f]! Especially with a [name_u]French[/name_u] accent. “[name_u]Jean[/name_u]” feels adorable for a child, while [name_f]Jeanette[/name_f] would be such a classy name for an adult woman. Yes!

[name_f]Johannah[/name_f] “[name_u]Jo[/name_u]” – I don’t love it, honestly. I prefer [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] or [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] myself. But it’s definitely fine! I can’t think of any real reason not to use it if you love it.

[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] “[name_u]Jo[/name_u]” – I do love [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]! And with “[name_u]Jo[/name_u]”, it’s just so literary and charming! I’d love to see this used irl. I know it’s in the Top 100 now, but I have literally never met a [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] of any age, and would particularly love to see parents considering this Victorian classic nowadays.

[name_f]Maryellen[/name_f] “[name_f]Mary[/name_f]” – A little dated, tbh. Feels very '50s-'60s to me. But it’s cute, and I can’t say it wouldn’t wear well.

[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] “[name_f]Rose[/name_f]” – Much like [name_f]Coralie[/name_f], I think [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] is pretty and doesn’t need a nn. [name_f]Rose[/name_f] I adore as a name on its own, and personally love it far more than [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f].

Rosamonde “[name_f]Rose[/name_f]” – As with [name_f]Jeanette[/name_f], I find Rosamonde to be such an elegant, sophisticated name for a woman, with “[name_f]Rose[/name_f]” making it more wearable for a child. Beautiful!

[name_f]Ruth[/name_f] – I really don’t like [name_f]Ruth[/name_f], personally. It rhymes with tooth and uncouth, and it just does not sound appealing to me. However, it is a classic with good associations, plenty of worthy namesakes to be found in history. So I don’t hate it, I guess. (Oddly enough, though, I do think “[name_f]Ruthie[/name_f]” is adorable!)

[name_f]Sadie[/name_f] – Meh, it’s fine. I don’t love it, don’t hate it. The vintage charm is a plus, though!

[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] – [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] is a gorgeous classic and popular for a reason! If popularity doesn’t bother you, then I think it’s great!

[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] – See [name_f]Sadie[/name_f].

I’ll do your boys names in a separate reply.

My idea behind the Addallee spelling is that the name means “second chance”, and there’s two of each letter in the name. And [name_f]Maryellen[/name_f] is an honor name for a [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. [name_f]Jeanette[/name_f] is just one I like, but I would mostly be using it for the nickname [name_u]Jean[/name_u].

Zebulun is a Biblical one that I think is totally cool and handsome. I spell Addallee this way because the name means “second chance” and I think it’s cool that there’s also two of each letter. I don’t really like the [name_f]Adelie[/name_f] and [name_f]Adalie[/name_f] spellings of the name. [name_f]Johannah[/name_f] has an extra H on the end because it’s both an honor name for my mom (whose middle name is [name_u]Jo[/name_u]) and [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], the woman in the Bible. I’ve never read 1984, so I assume from what you say about [name_m]Winston[/name_m] that he isn’t a good character?

Oh, okay. Thank you for the confirmation.

I dislike [name_f]Charity[/name_f] and [name_f]Mercy[/name_f] - they’re too wordy for me. I don’t like the spelling of Rosamonde but it’s a good sounding name, I just think it looks prettier as [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f]. Same with Addallee, tbh it’s just overly complicated - I have a simple name with 2 accepted spellings and no one can get it right. [name_m]Can[/name_m]’t imagine how hard it would be for Addallee.

Nehemiah, [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m], [name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m], and [name_m]Zebulon[/name_m] feel very try-hard to me, [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] and [name_m]Zebulon[/name_m] especially. I prefer [name_m]Kurtis[/name_m] spelled [name_u]Curtis[/name_u]. [name_m]Walton[/name_m] feels like a trendy [name_m]Walter[/name_m] and I’m not sure I’m enjoying that vibe. [name_u]Zion[/name_u] is acceptable but you have to be sure you want yourself and your kid heavily connected to the Zionist movement before picking it.

My favorites from your list are [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_f]Ruth[/name_f], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], and [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] for girls and [name_u]Elliott[/name_u], [name_u]Ezra[/name_u], [name_m]Isaac[/name_m], and [name_u]Maxwell[/name_u] for boys.

Addellee – What is up the the spelling? [name_m]Way[/name_m] too many “unneeded” letters.

Tallulah – I just don’t like the name. I stumble over it every time I try to say it.

Charity – I would worry about teasing. ([name_f]Charity[/name_f] is a charity case/ she needs everyone’s charity) But I do think its a pretty name.

Mercy – bordering on too religious for me

Jeanette – seems middle aged to me. Not old fashioned cool or young child cute.

Johannah – I prefer [name_f]Johanna[/name_f]

Maryellen – an old fashioned name not ready for a comeback. Wasn’t there a [name_f]Maryellen[/name_f] on the TV show [name_u]Dallas[/name_u]?

Rosamonde – I love almost all [name_f]Rose[/name_f] names except this one. [name_m]Just[/name_m] don’t like it.

Blaine – I prefer [name_u]Blake[/name_u] or [name_u]Blaise[/name_u] even but I’m not into [name_u]Blaine[/name_u].

Kurtis – another middle aged name

Nehemiah – gives off biblical, wrath of god vibes

Solomon – almost too biblical …almost

Zebulun – This is the name of every malfunctioning killer robot in every low budget scy-fi movie. [name_m]Just[/name_m] no!

All the other names are wonderful. I especially like [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f], [name_u]Harper[/name_u], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_u]Spencer[/name_u], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m] and [name_u]Maxwell[/name_u].

[name_f]Coralie[/name_f] “[name_f]Cora[/name_f]”: I like [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] (and [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]), but for some reason I’m not big on [name_f]Cora[/name_f], it feels sort of stiff/stuffy to me. I would be more inclined to use [name_f]Corie[/name_f] or [name_f]Lia[/name_f] as nicknames for [name_f]Coralie[/name_f].
Addallee: I like the sound of this one, and I like [name_f]Addie[/name_f] and a lot of names that get there, but it just looks really, really weird to me, I think because it has three different double-letter pairs.
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] “[name_u]Tallie[/name_u]”/“[name_u]Allie[/name_u]”: I am not huge on [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f], but [name_u]Tallie[/name_u] and [name_u]Allie[/name_u] are both cute nicknames.
MagnoliaMaggie”: I like [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], but I prefer it for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. Magnolias are beautiful trees/flowers, but I don’t love the sound of it as a name, personally.
Lydia: pretty and familiar but uncommon! Good choice.
EvangelineEvie” / “Angie” / “Lina”: [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] felt too ornate to me for a while, but it’s really grown on me, in part because of the wide diversity of potential nicknames, including the three you’ve included.
Harper: I like [name_u]Harper[/name_u] but don’t love it.
Charity: Fine, but not my favorite virtue name in terms of sound.
Mercy: I really like this one, actually, it’s cute and graceful.
GwendolynGwen”: A favorite! The full name is so delicate and elegant, while [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] is cute and fun.
Hazel: I like [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]! It’s cute and a little zaniness with the z.
JeanetteJean”: This is a nice name, but it does feel very dated.
JohannahJo”: I like [name_u]Jo[/name_u] and [name_u]Josie[/name_u] a lot! I prefer the spelling [name_f]Johanna[/name_f] or the variant [name_f]Joanna[/name_f], but I’m guessing this spelling indicates a preference for a [name_u]Jo[/name_u]-hannah pronunciation.
JosephineJo”: Also like [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] as a full name for [name_u]Jo[/name_u]. So elegant and lacy.
MaryellenMari” / “Mary”: [name_f]Maryellen[/name_f] feels dated and frumpy to me, I prefer [name_f]Mary[/name_f] as a standalone in this case although I do like many [name_f]Mary[/name_f] double names.
RosalieRose”: I prefer just [name_f]Rose[/name_f] as a given name to most [name_f]Rose[/name_f] variants, but [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] is one of the prettier longer forms.
Rosamonde “Rose”: [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t like Rosamonde/Rosamund at all, it sounds very unattractive to me.
Ruth: [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]! A strong and melodic choice with cute nickname options [name_f]Ruthie[/name_f] and Ru/Rue.
Sadie: Cute but not my favorite, a little too nicknamey for a given name in my taste.
Sophia: I love [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]! Such a graceful classic.
Ruby: Nice name, but prefer the similar [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] on your list.

Boys:
Blaine: Really unattractive sound to me.
Spencer: Cute and fun name for a boy growing into a strong, handsome name for an adult.
Isaac: I love [name_m]Isaac[/name_m], it’s really stunning.
EzekielZeke”: Such a lovely name, with a little edge but also softness
Elliott: [name_u]Love[/name_u], although it’s the spelling [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] that’s on my list
Ezra: pleasant enough but NMS
Gideon: so handsome!
Isaiah: [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] sound and look.
KurtisKurt”: prefer either spelling [name_u]Curtis[/name_u] or [name_m]Kurt[/name_m] as a standalone, [name_m]Kurtis[/name_m] looks off to me.
Jeremiah “Jare”: I definitely prefer [name_m]Jeremy[/name_m] to [name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m], but it’s okay.
MaxwellMax”: I like [name_u]Max[/name_u], but don’t care for any longer forms, I think it stands alone quite well.
NehemiahMicah”: Much prefer [name_u]Micah[/name_u] and it feels like it’s own name rather than a potential nickname for [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m].
Solomon: a great and underused name!
TheodoreTheo”: solid classic and fun nickname
TobiasToby”: lovely name with great flow and cute, bouncy, wearable nickname
Winston: can only think of [name_m]Winston[/name_m] [name_m]Churchill[/name_m] or a cute old man name for a pug dog or something.
Walton: not appealing sound to me.
Zebulun: kind of “weird” but has appeal to me.
Zion: nice sound but I totally would not use a name with such heavy political and religious connotations, including controversy.

I have Addallee spelled this way because it means “second chance” and I think it’s cool that there’s also two of each letter in the name.

Charity does always worry me about teasing, maybe I’d use it as a middle because of that.

Mercy is meant to be pretty religious, as I’m a [name_u]Christian[/name_u], but I understand the concern.

I looked it up and there was a [name_f]Sue[/name_f] [name_f]Ellen[/name_f] on the tv show [name_u]Dallas[/name_u], not a [name_f]Maryellen[/name_f].

Zebulun is also a great man in the Bible that was given much because of his godliness, even as much as having an entire city named after him. But, again, I totally understand the concern.

I also like [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], but I don’t have anything I could call her, as I don’t like [name_f]Corie[/name_f] and have a cousin named [name_f]Leah[/name_f], so [name_f]Lia[/name_f] is out. Same with using those two nicknames for [name_f]Coralie[/name_f].

I have to agree, it does look weird, I totally get it. I just think it’s cool that the letters (two of each) ties in with the meaning (second chance).

I personally don’t like [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], it feels very bland, but thank you.

(Yay! You like [name_f]Mercy[/name_f]!!)

Yes, I prefer the [name_u]Jo[/name_u]-hannah pronunciation, and the [name_f]Johannah[/name_f] spelling (because it honors both my mom’s middle - [name_u]Jo[/name_u] - and [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] in the Bible). I knew a girl named [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] for a while that was incredibly rude, so that completely threw me off of that name forever.

I’ve never been a fan of [name_f]Mary[/name_f] as a stand alone name, but [name_f]Maryellen[/name_f] is an honor for a [name_f]Mary[/name_f].

Kurtis just looks stronger to me, for some reason.

I can’t stand [name_m]Jeremy[/name_m], mostly because I think of a [name_m]Jeremy[/name_m] as a pretentious person, idk why.

I don’t think those are bad associations with [name_m]Winston[/name_m], lol.

I totally get that, but it would be after Mount [name_u]Zion[/name_u], which I think is totally cool.

I’m not good with criticism, so I’ll just give my opinions while staying as polite as I can! That’s probably not what you’re looking for though, sorry!

Coralie “[name_f]Cora[/name_f]” - I like [name_f]Coralie[/name_f]! I think it’s very cute. I personally prefer [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] myself though. [name_f]Cora[/name_f] is so pretty!
Addallee - I do like that all the letters repeat, that’s very cool! I still don’t personally love the name though, I’m sorry. It feels very trendy, and almost trying too hard to be ‘unique.’ I do like nicknames [name_f]Ada[/name_f] and [name_f]Addie[/name_f] though!
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] “[name_u]Tallie[/name_u]/Allie” - I love [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]! It’s so beautiful and fun, I love the way it sounds. I think it’s unexpected too. I really like nn [name_u]Tallie[/name_u] (personally prefer it spelt [name_u]Tally[/name_u]!), but I’m not a fan of [name_u]Allie[/name_u], it feels too dated to me. I also like nicknames [name_f]Lula[/name_f] & [name_f]Lulu[/name_f]!!
[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] “[name_f]Maggie[/name_f]” - I love this name sooo much. It’s stunning, spunky, and warm. [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] is both sweet and strong!
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] - one of my favorites! It’s sweet, spunky, strong, and full of life. Lots of great characters with the name too!
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] “[name_f]Evie[/name_f]/Angie/Lina” - another one of my absolute favorites! [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] is so gorgeous, I’ve loved the name since I was a little kid. I don’t think I can think of a more beautiful name! Also, there’s a song from The [name_f]Princess[/name_f] and the Frog (“Ma [name_f]Belle[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]”), and it’s made me fall even more in love with the name. I like nn [name_f]Evie[/name_f] (also [name_f]Eva[/name_f]!), but I’m not a fan of [name_u]Angie[/name_u] because it also feels dated to me, sorry. [name_f]Lina[/name_f] is okay, just nms.
[name_u]Harper[/name_u] - love [name_u]Harper[/name_u]! So quirky and fun.
[name_f]Charity[/name_f] - sorry, I’m not a fan of [name_f]Charity[/name_f]. I can just imagine all of the teasing that would come along with the name.
[name_f]Mercy[/name_f] - I know a very cute little [name_f]Mercy[/name_f], so I do think it’s an adorable name! A little too religious for my personal tastes though.
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] “[name_f]Gwen[/name_f]” - love [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]! It’s so beautiful and melodic. [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] is sweet!
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] - in my top 3 favorites! I love [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] with all my heart. It’s so sweet, spunky, bright, and warm. Such a perfect name!
[name_f]Jeanette[/name_f] “[name_u]Jean[/name_u]” - I do think [name_f]Jeanette[/name_f] feels dated, but I still do like the name. I like the way it sounds. I’m not a fan of [name_u]Jean[/name_u] though, because it’s just too dated for me. I like nicknames [name_u]Jett[/name_u] and [name_f]Etta[/name_f]/Ettie/Nettie though!
[name_f]Johannah[/name_f] “[name_u]Jo[/name_u]” - [name_f]Johannah[/name_f] is stunning! I do personally prefer the [name_f]Johanna[/name_f] spelling though (I think [name_f]Johanna[/name_f] could still honor a [name_f]Hannah[/name_f])! it just feels more right. [name_u]Jo[/name_u] is sweet and spunky.
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] “[name_u]Jo[/name_u]” - [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is a name I used to dislike, but I’ve been warming up to it lately! It’s pretty. I prefer the nicknames [name_f]Posie[/name_f] & [name_f]Effie[/name_f] myself, but [name_u]Jo[/name_u] is cute too!
[name_f]Maryellen[/name_f] - [name_f]Maryellen[/name_f] feels super dated to me, but I saw it’s an honor name, so that’s okay then! I do think it would make a better middle name though. However, I really do like [name_f]Mari[/name_f]!
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] “[name_f]Rose[/name_f]” - beautiful and literary! I like nn [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] more, but [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is of course a lovely classic.
Rosamonde - another lovely name! I prefer the [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] spelling though.
[name_f]Ruth[/name_f] - simple and sweet! nms, but very cute.
[name_f]Sadie[/name_f] - [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] is so spunky, I really like it. I think it works on all sort of personalities too!
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] - so soft and sweet. I know it’s getting more popular lately, but I never get tired of hearing it! [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] is just the cutest nn too.
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] - my most favorite name in the whole world! It’s the most special name to me, and I love it with my whole heart. It’s beautiful, sweet, spunky, vintage yet current at the same time, uncommon but still familiar. It’s all the good things, I could talk about it forever!!

Blaine - I’ve always liked [name_u]Blaine[/name_u]! It’s so sweet, but also cool. I prefer [name_u]Blake[/name_u], [name_u]Blaise[/name_u], and [name_u]Blair[/name_u] though!
[name_u]Spencer[/name_u] - I like [name_u]Spencer[/name_u]. It may be a tiny bit dated, but I still think it can work. It works for all sorts of personalities too, which I like!
[name_m]Isaac[/name_m] - I love the meaning of [name_m]Isaac[/name_m], also it’s so soft and sweet. I do think it’s a bit overused though.
[name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] “[name_u]Zeke[/name_u]” - such a cool name! I love it.
[name_u]Elliott[/name_u] - another one that’s a tiny bit overused, but there’s a reason why! I personally prefer other ‘[name_f]El[/name_f]-’ names, but [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] is handsome and sweet.
[name_u]Ezra[/name_u] - handsome and zippy!
[name_m]Gideon[/name_m] - I love the sound of [name_m]Gideon[/name_m]!
[name_m]Isaiah[/name_m] - personally not a fan, sorry. I’ve just known so many, so it feels overused and dated to me.
[name_m]Kurtis[/name_m] “[name_m]Kurt[/name_m]” - a classic, strong name. Nms, but I can see the appeal.
[name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m] “Jare” - another one that’s not my personal style, but I do like the sounds! I prefer [name_u]Jem[/name_u] as a nn though.
[name_u]Maxwell[/name_u] - very handsome! [name_u]Max[/name_u] is cute. I like nn [name_m]Wells[/name_m] too.
[name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] “[name_u]Micah[/name_u]” - I don’t like [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m], I’m sorry. I really love [name_u]Micah[/name_u] though! I prefer it on its own.
[name_m]Solomon[/name_m] - handsome, and so strong! Nicknames [name_u]Sol[/name_u] and [name_u]Solo[/name_u] are cute.
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] “[name_u]Theo[/name_u]” - my absolute favorite boy name! It’s so handsome, sweet, and cuddly. I never get tired of hearing it.
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m] “[name_u]Toby[/name_u]” - strong, sweet, literary. I love [name_m]Tobias[/name_m]!
[name_m]Winston[/name_m] - [name_m]Winston[/name_m] is so cuddly and adorable. I think nn [name_u]Winn[/name_u] makes it cool too.
[name_m]Walton[/name_m] - I’m personally not a fan of [name_m]Walton[/name_m], sorry. It just sounds too much like a last name to me. I do like nn [name_m]Walt[/name_m] though!
[name_m]Zebulun[/name_m] - oh, this is so cool! I think any boy would love to be named this. Nn [name_m]Zeb[/name_m] is very edgy as well.
[name_u]Zion[/name_u] - I grew up with a bunch, so it’s lost it’s charm to me. I do like the ‘Z’ beginning though!

Great list! :slightly_smiling_face:

Coralie - I like [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] better than [name_f]Cora[/name_f], but it does somewhat remind me of the word corral
Addallee - I like the sound of this, but the double letters seem a bit much. [name_m]Just[/name_m] curious - do you watch the [name_m]Bates[/name_m] family? One of their daughters is named Addallee spelled this way
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] - I’m not the biggest fan of [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] personally, but [name_u]Tallie[/name_u]/Allie are nicknames I like. [name_u]Tallie[/name_u] is more intuitive to me for [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] than [name_u]Allie[/name_u]
[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] - I’m starting to like [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]. It also has a lot of nicknames
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] - I love [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]. Simple and classic
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] - I like [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] and “[name_f]Evie[/name_f]” would be the nn I would use. [name_u]Angie[/name_u] seems dated and [name_f]Lina[/name_f] works but isn’t my favorite
[name_u]Harper[/name_u] - I like [name_u]Harper[/name_u]
[name_f]Charity[/name_f] - I’m a fan of most virtue names but this one seems too much for me
[name_f]Mercy[/name_f] - This seems more namelike of the two virtues
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] - Personally, I think [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] sounds heavy
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] - I like [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Jeanette[/name_f] - This seems dated to me
[name_f]Johannah[/name_f] - I like this spelling because to me it makes the pronunciation more intuitive as [name_u]Jo[/name_u]-[name_f]Hannah[/name_f]. With [name_f]Johanna[/name_f] I’m always questioning how the person pronounces the H
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - I never liked this but now I do. I also like the nickname [name_u]Josie[/name_u] in addition to [name_u]Jo[/name_u]
[name_f]Maryellen[/name_f] - This seems dated. I would go with just [name_f]Mary[/name_f] or [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Ellen[/name_f] as a first and middle
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] - I like this and I like [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
Rosamonde - I like [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] better. This is a little heavy
[name_f]Ruth[/name_f] - I like [name_f]Ruth[/name_f], especially with the nn [name_f]Ruthie[/name_f]
[name_f]Sadie[/name_f] - [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] is cute
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] - [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] is sooooo popular but it’s popular for a reason. It’s pretty
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] - I like [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]

Blaine - [name_u]Blaine[/name_u] is okay. Reminds me of Glee
[name_u]Spencer[/name_u] - I don’t really feel one way or the other about [name_u]Spencer[/name_u]
[name_m]Isaac[/name_m] - [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] is cute
[name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] - I love this with the nn [name_u]Zeke[/name_u]. I wish more people would use this. It’s so cool
[name_u]Elliott[/name_u] - popular for a reason I like the sound
[name_u]Ezra[/name_u] - I never liked this, but the boy next door has this name and he is so cute it changed my mind
[name_m]Gideon[/name_m] - I can’t decide if I like this or not. I’m not a huge fan of the Gid/Giddy nickname but it’s not bad
[name_m]Isaiah[/name_m] - I love [name_m]Isaiah[/name_m]
[name_m]Kurtis[/name_m] - I understand the K is meant to get the [name_m]Kurt[/name_m] nickname, but I would spell it [name_u]Curtis[/name_u] and still have the nickname [name_m]Kurt[/name_m]
[name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m] - [name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m] is alright. I prefer it to [name_m]Jeremy[/name_m], but it falls in the dated category for me
[name_u]Maxwell[/name_u] - This is handsome and I love [name_u]Max[/name_u]
[name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] - I don’t like [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m]. This is a big name and I don’t get [name_u]Micah[/name_u] as a nickname for it. I do like [name_u]Micah[/name_u] on its own though, or potentially as a nickname for [name_u]Michael[/name_u] if you want a long form
[name_m]Solomon[/name_m] - I’m not on board with [name_m]Solomon[/name_m]. It sounds somewhat dreary to me
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] - I love this name and I think [name_u]Theo[/name_u] is cute. I also love [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] in full
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m] - This is okay. I do like [name_u]Toby[/name_u]
[name_m]Winston[/name_m] - This seems somewhat uppity to me? Or like a butler in a movie. I also know way too many dogs with this name that it’s sort of ruined it
[name_m]Walton[/name_m] - This is interesting. I like [name_m]Walt[/name_m] as a nickname
[name_m]Zebulun[/name_m] - [name_m]Zeb[/name_m] is kind of cool but [name_m]Zebulun[/name_m] seems like a lot
[name_u]Zion[/name_u] - I’ve heard this before. Not my style but it’s okay

I do think [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] is beautiful. But, with the [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] book (and now movie) being made pretty popular, I worry about that association, and I fear she would constantly be mistaken as [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] often since that’s more well known.

(Yay, you like that the letters repeat in Addallee!! I’m accepting that it’s just too much, but I’m happy to see that someone appreciates my idea for it!)

(It makes me so happy to find someone who likes [name_u]Blaine[/name_u]!)

I’ve heard of [name_u]Jem[/name_u] as a nickname for [name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m], but I love the combo [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] [name_u]Jem[/name_u] for a girl, so 1) using [name_u]Jem[/name_u] on a boy just seems odd to me, and 2) I wouldn’t be able to have a [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] [name_u]Jem[/name_u] and [name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m] “[name_u]Jem[/name_u]”. It is a cool idea, though.

Walton, I just want to mention, is an honor for a [name_u]James[/name_u] whose middle name is [name_m]Walton[/name_m]. I just think it’s really cool and different.

(The fact that you’ve known a bunch of [name_u]Zion[/name_u]’s makes me kind of excited!)

Girls:
[name_f]Coralie[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Cora[/name_f]’ - i like this name it’s pretty, but every time I hear it, it does make me think of the film [name_f]Coraline[/name_f]

Addallee - really not a fan of the spelling or the sound. To me it feels like a toddler trying to say and spell [name_f]Natalie[/name_f], also makes me think of the surname and prime minister Attlee

Tallulah - again not a fan of this one although the diminutives [name_u]Allie[/name_u] and lulah redeem it a little. Unfortunately this name was ruined for me by the family who went to court over naming their daughter ‘tallulah-does-the-hula’ and the court deeming this unlawful

Magnolia - I love this, it’s beautiful. [name_u]Love[/name_u] the flowers/tree also I believe [name_f]Mulan[/name_f] is the Chinese for magnolia which is another great connection. I love the feel of the name. I really enjoy names that end in ia. [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] and [name_f]Olia[/name_f] are also great diminutives

Lydia - I’ve always loved the look and sound of [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], the name meaning makes me sad because meanings are important to me and it’s meaning isn’t very special. Also slightly wrecked by [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] from pride and prejudice

Evangeline - love it, but does make me think of nanny McPhee. But so many possibilities with this name and great meaning

Harper - personally not a fan. I don’t like anything about this name. But in general I’m not a fan of surname names for girls. Also with it being the name of harper beckham and being such an unusual name, it’s like taking the name [name_u]Shiloh[/name_u] or dream or north, it feels a little bit weird.

Charity - again really don’t like this one. I feel like there’s lots of possibilities for teasing ‘give to charity’ oh she’s a charity. [name_f]Charity[/name_f] shop. [name_m]Just[/name_m] makes me think of the disadvantaged, Victorian naming trends like naming your child sorrow, that’s what this feels like to me. The [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] connection doesn’t help this either with the muggle Studies teacher charity burbage getting eaten by nagini the snake in the last book

Mercy - so similar to charity but feels a little more ok. I worked with a three year old called mercy and it opened my eyes to the name a bit more. I guess it could be the new [name_f]Grace[/name_f], but still has that out of date Victorian feel to it - in the bad sense, some Victorian names feel classic others out of date.

Gwendolyn - I love [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] but [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] still fits in my out of date Victorian, a little out of date category.
Have you considered [name_f]Gwyneira[/name_f]? This feels much more pretty and modern than [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] to me. Or simply [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] on its own.

Hazel - this is lovely

Jeanette - looks pretty and is so rare these days it’s a great option

Johannah - personally think it’s better without the final h. As a [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] I’m a little biased with this one. Great name

Josephine - lovely, so many options [name_u]Josie[/name_u], [name_u]Jo[/name_u], [name_f]Effie[/name_f], Seph, Fi, fifi

Maryellen - never heard this one before. Not sure what I think. Is it pronounced [name_f]Mary[/name_f]-[name_f]Ellen[/name_f] or marry-ellen? [name_f]Mary[/name_f]-[name_f]Ellen[/name_f] feels a little bit of a mouthful but marry-[name_f]Ellen[/name_f] works a bit better

Rosalie - lovely name

Rosamonde - less a fan of this one, feels out of date and just makes me think of the mistress of [name_m]Henry[/name_m] II of [name_f]England[/name_f]

Ruth - love the meaning ‘companion’ the character of the biblical book and the opportunity to use Ru as a shortening

Sadie - this is nice, and not often used, not my favourite on your list

Sophia - I prefer [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] and this name is sooo overused here in the U.K. that I really don’t like it anymore

Ruby - this is nice but again not my favourite

(Now for the boys)

[name_u]Blaine[/name_u] - don’t like this, just makes me think of Dunblane where there was the [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] school shooting (also where [name_u]Andy[/name_u] [name_u]Murray[/name_u] went to school)

[name_u]Spencer[/name_u] - due to pretty little liars I now see this as a girls’ name and is one of the few surnames I think is ok as a girls’ name. Not so keen on it as a boys name

[name_m]Isaac[/name_m] - love everything about this, the meaning, the sound. So great

[name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] - this feels a little much, zeke feels really geeky. Of the Old Testament names this doesn’t fit as well in current naming trends as other options

[name_u]Elliott[/name_u] - loveee this name

[name_u]Ezra[/name_u] - great name, great meaning, but can’t help but think of pretty little liars

[name_m]Gideon[/name_m] - again not the best of the Old Testament names. I feel like the shortening ‘giddy’ could cause problems although ‘deon’ would work well as a shortening. I feel like this one is very hit and miss, I’ve not met many people who really fitted the name [name_m]Gideon[/name_m]. But one did.

[name_m]Isaiah[/name_m] - love this when pronounced eye-zye-ah rather than eye-zay-ah

[name_m]Kurtis[/name_m] - eww no really dislike this one although [name_m]Kurt[/name_m] on it’s own is ok

[name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m] - this is ok, not my favourite Old Testament one and the shortening Jare would not be what I would first come to. [name_u]Jerry[/name_u], [name_m]Jeremy[/name_m], remi lots of diminutive options. Not sure how I feel about Jare

[name_u]Maxwell[/name_u] - I’ve never been a fan of the max names. Feels like a dog name to me

[name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] - not really sure why you would use [name_u]Micah[/name_u] from this name they are two totally different names. [name_u]Micah[/name_u] is great and preferable to [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m]. Also consider [name_m]Nahum[/name_m] same meaning sounds a bit like [name_m]Nathan[/name_m]. If you’re going for [name_u]Micah[/name_u] just go for [name_u]Micah[/name_u] not [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m]. But [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] is fine in and of itself

[name_m]Solomon[/name_m] - not my favourite of the Old Testament options.

[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] - love this and the options of [name_u]Theo[/name_u] and teddy

Tobias - so lovely when pronounced to-bee-us rather than to-buy-us. Love the former hate the latter

[name_m]Winston[/name_m] - just makes me think of [name_m]Churchill[/name_m] and the dog. I feel like it’s too soon for this to make a comeback

[name_m]Walton[/name_m] - I like this

[name_m]Zebulun[/name_m] - feels a bit much. There are better options on your list

[name_u]Zion[/name_u] - I do like this but the zionist movement in [name_u]Israel[/name_u] is also incredibly controversial and this conveys a particular ideology in [name_u]Israel[/name_u]-Palestine that could make this name complicated

I’ve never thought of [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] and [name_f]Cora[/name_f] being associated with corral. Huh. I guess it’s not a bad association.

I don’t actively watch the [name_m]Bates[/name_m] family, although I do follow them on Instagram. But, I did saw part of the episode where their daughter Addallee was born, and that’s what made me fall in love with it, because I thought how beautiful to name her such a name (with two of each letter, too) after she had nearly died.

(Oh, it makes me happy that you like the [name_f]Johannah[/name_f] spelling!! The first person I’ve ever found! Yay!)

Yes, I’ve heard from a couple people that [name_m]Winston[/name_m] is a dog name to them. I’ve never met or heard of a dog named [name_m]Winston[/name_m], so it’s surprising to me.

Hi there.

I’ll just give you all my thoughts!

Girls:

Coralie ‘[name_f]Cora[/name_f]’-I don’t have a good reason for not liking this that much. I really like [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] & [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]. [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] just sounds too cutesy or something. [name_f]Cora[/name_f] is nice, but a little popular. And I don’t like the nn [name_f]Cori[/name_f] at all. It sounds like a snobby cheerleader.

Addallee-This spelling is just way unpleasant. [name_f]Adelie[/name_f] is cute though! [name_m]Even[/name_m] though I think that ‘[name_m]Ad[/name_m]’ names in general are super over done.

Tallulah ‘[name_u]Tallie[/name_u]/Allie’-I like [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]. I prefer [name_f]Tallula[/name_f] for some reason. It looks sleeker to me. But it’s kind of quirky & fun. [name_u]Tallie[/name_u] is darling. [name_u]Allie[/name_u] is a little 90s. I also like the. nns [name_f]Tula[/name_f], [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] or [name_f]Lula[/name_f].

Magnolia ‘[name_f]Maggie[/name_f]’-[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] is sooo cute. I love saying it & the flower imagery. Nothing wrong w/it, sorry! I don’t love [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] that much. Some days I think it’s nice, & others it sounds silly. I kind of like the nn [name_f]Malley[/name_f].

Lydia-This is fine. It’s just kind of okay. Doesn’t excite me at all, but isn’t awful.

Evangeline ‘[name_f]Evie[/name_f]/Angie/Lina’-I really don’t care for this name. Something about that ‘ange’ sound is unpleasant. And it’s so heavy &…well, evangelistic. I like [name_f]Evie[/name_f], but basically every little girl who isn’t [name_f]Addie[/name_f] is [name_f]Evie[/name_f] these days. [name_f]Lina[/name_f] is fine, but doesn’t make much sense, since it’s not [name_f]Evangelina[/name_f].

Harper-Bleh, this one is not my style. It’s soooo trendy, & doesn’t sound pretty at all in my opinion.

Charity-I don’t care for this. It sounds a little pretentious.

Mercy-Same as above.

Gwendolyn ‘[name_f]Gwen[/name_f]’-It’s strong, bold, sophisticated & beautiful. I can’t say much bad about this one, but I prefer [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] because it looks more polished.

Hazel-This is fine. I don’t love it or hate it. It’s really popular, though.

Jeanette ‘[name_u]Jean[/name_u]’-I can see the appeal of [name_f]Jeanette[/name_f]. It’s kind of cute & unexpected. [name_u]Jean[/name_u] sounds very bland & dated though. I like the nn [name_f]Nettie[/name_f].

Johannah ‘[name_u]Jo[/name_u]’-[name_f]Johannah[/name_f] is okay. Maybe ready for a comeback. Not an awful name. It’s kind of smart & quiet. I just don’t care for [name_u]Jo[/name_u]. It sounds abrupt.

Josephine ‘[name_u]Jo[/name_u]’-[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]! It’s so smart, sassy, classic, strong & elegant. I again don’t care for [name_u]Jo[/name_u] or really [name_u]Josie[/name_u] that much. I like [name_f]Posey[/name_f] though!

Maryellen ‘[name_f]Mari[/name_f]/Mary’-This seems a bit smoosh. [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Ellen[/name_f] as a fn/mn combo is nice enough.

Rosalie ‘[name_f]Rose[/name_f]’-[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] is sweet & cheerful. Classic & just lovable. I like [name_f]Rose[/name_f], but [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is better as a full name to me. [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] nn [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] works.

Rosamonde ‘[name_f]Rose[/name_f]’-This spelling looks off. [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] is better.

Ruth-I love it! It’s so smart, strong yet sweet & down to earth at the same time. It’s vintage & charming.

Sadie-Really sweet. Soft yet spunky at the same time. It has great vintage charm. I like it on its own, but also as a nn for [name_f]Susanna[/name_f].

Sophia-I really need [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] here for some reason. No idea why, but [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] is not nearly as good for some reason. It’s super popular either way.

Ruby-I go back & fourth on this. Some days I think it sounds goofy & lackluster, but some days I think it sounds sassy & glamorous.

Boys:

Blaine-I kind of like it. I prefer [name_u]Blaise[/name_u], but this is interesting.

Spencer-Not into this one. It sounds geeky, but not in a cute way like [name_m]Linus[/name_m] or [name_m]Winston[/name_m].

Isaac-A good solid classic. Not super exciting, but a very name strong name.

Ezekiel ‘[name_u]Zeke[/name_u]’-It’s kind of cool & different. I think [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] is a bit too much though.

Elliott-Charming, handsome, sweet & a little quirky. I really like it.

Ezra-This isn’t bad. I like it okay, just feel like it’s a tad trendy.

Gideon-This one has a nerdy feeling too. I don’t hate it, but it’s not my favorite.

Isaiah-It’s okay. I like [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] & I like [name_m]Josiah[/name_m], but some reason [name_m]Isaiah[/name_m] doesn’t sound as nice.

Kurtis ‘[name_m]Kurt[/name_m]’-[name_u]Curtis[/name_u] looks much nicer in my opinion. Either way, it’s not my cup of tea, but okay. Sounds kind of jerky.

Jeremiah ‘Jare’-[name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m] is really strong, handsome & interesting. I don’t like Jare though. [name_u]Jem[/name_u] is fun as a nn.

Maxwell ‘[name_u]Max[/name_u]’-I love [name_u]Max[/name_u]. It’s so sporty & dashing. [name_u]Maxwell[/name_u] is nice. I kind of like just [name_u]Max[/name_u], I think best.

Nehemiah ‘[name_u]Micah[/name_u]’-I don’t mind [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m]. It’s different. [name_u]Micah[/name_u] is such a name on its own that it seems weird as a nn here. The nn [name_m]Nemo[/name_m] is cute.

Solomon-I really like this one. I mainly love it for the nns [name_u]Sol[/name_u] & [name_m]Solly[/name_m]. They’re sweet old man names, & [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] sounds very strong & masculine w/out being bro-ish or anything.

Theodore ‘[name_u]Theo[/name_u]’-Great name. Handsome, quirky, smart, vintage, friendly & just lovable. It’s getting pretty popular. I also like the nns [name_u]Teddy[/name_u], [name_m]Thatch[/name_m] or Thax.

Tobias ‘[name_u]Toby[/name_u]’-I don’t know why, but I can’t get into [name_m]Tobias[/name_m]. And I just think [name_u]Toby[/name_u] sounds sort of dopey.

Winston-So cute. Totally geeky in the sweetest way!

Walton-This is okay. I think it’s kind of last name-y.

Zebulun-That’s too much.

Zion-Not a fan, but it’s not awful.

I was a little meaner than usual! [name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.

Oh, yes, the “[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] does the hula from [name_u]Hawaii[/name_u]” thing. Ugh. That always makes me cringe so terribly. The meaning of this name is so cool to me, though, so I haven’t given up on it. (And I think it’s beautiful)

I always thought [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] meant “kindred spirit”, but apparently that’s not the meaning understood and backed by everyone. That makes me sad. I loved that it meant “kindred spirit”. I guess, thanks for making me aware for that. I’ve also have never read Pride & Prejudice (because my parents don’t own the book, and I haven’t found it anywhere that I’ve been), so I don’t have the association with [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] from that. Thanks for letting me know.

Gwyneira is pretty, but I’ve just always loved [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]. I’m not sure how I feel about using [name_f]Gwyneira[/name_f], though… it’s one to think about.

(Yay, you like [name_f]Jeanette[/name_f]!!)

Is there a difference between marry-[name_f]Ellen[/name_f] and [name_f]Mary[/name_f]-[name_f]Ellen[/name_f] for you? I pronounce both the same. Regardless, I am just pronouncing it as if it were a double barreled [name_f]Mary[/name_f]-[name_f]Ellen[/name_f], like the two separate names just said next to each other.

I have met a [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] and she’s nice so that makes it a little better. If you love it by all means go for it.

The pride and prejudice [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] association isn’t the worst thing in the world. I find the meaning thing more of a problem :frowning: sadness

If you love [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] go for it.

One of my closest friends wants to have a [name_f]Jeanette[/name_f] and that really changed my opinion of it. I can see why people don’t like it, but I’m a fan of the -Ette -[name_f]Etta[/name_f] names and it is beautiful. [name_f]Janet[/name_f] I would struggle more with.

I’ve just never come across [name_f]Maryellen[/name_f] before here in the U.K. Although it strikes me as something you might hear in the south of the US. I prefer [name_f]Marybeth[/name_f]! But with [name_f]Maryellen[/name_f] I wasn’t sure if it’s literally [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Ellen[/name_f] like with [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Beth[/name_f] or if it was more like [name_f]Marianne[/name_f] like Mariellen where the first half is pronounced ma-ri instead of mair-y
