Hey everyone! Could you please let me know what you think of my favorite boys’ names? Suggestions would be welcome also! If we have a boy, the MN will probably be either [name]James[/name], [name]Leland[/name] or [name]Lee[/name] (family names). Last name is very short and [name]German[/name]-sounding, similar to Krug:
[name]Milo[/name]
[name]Sebastian[/name]
[name]Otto[/name]
[name]Ivor[/name] (also a family name)
[name]Alfred[/name] (possible nn [name]Alfie[/name]?)
[name]Irving[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Leland[/name]
[name]Leo[/name]
[name]Jasper[/name]
[name]Archer[/name] (possible nn [name]Archie[/name]? but I think I like [name]Archer[/name] better with a nn)
[name]Bertram[/name]
Also, can anyone think of names similar to [name]Hugo[/name]? I [name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Hugo[/name], but since it rhymes with our last name, it’s out :(.
I love [name]Otto[/name], [name]Ivor[/name], [name]Alfred[/name] and [name]Bertram[/name].
I dislike [name]Milo[/name] and [name]Archer[/name].
Suggestions for [name]Hugo[/name]:
more H names from my own list?:
[name]Havard[/name], [name]Hector[/name], [name]Haldor[/name].
[name]Milo[/name]- like it
[name]Sebastian[/name]- too popular for my taste
[name]Otto[/name]- eh…
[name]Ivor[/name]- pronounced EE-vor? cool
[name]Alfred[/name]- old-fashioned, but I love the nicknames [name]Al[/name] or [name]Alfie[/name] or even [name]Freddie[/name]
[name]Irving[/name]- don’t like as much as [name]Ivor[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name]- again, a little too popular for me, but I love the nn [name]Ollie[/name]
[name]Leland[/name]- reminds me of a character from Monk, I like it
[name]Leo[/name]- it’s alright
[name]Jasper[/name]- I like a lot how it sounds and that there’s really no nn’s for it
[name]Archer[/name]- cool, I like full name [name]Archer[/name] better than [name]Archie[/name]
[name]Bertram[/name]- a little too clunky for me, [name]Bert[/name] is kinda nice
With a rather guttural last name like ‘Krug,’ I would pick a first name as light, liquid and long as possible for balance. Many of your choices were also a bit Germanic, which can sound harsh.
[name]Sebastian[/name] was pure perfection, as is [name]Oliver[/name]. I adore the beautiful name [name]Ivor[/name] and was curious if you’d consider it in the middle? [name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Ivor[/name] Krug is beautiful.
With a last name that is rather short like ‘Krug’, I think a long first name would definitely work best. A name like [name]Leo[/name] Krug doesn’t quite sound right. But a name like [name]Sebastian[/name] Krug sounds great. And [name]Sebastian[/name] is pretty much an amazing name. That’s my favorite from your list, hands down.
Some of my other favorites from your list would be-- [name]Leland[/name] (and the family connection would make it extra special), [name]Jasper[/name] and [name]Bertram[/name].
The other ones I’m not as fond of–
[name]Otto[/name], [name]Ivor[/name] ([name]Otto[/name] and [name]Ivor[/name] both feel very… um… harsh I guess would be the word, next to the rather guttural last name of Krug),
[name]Alfred[/name] (on it’s own it feels too much like a butler name— [name]Alf[/name] sounds too much like the furry TV alien from the 80s/90s, and [name]Alfie[/name] feels very UK trendy and still reminds me of TV’s [name]Alf[/name]),
[name]Irving[/name] (too last-namey for me),
[name]Leo[/name] (one syllable doesn’t work with your last name- otherwise I’d like this name— how about [name]Lionel[/name] instead?),
[name]Archer[/name] (probably my least favorite from your list).
So I’d go with [name]Sebastian[/name], or find other long names like this that you like, some possibilities:
[name]Phineas[/name] Krug
[name]Donovan[/name] Krug
[name]Emmerich[/name] Krug (I don’t want to erase this, but actually the end sound of [name]Emmerich[/name] would bleed into the first sound of Krug, so if your last name actually starts with the ‘k’ sound, this wouldn’t be a good suggestion)
[name]Thaddeus[/name] Krug
[name]Theodore[/name] Krug
[name]Augustus[/name] Krug
My maiden name was [name]Archer[/name], and it is cool right now but there are some potential slang pit falls associated with it for me. Having had that make for most of [name]KY[/name] lifei personally would avoid it.
Thanks for the [name]Emmerich[/name] suggestion - I really like that name! I will have to add it to the list! However, you’re right that it will blend in with the “K” sound in our LN, so that’s something to think about…
It seems like everyone likes [name]Sebastian[/name] the best, and the more I think about it, the more I love it with our LN. Keep 'em coming, everyone!
ETA: What do you think of [name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Lee[/name] Krug? MY DH’s late grandpa was named [name]Leland[/name] (and he went by [name]Lee[/name]). They were really close, and DH loves the idea of using [name]Leland[/name] for a FN - but I’m not in love with it. I think [name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Lee[/name] sounds nice, no?
[name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Lee[/name] sounds nice but I actually prefer [name]Leland[/name]! [name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Leland[/name] Krug has excellent flow (3-2-1 syllable count) and does an even better job lengthening and softening ‘Krug.’
