so due to the fact that I have a massive hernia that is causing problems for my pregnancy, doc is talking about inducing early, babe may have to come earlier than anticipated. (Fingers crossed that wont happen but… At the very most 6 weeks from now.)
I am starting to really feel the pressure of finding ‘the name.’
However I am not really any closer than I was months ago.
Dh loves [name_f]Delilah[/name_f]. I like it, but popularity keeps me from loving it.
We have seriously considered: [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f], [name_f]Calliope[/name_f], and [name_f]Edie[/name_f] as well. We are now tossing around the name [name_f]Lulah[/name_f]…
I am not really sure why we ever decided against [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f].
[name_f]Calliope[/name_f] gets butchered in our area and we decided it was going to cause her problems but I really do [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] nn [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_f]Edie[/name_f] is my husbands 2nd favorite but something keeps holding me back.
I guess my question is, should we reconsider any of these mentioned? Is [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] really that terrible? We got horrible feedback from family and friends.
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] [name_f]Plum[/name_f] as been one of my favorite combos we have come up with…
I think [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] fits with your eclectic mix! If [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] is too much, what about [name_f]Callista[/name_f]? [name_f]Edwina[/name_f] might work for you since you can get [name_f]Edie[/name_f] or [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] as nns. Some other possibilities: [name_f]Cressida[/name_f], [name_f]Araminta[/name_f], [name_f]Cecily[/name_f], [name_f]Bettina[/name_f], [name_f]Bryony[/name_f], [name_f]Cosima[/name_f], [name_f]Hester[/name_f], [name_u]Vesper[/name_u], [name_f]Thalia[/name_f], [name_f]Pandora[/name_f], [name_u]Artemis[/name_u], [name_f]Thisbe[/name_f], [name_f]Themis[/name_f], [name_f]Lilith[/name_f], [name_f]Judith[/name_f], [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f], [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f], [name_f]Camelia[/name_f], [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], [name_f]Clover[/name_f], [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f], [name_f]Winona[/name_f].
Praying everything goes smoothly for you and baby!! I love [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] [name_f]Plum[/name_f]! That’s so sweet!
[name_f]Calliope[/name_f] isn’t bad but it does remind me of grey’s anatomy and I couldn’t stand that character. For what it’s worth, people can whine all they want but it’s your baby and at the end of the day, they have to accept that it is your choice. It at least has good nicknames: poppy, [name_f]Callie[/name_f], lia, etc.
What is your holdup on [name_f]Edie[/name_f], if I may ask? [name_f]Edie[/name_f] [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] could work.
Thank you for your suggestions @davisellu I am not a fan of any names that ‘get to’ [name_f]Edith[/name_f]. Hubby hates ‘[name_f]Winnie[/name_f]’ as a nn. We thought about [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] but we don’t like the way it pronounced here. People say [name_f]Mary[/name_f]-[name_m]Gold[/name_m] and we say [name_f]Mare[/name_f]-eh-gold I am not a fan of the 1st pronunciation and don’t want to correct people constantly.
@namegirl13 - thank you for your prayers! I am a little freaked out so I will happily take them I guess my hang up with [name_f]Edie[/name_f] is that it looks incomplete to me and I am not a fan of [name_f]Edith[/name_f], [name_f]Edna[/name_f], etc ways to get to [name_f]Edie[/name_f]. Dh wanted her name to be [name_f]Edie[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] and I am also afraid that [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] has become a filler middle name. [name_f]Edie[/name_f] [name_f]Deliah[/name_f] is cute though. Ya [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] on [name_u]Grey[/name_u]'s does drive me a little batty… lol
I like [name_f]Edie[/name_f], but I agree that it does look a little short to be stand-alone.
[name_f]Delilah[/name_f] just makes me think of the temptress in [name_m]Samson[/name_m] & [name_f]Delilah[/name_f].
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Plum[/name_f] for a middle name!
Here are some ideas based on what you like:
[name_f]Calla[/name_f] - [name_f]Calla[/name_f] lilies give this a bit of extra meaning, and it’s the first half of [name_f]Calliope[/name_f]
[name_f]Edeline[/name_f] - to give a longer form to [name_f]Edie[/name_f]
[name_f]Lulie[/name_f] - another form of [name_f]Lulah[/name_f]
[name_f]Orla[/name_f]/[name_f]Aurla[/name_f] - this is Irish and it means “golden princess”
[name_f]Lotus[/name_f] - nature-inspired, yet not at all common
[name_f]Caia[/name_f] - this means “to rejoice” in Latin
[name_f]Cerys[/name_f] - means “love”, pronounced “care-iss”
[name_f]Kalila[/name_f]/[name_f]Kelila[/name_f]/[name_f]Kahlila[/name_f] - This, to me, ties in the mellifluous sounds of [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] and [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f], without sharing the popularity of either. It has a lovely meaning, too, “beloved”, and there would be little to no pronunciation issues there.
[name_f]Cyra[/name_f] - this has several pronunciation options: “SEER-a”, “[name_m]CY[/name_m]-ra”, or “[name_m]KY[/name_m]-ra” - it means “sun”
hope this helps!
EDIT: I should mention that Calla means “beautiful” in Greek!
[name_f]Calla[/name_f] sounds like ‘[name_f]Callie[/name_f]’ to me, which is the only thing I have against [name_f]Calliope[/name_f], I sort of loathe [name_f]Callie[/name_f]…
[name_f]Lulie[/name_f], I think I still prefer [name_f]Lulah[/name_f], though I am not sold on either.
[name_f]Lotus[/name_f] is too much of a car for me.
[name_f]Caia[/name_f] is very pretty. I am not sure it is right for us though. I do like it though, I am going to mull it over.
[name_f]Cerys[/name_f], we have a cousin [name_f]Karis[/name_f] so that one is out.
[name_f]Kalila[/name_f], though it looks straight forward, like [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] it would get butchered here.
I like the meaning of [name_f]Cyra[/name_f] but not the sound of it.
Thanks for taking the time to offer up suggestions! They are much appreciated!
I think mabye I am just too picky and need to go with whatever dh wants and I will grow to love it.
I would definitely go with [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] [name_f]Plum[/name_f] or [name_f]Delilah[/name_f], they fit so perfectly with your set, they’re absolutely beautiful.
Would you consider Calanthe/Calantha or Amaranthe/Amarantha? A teacher of mine had a niece named Calantha, and she wore it rather well here in Canada.
@lawsonhaley - They seem a little mouthy for my liking I really loved the name [name_u]River[/name_u] and thought it fit in great with our other names but dh is not a fan for a boy or a girl and ‘not happening ever for a girl’ he says.
I liked [name_m]Forest[/name_m] for a girl too and same response.
I really like nature names.
I do too!! We used to be friends before we moved away from home with a guy named [name_m]Forest[/name_m] so that is the ONLY reason my husband is against it. I keep trying to get him on board but it is not happening
I love [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] [name_f]Plum[/name_f] or [name_f]Delilah[/name_f]. Both sound great with [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f]. [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] you get the nn lulah that you like. There is something special about [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] [name_f]Plum[/name_f] it just sounds so sweet. I have never met a [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] so I don’t think it’s very popular.
I really think I am going to let hubby pick at this point. I feel like I have heard every name ever and I just for some reason cannot find one that I say ‘That’s it.’
I have this image in my head and it seems like nothing measures up. A rosey cheeked girl walking through a deep green of forest. That is what I think of when I picture this soon to be daughter.
I have looked for names of forest animals, trees, flowers, etc but nothing has just clicked for me and I am thinking it just isn’t going to happen and I need to settle and move on.
[name_f]Fern[/name_f]. [name_f]Fern[/name_f] was the first name to come to mind as soon as a read that description, and only then did I realise that you already had it on your vetoed list. That’s sad, because [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f] & [name_f]Fern[/name_f] make such a gorgeous sister-duo (and works well with her three brothers names too). Were it not vetoed, my vote for you would go to [name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f], which I think if just lovely! I also think [name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] would make for a lovely combo - would [name_f]Fern[/name_f] be back in the running if paired with favourite [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] perhaps?
I love [name_f]Fern[/name_f] but hubby does not like it at all, and we had a close friend tell us she decided on [name_f]Fern[/name_f] for her daugther who is due shortly before ours so now it really won’t work for us.
I told dh I reallly liked nature names and he said ‘I do not too, just not [name_m]Forest[/name_m] or [name_u]River[/name_u].’
I feel like one of us is going to have to end up caving to the other at this point.
Maybe you can keep [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] as a nickname if you love it. Is [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lulah[/name_f] an option?
(feel free to ignore these suggestions; they are just fun to make and I understand if you want to take a break from namehunting!)
[name_f]Emerald[/name_f]/[name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] comes to mind. Lush and heavy and full and a little tinged with mystery.
[name_f]Morwenna[/name_f] seems rich and fairytale-esque.
[name_f]Ilana[/name_f] means “oak tree” in Hebrew
Evora also means “tree” and has a whimsical feel
[name_f]Fenna[/name_f] is Dutch/Frisian for “peace”
[name_f]Loma[/name_f] (short for [name_f]Paloma[/name_f])
[name_f]Ondine[/name_f]/[name_f]Ondina[/name_f] (Spanish version) means “little wave”
[name_f]Ixora[/name_f] might be stretch but it sounds very mythological to me
[name_f]Nerida[/name_f]/[name_f]Nerissa[/name_f] means “sea nymph; mermaid” in Greek
[name_f]Calantha[/name_f] means “lovely flower”
[name_f]Elodia[/name_f] is a lush variant of [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilias[/name_f]/[name_f]Lileas[/name_f] makes me think of bunches of lilies in a pond
[name_f]Raizel[/name_f] is a bit exotic, but it means “rose”
[name_f]Iola[/name_f] means “violet”
[name_f]Iona[/name_f]
[name_f]Melora[/name_f] means “golden apple”
[name_f]Viera[/name_f] means “truth”
[name_f]Noemie[/name_f]
[name_f]Jessamine[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilac[/name_f]
[name_f]Ardith[/name_f] - makes me think of a princess in a storybook
I think my favorite from your list is [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] or [name_f]Lulah[/name_f]. I’m usually not a fan of [name_f]Plum[/name_f], but [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] [name_f]Plum[/name_f] is adorable. [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] and [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] are both nice options as well, but I like the spunk [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] has. I’m not a fan of [name_f]Edie[/name_f]. It feels insubstantial to me, especially next to [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f].
My vote is for [name_f]Delilah[/name_f]! I think it ages well through adulthood and won’t be butchered in pronounciation and spelling. It’s popular with berries, but I’ve never actually met a [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] in real life.
[name_f]Delilah[/name_f] is actually ranked quite high in my state and making me like it less and less. My mother also has a strong opposition to it due to the parable. I didn’t think it was a big deal but apparently she would be greatly offended.
Ya, I think I need to just step way away for a bit clear my head of names and start from scratch.
I greatly appreciate your input/help/advice etc. <3
