When I was naming Lilia I was in a completely different headspace I think I wanted to think of sunnier European clime I suppose escapism and somewhere fancier then what life was providing me at the time.
I’m now more settled, loving life in my sleepy English cottage filled with old furniture, sentimental art work and trinkets. Taking walks in the countryside, taking Lilia to church and taking her to lunch at the family pub. I just feel my life is very cottagecore esque well I aspire to this aesthetic!!
But I feel her name isn’t (would love it to be considered that style) so I was just wondering what aesthetic would class Lilia as?
Your description feels lovely and peaceful… my dream is to have a little cottage in the countryside so this really made me feel warm and happy!
Lily, to me, is one of the ultimate cottagecore names. Lilac is one of the ultimate cottagecore plants. All these remind me of your daughter’s beautiful name Lilia, which feels very English (maybe because all the Lilias I know have been English?). All that ontop of your daughter’s charmingly-vintage middle names, her name is very cottagecore to me - matches your vibe perfectly!
@smileymiley ahhh thank you so much! Honestly I think because I was a complete mess when I was pregnant I just feel I wasn’t truly myself when naming her so her name doesn’t reflect ‘me’ and our life! But reading your response has made me smile and feel assured so thank you. Also if I can get a countryside cottage you can definitely do it!
It’s funny, because your description of your life now is more how I think of [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] - sure, it’s got brightness and zippyness to it, but countryside walks, family pubs and cottages with old furniture are all part of my image of [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]. It gives me flowery dresses, sunny days in the garden, but also rainy days, putting on wellies and grabbing a cute umbrella to get out anyway, colourful paintings, crafting, collections of small things etc.
So [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] can feel very cottagecore to me
[name_f]Lilia[/name_f] definitely has some cottagecore elements, but to me she’s a little more… bright! Cottagecore can be quite subdued and cozy, which to me [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] isn’t. But she IS bouncy and cheerful, sweet and flowery, like a bright spring day with blue skies and hills with colourful flowers, the smell of fresh fruit, countryside bike rides and swimming in lakes!
[name_f]My[/name_f] one association with [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is the Ukrainian gymnast, [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] Podkopayeva. I watched her at the 1996 Olympics and loved her name! So I think of a Slavic athlete when I hear [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]. :). It’s such a pretty name, sophisticated and sweet at the same time.
I picture it on your daughter as a girl who is blooming with life and joy, seeing the beauty in simple things but perhaps having dreams of the wider world as well.
@Greyblue thank you for always answering my questions! I also really appreciate your response as I feel when I was naming her it was a hugely difficult time in my life which all the berries helped me so I think her name reflected my want to ‘run away’ go somewhere warmer and happier! So I’m grateful that you think [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is reflective of my current new life thank you
@tallemaja thank you for answering I completely agree cottagecore can be a little more subdued it has a cosier autumnal edge which I love and [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is more summery. Maybe as [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is cottagecore in the summertime?!
@Chococat thank you for your response the gymnast was part of the appeal for [name_u]Joseph[/name_u] (Lilia’s dad) as he loves gymnastics! Honestly you summed up my [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] despite only being 2.5 years old (she’s 3 in February) she’s already so curious about the world and can’t wait to go on a plane!
I’m so happy things are going well for you right now! Sounds like you have a really sweet cottage,
Taking walks in the countryside, guessing it is mostly mud right now!
But this is the names vibes Lilia gives me! She makes me think of a little girl dressed in neutral brown and beige colours runny around. My sister is Lilia so I guess that has a role to play, but she does make me think of an English countryside cottage. Full of memories and good times!
Lilia just feels very cottage core to me! Even if it isn’t, it is still such a lovely name it doesn’t matter!
@melia22 that’s so interesting to hear from someone who has a sister named [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]! Does she encounter any issues with her name? [name_f]Do[/name_f] people often mispronounce her name? Does she like her name?
Thank you for your well wishes it’s lovely to feel settled and at peace it’s really happy feeling! Oh my gosh [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] loves the mud so much we went to the farm the other day it was a complete mud bath we were both covered.
I love the imagery you get from [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] my [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] loves the colour yellow so it’s very bright colours she wants to run around in but your right she loves running around playing at the farm which in a nutshell is cottagecore feels 🪿☔️
The only issue she had with her name, was that my [name_f]Indian[/name_f] grandmother didn’t like it for a while. But she eventually realised, she just well is a [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]! Sometimes it get mispronounced, but not often I think they sometimes mistake it for [name_f]Lila[/name_f] though! I didn’t know, but she says yes. She likes it because her best friend from school says it makes her sound like a [name_f]Princess[/name_f]. She’s only 5 though, so we’ll see. 🫶🏻🫶🏻
@melia22 thank you so much for further feedback! [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] dad’s family were also unsure on her name as well but come to realise she is [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] like your sister [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] has got [name_f]Lila[/name_f] amongst other different names! Her name gets butchered a lot but that’s so cute about her best friend
