Curious about pronunciation

I’m in the US and most people I know pronounce the name [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] like ee-LANE, long E sound at the beginning. I tend to pronounce it closer to uh-LANE or eh-LANE.

So what about you? How do you pronounce this name and where are you from?

I’m in the US and usually pronounce [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] uh-LANE but ocassionally say ee-LANE.

It depends on my mood. If I’m feeling fancy, I’d go all the way with ee-LAINE.

I’m in the UK and I’ve always pronounced it eh-lane.

Definitely uh-[name_u]Lane[/name_u] for me. I’m in the Midwest.

I’m in the US and I say Eh-lane

In Midwest but parents are European immigrants. I say “eh-laine”.

I appreciate all the feedback! I never really thought about there being multiple ways to pronounce [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] until just today. haha I am glad my favored pronunciations are used, though, and in the US. Won’t be so weird if we choose to use the name and use a slightly different pronunciation from those around us.

I say eh-layn, actually. I don’t really like it pronounced with a stressed long-E at the beginning. :woman_shrugging:t3:

I’m in the US & I’d say uh-LANE.

In my head I pronounce it ee-[name_u]Lane[/name_u]. But when I say it out loud I say uh-[name_u]Lane[/name_u].

eh-LANE.
I’m from the US. But I hear ee-[name_u]Lane[/name_u] a lot too

I’m from the UK and I pronounce it eh-lane. I know 2 people with this name and they both pronounce it that way too

I do the same thing! I always read it ee-[name_u]Lane[/name_u], but it comes out either uh-[name_u]Lane[/name_u] or eh-[name_u]Lane[/name_u].

I say uh-LANE or eh-LANE (I’m in the US!)

Sort of like halfway between ee-LANE and eh-LANE. ih-LANE, maybe?

I appreciate the feedback. I had never considered there being multiple ways to pronounce this name before and wanted to make sure I wasn’t crazy in thinking there were. lol
