[name]Hi[/name]!
My husband and I are going to start TTC in the next few months. I’m just putting my current list of girls favourite out there for your opinion.
I would like 1 first name & 2 middles. Our last name is very similar to [name]Flemming[/name].
As you can see I have a thing for names ending in ie. So I’d like to have one in first/middle place.
Also – if you have any other names to suggest I’d really appreciate it. We like antique/ vintage and bohemian type names.
[name]Abra[/name] (Girl in [name]East[/name] of [name]Eden[/name] book & 50’s film)
Avorie (The o and ie do it for me. Wouldn’t use for a first name as I feel it would date. [name]Don[/name]’t like [name]Avery[/name] though. Haha weird I know.)
[name]Blythe[/name] (Although my husband seems to pronounce it Blyfe – we both really like it. Hoepfully he’ll pick it up)
[name]Catherine[/name] (Plucked from my family tree. A classic)
[name]Clementine[/name] (Family tree)
[name]Clover[/name]
[name]Dovie[/name] (used in Victorian times – I adore it)
[name]Edith[/name] (Family tree)
[name]Edie[/name]
[name]Fay[/name] (My Mum’s middle. I also like Old English spelling Faie. [name]Faye[/name] is nice too)
[name]Leontine[/name]
[name]Leonie[/name] (My Grandma’s name)
[name]Lola[/name] (DH & I really like it – but maybe a bit popular in our state – at #56 and rising)
[name]Lottie[/name] (Our maternal Grandmother’s names combined)
[name]Luna[/name]
[name]Mimosa[/name] (My husbands fav. I know the meaning (cocktail, flower, yellow, name of a star) and the implications have been discussed on a previous board. But he’d love it as a middle.)
Ottilie (Otto is a family name)
[name]Pearl[/name] (DH& I both really like)
[name]Persia[/name]
[name]Temperance[/name] (Family tree)
I think [name]Mimosa[/name] would be great as a middle! I’m not a fan of [name]Abra[/name] since it’s the name of a pokemon: and I can just see all sorts of teasing with abra kadabra…
I absolutely love [name]Luna[/name]! [name]Pearl[/name] would be my second pick. I like [name]Lottie[/name] too, but I think of it as more of nickname.
[name]Blythe[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this, though on my lists it tends to show up as a middle.
[name]Catherine[/name] - This doesn’t date. Its also one of the less popular variants. I love it.
[name]Dovie[/name] - I really like this, am thinking of using just [name]Dove[/name] as a middle. Its sort of a family name for me. Its a little bold for a first but not terribly so.
[name]Fay[/name] - I like the family connection.
[name]Leontine[/name] - I would use this as the full name and [name]Leonie[/name] for short.
[name]Lola[/name] - Too popular for me.
[name]Lottie[/name] - Cute. But almost too cute if you know what I mean.
[name]Luna[/name] - Nice, though maybe too brave for me.
[name]Mimosa[/name] - Nice as a middle.
[name]Ottilie[/name] - [name]Ottavia[/name] would be prettier?
[name]Temperance[/name] - [name]One[/name] of the more interesting virtue names, but not the easiest to wear.
Others:
[name]Abra[/name]: I instinctively want to add -ham
Avorie: [name]Just[/name] looks like [name]Avery[/name] misspelled to me
[name]Clover[/name]: A little horsy to me, but usable as a middle name
[name]Leontine[/name]: I vastly prefer [name]Leonie[/name]
[name]Luna[/name]: I want to love this, but I also want to say “loony” or “lunatic” - best as a middle name
[name]Mimosa[/name]: [name]Love[/name] it only as a middle name
[name]Persia[/name]: I’m not into the ancient-civilizations-as-first-names thing
Here are some combo ideas:
[name]Blythe[/name] [name]Clementine[/name] [name]Luna[/name]
[name]Dovie[/name] [name]Ottilie[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Temperance[/name] [name]Lottie[/name] [name]Fay[/name]
[name]Edie[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] [name]Mimosa[/name]
[name]Leonie[/name] [name]Edith[/name] [name]Clover[/name]
[name]Clementine[/name] [name]Lola[/name] [name]Edith[/name]
[name]Abra[/name]- I do kind of think along the lines of ‘kadabra’ and then onto [name]Pagan[/name], halloweeny associations.
Avorie- Really not a fan. Looks a little made up. [name]Do[/name] you like Meredie? [name]Coralie[/name]? [name]Adelie[/name]?
[name]Blythe[/name]- Very pretty. Strikes that perfect chord of recognizable but rare
[name]Catherine[/name]- I like [name]Catherine[/name], but some of your other choices are so much more exciting. It would be a perfect mellow middle name though, especially if it has personal significance.
[name]Clementine[/name]- Like this a lot. Very trendy, but in reality also pretty rare. More ‘celebrity trendy’ than real trendy, I suspect. Warm, yellow associations.
[name]Clover[/name]- So pretty. But I don’t think I’d wanna be a 40 year old [name]Clover[/name]; just a thought. [name]Lovely[/name] as a middle name- could even be used as a nickname/name whilst she was little. Alternatively, [name]Clover[/name] with a professional middle name, or a more ‘blend in’ nickname?
[name]Dovie[/name]- Would so love to say ‘use this’ but I think it’d be hard to pull off in school. [name]Dove[/name] could be pulled off, however, with [name]Dovie[/name] as a nickname. I do so love [name]Dovie[/name] (also a Victorian/Georgian name lover)
[name]Edith[/name]- Beautiful. Vintage, soft sounding, but with the sparky [name]Edie[/name] as an option too
[name]Edie[/name]- See above
[name]Fay[/name]- I prefer the [name]Faye[/name] spelling, but both names are lovely. [name]Fay[/name] and [name]Blythe[/name] would make lovely sisters. [name]Both[/name] understated, dusty lovelies
[name]Leontine[/name]- Not a fan at all. I just don’t see the two halves of the name as flowing together. [name]Leon[/name]. [name]Tine[/name]. This could well just be me! Haha
[name]Leonie[/name]- Have never liked this one either. [name]Love[/name] [name]Leon[/name] and [name]Leo[/name], but the feminizations don’t do it for me
[name]Lola[/name]- Sweet but not a stunner
[name]Lottie[/name]- [name]Love[/name] this. I’m in the UK so I know a few adult Lotties and hey, it works!
[name]Luna[/name]- [name]One[/name] of my favourites. Beautiful meaning. Beautiful lilting sound.
[name]Mimosa[/name]- Fun in the middle spot, but maybe a little frilly and without depth for a first. If that makes sense
[name]Ottilie[/name]- Gorgeous
[name]Pearl[/name]- Pretty. In the same style pool as [name]Blythe[/name] and [name]Faye[/name], for me.
[name]Persia[/name]- Nice but I don’t like country names much. [name]Little[/name] tacky? [name]Even[/name] if it isn’t a current country, granted…
[name]Temperance[/name]- [name]Lovely[/name] sound and feel. Slightly offputting meaning
[name]Blythe[/name]- I’d love to meet a little [name]Blythe[/name]. Simple but full of charm
[name]Clementine[/name]- I do like this. HOWEVER there’s a bit of a [name]Clementine[/name] fad at the moment and I have a sneaky feeling it will become dated
[name]Faye[/name]- Like this choice, but a little plainer than some of my other favourites
[name]Ottilie[/name]- This is my daughters’ name, so clearly this is my favourite choice. We call her [name]Lottie[/name], by the way. I think it’s graceful, timeless but also fun and a bit different. It hasn’t got old yet, and she’s 7
[name]Pearl[/name]- I’ve just been reading The [name]Scarlet[/name] Letter with the most exquisite little [name]Pearl[/name] in it, so I’m even more a fan of this name at the moment. Gorgeous.
[name]Abra[/name]- are you pronouncing this “[name]AB[/name]-ruh”? I prefer [name]Aubra[/name] “AW-bruh”
Avorie- changing the spelling won’t change the sound. Her name is still “[name]Avery[/name]”
[name]Blythe[/name]- love it
[name]Catherine[/name]- classic, but too common for my taste
[name]Clementine[/name]- like it
[name]Clover[/name]- love it
[name]Dovie[/name]- don’t live, maybe just [name]Dove[/name]
[name]Edith[/name]- it’s nice
[name]Edie[/name]- nn only
[name]Fay[/name]- it’s OK, don’t like Faie
[name]Leontine[/name]- don’t like
[name]Leonie[/name]- lovely
[name]Lola[/name]- nn only
[name]Lottie[/name]- nn only
[name]Luna[/name]- it’s OK
[name]Mimosa[/name]- I guess if it’s a mn, but it’s all booze to me
[name]Ottilie[/name]- it’s OK
[name]Pearl[/name]- lovely
[name]Persia[/name]- pretty
[name]Temperance[/name]- it’s OK
My faves: [name]Blythe[/name], [name]Clover[/name], [name]Leonie[/name], [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Abra[/name] - pretty, a bit Abracadabra, but if that doesn’t bother you it’s a lovely name
Avorie - I actually don’t mind this, especially in the mn spot
[name]Blythe[/name] - i don’t really like the meaning, it gives me the impression of carelessness/recklessness
[name]Catherine[/name] - definitely a classic, very different from the rest of your list
[name]Clementine[/name] - cool, I love it.
[name]Clover[/name] - gorgeous
[name]Dovie[/name] - fun, not sure I’d use it as a first as it sounds like a pet name, but it’s pretty
[name]Edith[/name]/[name]Edie[/name] - meh
[name]Fay[/name] - beautiful, I love all the spellings
[name]Leontine[/name]/[name]Leonie[/name] - I prefer [name]Leonie[/name]
[name]Lola[/name] - meh, all I think of it is song…
[name]Lottie[/name] - as a middle it could work
[name]Luna[/name] - pretty, though gaining in popularity
[name]Mimosa[/name] - meh, I know a girl named [name]Margarita[/name] and she’s grown to like it. I don’t hate it.
[name]Ottilie[/name] - don’t like it
[name]Pearl[/name] - meh, I like a lot of the others on your list much better, but it is pretty, maybe as a middle
[name]Persia[/name] - lovely, I like it.
[name]Temperance[/name] - not bad
Thank you all very much for your feedback! I see some patterns with the most popular favourites commented on. [name]Blythe[/name] gets a lot of love! @sugarfoot [name]Glad[/name] you like [name]Dovie[/name]. I pronounce it [name]Dove[/name]-E like the bird but just with an ‘E’ on the end. @harrietsmummy [name]Love[/name] your description of yellowy connotations for [name]Clementine[/name]. That’s how I see it @nat108 I pronounce [name]Abra[/name] “[name]Ab[/name]-ruh”. @namespy It is so heart warming to know there is a young [name]Ottilie[/name] out there. [name]How[/name] adorable. And that the name hasn’t got old for you over the years is important. [name]Lottie[/name] is a cute nickname for it I never thought of. I see what you mean about the trend of [name]Clementine[/name] at the moment – so it may date.
Really lovely to see there is some positivity out there for my DH’s favourite, [name]Mimosa[/name]. It’s taken me nearly 2 years but I like it now. ” MN only.

Thanks for your feedback [name]Athena[/name]!
I only like [name]Catherine[/name] in that spelling for some reason. I find it so pretty and would be a safe middle paired with a more out there fn.
Oh I nearly forgot about [name]Clem[/name] from [name]Clementine[/name]. For that reason I’d want to put it in the middle spot. I know a guy from a band in the 70’s and his nickname was [name]Clem[/name]. Ew haha.
