Currently stumped on character names

Heyoooo. [name_m]Hi[/name_m]. So I’m in the planning process of this one YA book idea I have, about a series of events that occur in the life of this one girl. It’s set in suburban [name_u]Sydney[/name_u], Australia, and the girl goes to a Catholic private school. I’m a little stumped on some character names, so could you guys maybe please help me a bit, and give some feedback on the names I already have downpat? Thank you

Extra information
Genre of story: contemporary YA fiction
Time period/location: modern day (2015), Australia

(DISCLAIMER: some possible trigger warnings related to suicide? Ish?? ??? I just wanna be safe here)

  1. [name_u]Jude[/name_u] ([name_f]Judy[/name_f]): named [name_f]Judy[/name_f] but nicknamed [name_u]Jude[/name_u]; the main character, and the point of view throughout the whole novel. She’s really negative, blunt, honest, and maybe a bit controversial. The novel takes place late in her year 10 (grade 10) year so she’s 16. She’s lesbian but she doesn’t think much of it. Basically, the beginning of the novel finds her at the beginning of her last term of the school year, and a week after her best friend [name_m]Jeremy[/name_m] tried to kill himself (and was therefore sent to rehab (I am not sure about this and will have to do some research. Either way, he’s absent for the entire novel, and [name_u]Jude[/name_u]'s left blaming herself for not noticing the signs.)) She has short cropped blonde hair (think [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] [name_m]Hart[/name_m]). She came out to the whole school grade in the previous year and some other students are still getting used to it. She can be VERY rude at times but it’s a flaw she’s working on. I like her name as [name_u]Jude[/name_u] but does anyone have any other suggestions?

  2. [name_f]Hester[/name_f]: the girl that includes [name_u]Jude[/name_u] into her friend group after everyone at school hears about [name_m]Jeremy[/name_m]'s suicide attempt (and therefore [name_u]Jude[/name_u]'s left alone at school). [name_f]Hester[/name_f]'s sweet, kind, persevering, and determined. She has honey blonde hair that’s always curled into a high ponytail. She cares for everyone and is ALMOST portrayed as a pushover, but doesn’t like to be treated as one.

  3. [name_m]Jeremy[/name_m]: he doesn’t actually appear in the novel but [name_u]Jude[/name_u] always mentions and has flashbacks of their “good times”. He’s usually bright and positive and bubbly, almost the complete opposite of [name_u]Jude[/name_u]. He has standard brown hair and brown eyes. [name_u]Jude[/name_u] is taller than him by a little bit. Very easy going. When [name_u]Jude[/name_u] was coming out to the grade, he stood up for her when she faced homophobia. (One time during that period, he punched a kid in the face.)

  4. [name_f]Marie[/name_f]/[name_f]Stella[/name_f]/[name_f]Estelle[/name_f]/[name_f]Alicia[/name_f]/???: I don’t have any idea on what to call this character but EEK. She’s the new girl in school in whom [name_u]Jude[/name_u] pretty much falls in love with. Shoulder-length medium brown hair, half white, half Japanese. She’s sweet and smart and kind of spunky. She likes [name_u]Jude[/name_u] back (she is bi). She can be a little misunderstanding sometimes, and that’s a flaw of hers that she’s working on. Name suggestions please?? Thanks!!

  5. [name_m]Ethan[/name_m]/[name_u]Noah[/name_u]/[name_m]Abel[/name_m]/[name_m]Caleb[/name_m]/???: another character in whom I don’t know what to name (help?). Basically, the boy [name_u]Jude[/name_u] comes to befriend during the duration of the novel. So: before [name_u]Jude[/name_u]'s coming out week (a year before the events of this novel), [name_u]Jude[/name_u] was part of a secret queer club on campus, and they all made a pact to come out at the same time. [name_u]Jude[/name_u] broke this pact and the whole group was mad at her. One of the members was [name_m]Ethan[/name_m]/[name_u]Noah[/name_u]/[name_m]Abel[/name_m]/[name_m]Caleb[/name_m]/idk, who identifies as demisexual. He wasn’t really mad at her for breaking the pact, but peer pressure, ya know? Kind of a plain guy. Funny. Help on name?

So EEEK yeah… Lol it’s such a big description but could I please get some help on name opinions/suggestions? Thank you!

For [name_f]Marie[/name_f]/[name_f]Stella[/name_f]/[name_f]Estelle[/name_f]/[name_f]Alicia[/name_f]: I like [name_f]Stella[/name_f] out of the ones you’ve listed.
But some other names that come to mind are:
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_u]Cassidy[/name_u]
[name_f]Lila[/name_f]
[name_f]Willa[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]

For [name_m]Ethan[/name_m]/[name_u]Noah[/name_u]/[name_m]Abel[/name_m]/[name_m]Caleb[/name_m]: I like [name_m]Ethan[/name_m] the most out of your choices but some others could be
[name_m]Elijah[/name_m]
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m]
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]
[name_m]Adam[/name_m]
[name_m]Jonah[/name_m]

I like [name_f]Hester[/name_f] and [name_m]Jeremy[/name_m] but I think [name_f]Judy[/name_f] is a little out of place as a name in 2015 - [name_u]Jude[/name_u] by itself for a girl name would fit better with the time, in my opinion.

  1. [name_u]Jude[/name_u] by itself it’s very nice name. [name_f]Judy[/name_f] nn [name_u]Jude[/name_u] is also good. [name_u]June[/name_u]?
Though, [name_u]Jude[/name_u] is my final choice.

  2. [name_f]Hester[/name_f]: [name_f]Ester[/name_f] or [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] ([name_f]Harriet[/name_f])? I am not a big fan of [name_f]Hester[/name_f] (personal opinion)…

  3. [name_m]Jeremy[/name_m]: like!

  4. Since the girl is half white, half Japanese; I thought about something like [name_f]Mai[/name_f]/[name_f]Mae[/name_f], [name_f]Hana[/name_f], [name_u]Dai[/name_u], [name_u]Mika[/name_u], [name_u]Rai[/name_u], [name_f]Miki[/name_f] or [name_u]Yuki[/name_u]. However, between your suggestions, I would choose [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] for your character.

  5. [name_u]Noah[/name_u], adorable name. [name_m]Austin[/name_m]?

  1. I personally like this name the way you have it.

  2. [name_f]Esther[/name_f] wouldn’t be a bad alternative for this character. Maybe [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] or [name_f]Lenore[/name_f] (or another spelling of it)

  3. I really like [name_m]Jeremy[/name_m] for this character.

  4. I love the name [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] for this character.

  5. [name_m]Adam[/name_m], [name_u]Nick[/name_u], [name_u]Jordan[/name_u], [name_m]Jared[/name_m], [name_u]Reid[/name_u]

^ Thank you all so much for your help!

[name_u]Jude[/name_u]/[name_f]Judy[/name_f] will stay as she is, and so will [name_f]Hester[/name_f]- I like those names too much to part from them. I’ve also decided that [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] will be the other character’s name. I also really like [name_f]Stella[/name_f] though, so I’ll make it so that sometimes people get her name wrong and think her name is [name_f]Stella[/name_f], but it’s really [name_f]Estelle[/name_f].

I’m really glad that all of you like [name_m]Jeremy[/name_m]! I like his name, too.

As for that last character, I’m torn between [name_u]Nick[/name_u], [name_u]Noah[/name_u], [name_m]Ethan[/name_m], and [name_m]Austin[/name_m]. EEK.

@ lu_brasil: I like your name suggestions for [name_f]Estelle[/name_f]! But out of all the half Asians/half Caucasians that I know, none of them have names from their [name_f]Asian[/name_f] sides. All of them (including myself. I am a halfie) have very western names, you could say. The halfies I know have names like [name_f]Adelle[/name_f], [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_m]Patrick[/name_m], [name_f]Amber[/name_f], etc.
But thank you for your suggestions anyways!
