Cute or crazy?

I like unusual names and have been brainstorming on a third girl name lately. Is Egret cute or totally crazy?

Hm, I’m a big fan of word names, and bird names are gaining momentum a la [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f], [name_u]Dove[/name_u], etc. However, I think Egret might stick out just a little too much at the moment. Personally, I don’t find the sound very appealing, though I will give it credit because it has a similar sound to names like [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and [name_f]Greta[/name_f]. Okay, I’m switching gears, but I think Egret could work as a name. Nevertheless, I think with your girls, it would make more sense as a quirky middle. [name_f]Do[/name_f] egrets have special meaning to you? They’re beautiful birds, but I think if you use it as a name, a backstory would give it substance.

It’s cute but I like the spelling Ygritte better. Yeah I know it’s from game of thrones, but that spelling seems more like a name than a bird, ya know?

With the prominent, harsh EGG sound as well as the fact that it’s one letter of REGRET, I can’t say I’m keen on the name at all. I’m all for unusual nature names for the most part, but no, not sold on this one I’m afraid.

It’s ok, and sounds more like a real name than, say, [name_u]Finch[/name_u] or [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f], BUT I think the nn/tease “Eggy” would be inevitable.

I dont really like the Eg part either.

It’s super cute. I feel like saying that it is too trendy and fad-ish, but in today where people name baby’s pretty much anything, I think it is pretty, sweet, and innocent.

It’s pronounced ee-gret in the US, not egg-gret here in US so I didn’t think of that.

I guess it kind of reminds me of the name [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f], which I absolutely love but find slightly too traditional.

I actually like it!

I’m going to have to go with crazy on this one.

I think [name_f]Zadie[/name_f], [name_f]Lula[/name_f], and [name_f]Moon[/name_f] would be a cute set. [name_f]Moon[/name_f] has a nature-y feel (like Egret) and it’s spunky too!

I really LIKE the sound of the name, but I think I’d spell it Igrette or just Igret so people wouldn’t immediately think of the bird.

I think Egret would be a wonderful name, for a boy. IDK why, but the name seems all boy to me and I couldn’t imagine it on a girl.

Actually, I originally thought it was spelled Igret. Does anyone know of any history of using Igret or Igrette as a name?

I have to say, I think it’s a little too much. There are lots of bird names that could be used as baby names without going with Egret. [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f], [name_u]Jay[/name_u], …

[name_f]Suzi[/name_f]

I think Signet is better. You also get the amazing nn [name_m]Ziggy[/name_m] from it.

I don’t like it. I don’t think it’s crazy (I rarely thing even the most unusual names are) but it reminds me so much of [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] which I find to be quite dusty and old. With that being said I see you said you like [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] and how similar the names are.

I’m coming back, change of thought. Like others have said I like (more) Igret.

I immediately thought of “regret” as well. If you want a quirky bird name, I would go with something like [name_u]Wren[/name_u] [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f].

I like it. It brings to mind an edgy nickname for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. I can see it working but it’s not something I’d personally want to be named.

The bird came to mind immediately and then Margaret. I didn’t notice it being one letter off from ‘regret’ until seeing other’s responses. I’m not so much a fan anymore.

Not a fan of this.
