Cute or trashy?

So I’ve always been interested in the character [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_u]March[/name_u] from [name_m]Little[/name_m] Women, recently I’ve been considering variations on [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] as I just don’t like the feel of it.

[name_f]Josefina[/name_f] is a biblical option but just not quite there for me and I don’t consider myself a biblical namer.

What about Josophia? You could call her [name_u]Jo[/name_u] or [name_u]Josie[/name_u], or [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] or [name_f]Sophia[/name_f].

So what are your thoughts? A great way to honor the [name_m]Little[/name_m] Women character with a modern twist? Or a trashing a perfectly good solid traditional name?

That’s a bit trashy sounding to me
not as bad as naming your kid Heavynleigh but…getting there
Sounds like a bratz doll name
Sorry

NO! Please don’t ‘trendisize’ a classic name! sob

[name_m]Just[/name_m] sounds like a portmanteau between [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] and [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. I don’t like it, sorry.

I’m not seeing it, sorry. Would you like [name_f]Josepha[/name_f]?

Yeah, I think it’s trashier than it is cute.

No. Please no.

Maybe [name_f]Josette[/name_f]?

[name_m]Just[/name_m] saying, how about the name [name_u]March[/name_u]?

It’s weird for me, sorry.

I don’t like it. [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is a beautiful, classic name and I don’t think that it should be messed with.

I don’t think it’s trashy… I’m just not a fan and don’t see a reason to adulterate such a classic name. I guess you can put me in the “please no” camp.

Nope, not liking that smush. I’d MUCH, MUCH rather see [name_u]Jo[/name_u] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], first and middle, if you really like how it sounds.

[name_f]Josepha[/name_f] and [name_f]Josette[/name_f] are good ideas. There’s also [name_f]Joanna[/name_f], [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f], and [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] (not my style, but I do love the [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] [name_m]Parton[/name_m] song). Or, [name_f]Giuseppina[/name_f] is the Italian version, if you want to go that route.

That’s what I thought. Pushing trashy, but thanks for confirming.

just very very ugly.

I’m fond of [name_f]Joelle[/name_f], though it’s more a feminization of [name_m]Joel[/name_m] than of [name_m]Joseph[/name_m]. (Still works, I think)

[name_f]Josefa[/name_f]/[name_f]Josepha[/name_f] is nice.

I like [name_f]Johannah[/name_f] pronounced like [name_u]Jo[/name_u]+[name_f]Hannah[/name_f] rather than with a Y sound up front or with a silent H, but I know it bugs some Berries. Josophia sounds more aggressively smushed to me for some reason.

If someone told me their daughter was named Josophia, and they said it fast, I’d think they were saying [name_f]Josephina[/name_f]. Seeing it written, it’s hard to tell if it’s [name_u]Jo[/name_u]-SO-fee-a or [name_u]Jo[/name_u]-So-[name_u]FEE[/name_u]-a.

[name_u]Jo[/name_u] [name_u]March[/name_u] is a great namesake! If [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] isn’t your speed, look up girl names that start with [name_u]Jo[/name_u]. Maybe something will speak to you! Josine, [name_f]Joscelyn[/name_f], [name_f]Josette[/name_f], [name_f]Joseline[/name_f] and [name_f]Johannah[/name_f] all come to mind but there are many more. Several of my [name_m]French[/name_m] ancestors were named [name_f]Josephe[/name_f] / Josephte, but it’s not my favorite!

Yeah I’m not a fan of Josophia when there are so many lovely [name_u]Jo[/name_u] names already - [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Josette[/name_f], [name_f]Josepha[/name_f], [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] etc.

If you must use it, I prefer Josephia. Though you may have an issue with people pronouncing it jo-SEF-ee-uh.

[name_f]Josette[/name_f] is a better option.

[name_m]Don[/name_m]'t do it…
