[name_m]How[/name_m] would you pronounce the name [name_m]Cyril[/name_m]? Is it usable, or too weird?

See-ruhl
sih-ruhl
sigh-rhil

see-rihl
sih-rihl
sigh-rihl

Other…?

Thanks for your feedback!

I would say sir-rihl or sih-rihl describes it as well. IMHO, I don’t think it’s ready for a comeback yet as it reads old man to me although I may be the only one that thinks that.

I would say SEE-ruhl/SEE-rihl, as in [name_m]Cyril[/name_m] Chauquet. I like it, mostly due to that association, I think  I don’t think of it as old man-ish, it reminds me of [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m]/[name_m]Silas[/name_m]

I think [name_m]Cyril[/name_m] is totally usable! One of my closest friends is [name_m]Cyril[/name_m] [name_m]John[/name_m].

I pronounce his name as sih-ruhl but that may just be my accent.

Somewhere between sih-ruhl and sih-rihl. It’s too subtle to distinguish.

I definitely think it’s useable though. [name_m]Cyril[/name_m] has that vintage charm that [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] and [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] have.

sih-ruhl or sih-rihl

[name_m]Cyril[/name_m] is charming. It would be an unusual choice but not too weird I don’t think. Where I live at least it wouldn’t be that heard of. I pronounce it seer-ihl

I say Sih-ruhl. I first heard it as a child on a ‘Five Children and It’ audio tape, so it has some really good memories for me. I did always think of squirrel, but I think that’s more cute than anything. I think it’s an underused, but very great option, that’s definitely usable!

I say Seer-ihl just because alternate spellings of Ceril and [name_m]Ciril[/name_m] that I have seen makes me think that is how it’s pronounced. I prefer [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] or [name_m]Cyprus[/name_m] but then they give off a totally different sound if you agree with that pronunciation.

I pronounce it sih-ruhl.

Thanks everyone! I’m trying to gauge how much the different pronunciations would bother me. I didn’t expect some of the variations on the way people pronounce my daughter’s name.
