[name_m]Hi[/name_m],
I am only a couple of weeks away from D [name_u]Day[/name_u] and I still don’t have a name for my newest little man. I am seriously starting to panic. We like classic names that are uncommon that still sound fresh (and not too out there). He has a 3 year old brother named [name_m]Hugh[/name_m].
Current short list is -
[name_u]Arthur[/name_u]
[name_m]Lewis[/name_m]
[name_m]Alec[/name_m]
Could I get some opinions on these and some other options?
I love that [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] means bear and that it’s a classic but feels cool because of the Arthurian legends- my favorite of the three
[name_m]Lewis[/name_m] is also fantastic and I waaay prefer this spelling to [name_m]Louis[/name_m]. It makes me think of authors and royalty and feels strong and sturdy. It’s well known but not as populat as [name_u]Arthur[/name_u], and I personally prefer less comon names so that the kid doens’t grow up being one of 7 Aidens for example
[name_m]Alec[/name_m] another great choice, feels a little more modern and sleek compared to the other two. I also like the [name_u]Alek[/name_u] spelling. This one is getting less and less popular so it might feel dated in a few years?
Other names you might like:
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m]
[name_m]Lucas[/name_m]
[name_m]Peter[/name_m]
[name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_u]Henry[/name_u] (a solid classic, always sounds great imo)
[name_m]Thomas[/name_m]
[name_m]Alaric[/name_m]
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m]
[name_u]Gabriel[/name_u]
All great names and all work well with brother [name_m]Hugh[/name_m].
[name_f]My[/name_f] preference is in reverse order:
[name_u]Alex[/name_u]
[name_m]Lewis[/name_m]
[name_u]Arthur[/name_u]
I have long loved [name_m]Alec[/name_m] on it’s own and not just a nn for [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]. So cool and smart! [name_u]Perfect[/name_u] with [name_m]Hugh[/name_m].
[name_u]Arthur[/name_u] is rugged, classic and charming
[name_m]Lewis[/name_m] is sharp and strong
[name_m]Alec[/name_m] is sweet and cool and my favourite with Hugh!!
[name_m]Rufus[/name_m], [name_u]Jasper[/name_u], [name_m]Tobias[/name_m], [name_m]Conrad[/name_m], [name_m]Ross[/name_m] and [name_u]Ray[/name_u] came to mind
i do also love lewis but with brother hugh it reminds me too much of the 80s rock band huey lewis and the news (which may not be a bad association as they wrote the featured song for back to the future which is one of my favourite films!) and its an association you should be aware of before choosing!
although alec and hugh both have 4 letters and pair nicely as brothers, they have two very different styles for me (which might not be something you mind)

[name_u]Arthur[/name_u]- love but very popular these days.
[name_m]Lewis[/name_m]- a classic. It’s never going to feel outdated but I wouldn’t describe it as fresh either.
[name_m]Alec[/name_m]- seems to fit your bill perfectly. A fresh alternative to the more common [name_u]Alex[/name_u], a classic and well known enough not to cause any other issues.
Arthur-Arthur is adorable. It’s friendly & vintage & smart w/just a teeny bit of quirkiness. It feels like a nice fit w/Hugh. It’s not terribly popular, but rising the charts a tad.
Lewis-I like [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] a lot. It has a lot of the same qualities of [name_u]Arthur[/name_u]. The only problem is the it’s a bit rhyme-y w/Hugh. You have the potential of [name_m]Hughie[/name_m] & [name_m]Lewie[/name_m].
Alec-I love [name_m]Alec[/name_m]. It may be my favorite of the three. It’s smart & friendly like [name_u]Arthur[/name_u], but feels less used. Someone on these boards had mentioned [name_m]Alistair[/name_m] nn [name_m]Alec[/name_m], & I loved the idea even more than just [name_m]Alec[/name_m].
